I think vmk has gone down ( taking about the people)

today i was walking around and the only think that was being type was bad mouth. People calling other people female dogs, and telling them to shut up, an telling the poor guest they are losers because they don't know something about vmk. I can't stand the whole are you taken thing, either. Is anyone else feel the same way or is it just me?

I have definitely noticed quality differences regarding people on Virtual Magic Kingdom. Some members have said some unwarranted things towards other members. My initial thought would be these are younger members that are lacking parental supervision while playing this great game. If these are older members then some individuals have much growing up to do. Earlier tonight I noticed some unwarranted words being communicated to another member, and I immediately said "Please Stop Or I Will Report You Immediately!". Surprisingly, The member immediately apologized to the other member and left the room. Unfortunately, There are thousands if not hundreds of thousands vmk members and your bound to run across some bad seeds. The VMK Staff definitely have their hands full regarding this inappropriate activity...Being in the technology field myself I definitely understand how hard this could be to monitor. I am pretty sure that there are communication logs, logon/logoff times, backup tapes, etc that could easily be parsed for these communications. This parsing becomes a much harder task than most people think. The company I work for receives more than 3 million email messages on a daily basis...Just think about how much communication occurs through out Virtual Magic Kingdom on a daily basis...It is no small number. If you lived near a large city you could associate this to the number of police officers to civilians. There are not enough police officers to patrol millions of people, so sometimes it takes some good civilians to be involved. Virtual Magic Kingdom has many similarities because sometimes other vmk members have to be involved to make the game enjoyable for all. Sorry for the long post, but I tried to associate this from many different angles...

I know what you mean about people getting over the top with the put downs and rude language. I have been in many rooms where there have been many cat fights and near brawls with "up yours", "eat me", and so on....it worries me that these kids are getting on here acting like this. It just seems that the these kids are ruining the game for younger kids and making themselves appear like little brats to us.

oh my goodness, time to share my story!

OK, now, I've seen the bad stuff, like being called a loser and so on. Doesn't bother me because 1) it's a video game and 2) it's a video game

However, yesterday evening, I was playing and none of my friends were on so I go to main street to sit in my bench. so I get there and teleport into my spot. The spot next to me was empty. a person walked up to me, and here's the dialogue:

guest######: Move

me: excuse me?

guest######: You're in my chair, now move

me: oh i'm sorry, but I was here first.

guest######: I don't care.. move

me: there is an empty spot next to me, please sit if you want

guest######: no way. i'm not a ###

me: well i'm sorry but I was here first.

guest######: i'm going the shoot you

me: lol

guest######: what is funny? I will do it!

me: so, you're going to shoot me, in a video game?

me: I did not know frontierland let the guns (guns came out ###) leave the park

guest######: move. now.

me: well, if you were nice to start, I would have moved.

me: but since you were not nice, I will not move : )

guest######: please..

me: sorry, too late!

me: I am going afk for a few hours ; )

a few hours later I return and he is gone from vmk

the lesson here? Try to squash the bad people with niceness and humor

lol! I always said that killing them with kindness works everytime (thus has been my experience from working in retail -- lol) Good for you for taking a stand, and not being bullied.

Strangely enough, I haven't run into any rude people! Guess I mainly am either playing games or hanging out with people from the dis. Don't have any problems with Dis people. I do let my 8 year old play, and never was concerned before (since the vocabulary is so limited), but now am having second thoughts due to all the reports of rudeness and meanness going around. Jeez.

It all depends on where you go. I find meanies only when I'm in public places (and usually not when hanging out with the Central Plaza folk, as we fill the entire instance) or when one of my friends rooms gets quite high on the popular list.

When it happens though, I start talking like a Kindergarten teacher to them... "That's nice, but how do you think that makes (insert name here) feel"
"Can you express yourself in another way?"
"Can you use nice words?"
etc., etc.

It either freaks them out and makes them leave, or the stop seeing the error of their ways. Either way it's a big ego boost!

Wow, that must be so humiliating to them, in such a nice way. I think I like that better than my usual "Guest, play nice please" which sounds too authoritarian. Your way is nicer, and yet, doesn't even give them the satisfaction of feeling like they got a rise out of me.

I have noticed this has been increasing too. (or at least it seems like it) Today for the first time I used the "report" button. There was this girl in pirates that was just being evil. It didn't bother me when she was upset at me (for telling her to be nice when she was saying "move more ons!"), I just didn't egg her on. But then I saw her three more times within about 30 minutes and each time she was being terribly mean to everyone around her. Though I had to give her kudos for creativity with the dictionary. Nothing vulgar, just volatile and vicious. (I so did not mean to be that alliterative, sorry). Her creativity showed me that she was old enough to know better though.

Ah yes the piers, where you are forever stuck if the person in front doesn't move and you don't know how to navigate the game. This new meathod of returning people to the lobby seems to be causing a lot of people to develope a kind of road rage, I picture them at home screaming at their monitor. LOL
I'm guessing some people stand in the front and don't move on purpose.

It is on the increase. I have encountered this problem almost everynight. It may not be directed at me, usually a newbie being bullied. If we all speak up in polite but direct terms, this can get under control. I usually start with, "We are all guest here, please stop that." Each time the character has backed down; mostly try to make it sound like a joke and moved on.

This has GOT to be the funniest conversation I have come across as yet.

I, of course, was breaking Rule # 2 of forum reading (NEVER EAT OR DRINK IN FRONT OF YOUR COMPUTER WHILE READING!) and ended up with sweet tea in my keys.

Laughter. The best medicine.

Anyhoo, I've come across so much ugly that I just laugh when they do it anymore. They say "ur ugly" I say "thank you! I worked a lot to look this way!"

They usually go insane.

I have had a guest following me for three days (since yavn gave me a double of a pin I already had...btw, this guest isn't on my friends list) and asking for the pin over and over, ad nauseum.

The last things he has called me were a beach... an as face (ROFL!) and said something like 'up yours'

My my, what kids won't do with ammo.

And to think, no one's realized you can say fork in VMK. *lets you think on what you can use that for...*

I have never had anyone insult me or be mean to me like that. I have had hundreds of kids try and trade with me, but I stopped doing that a while ago. There was this one girl who kept asking to trade, and I kept ignoring her, and she was following me in the spot where I was. Wherever I went in Snow White's forest, she'd go too. And she wanted my magic pin. Like I was going to give that up that easy.

I have a low tolerance for rudeness in VMK. Especially when someone goes after one of the good people of Central Plaza. My solution has been to stand right next to them and talk hard to them. No red words, nothing particularly vituperative, but I don't think I give them a lot of options. And most of the "mean" ones are, well, not as intelligent as they think. Easy targets, folks. Most of them cannot figure out how to engage in a shouting match, because they get flustered and misspell and red words come up and they suddenly lose their steam and walk out of the room in a silent huff. Beautiful stuff. Anyway, mean people continue to suck. Just a fact of life. Doesn't mean we have to let them be vacuous on VMK.
