We are flying in for do it all vacation and didn't want to rent a car for our whole time so after reading through many posts have come up with this plan. Anyone see any problems or have a better suggestion?

July 29 Fly in take cab from MCO to Doubletree Orlando (staying 2 nights).

Cab to Loews on site. (one night)

Aug 1 rent car and drive to Indian Harbour for 4 day weekend at the beach.

Aug 4 drive back, check in to CR and return car. Figure we can get some groceries into CR before returning the car.

We are using Disney transport back to MCO.

I haven't decided if I should rent the car at a Universal location or Disney location as I will have to cab or shuttle when I either pick up or drop off in either case. Could I take Mears shuttle one way back to Disney?

Leaning towards Universal as less gas? But wonder if it would be more of a hassle?

If you rent from Alamo or National, you can return the car on-site - at either the car care center or the Dolphin Resort. From the car care centr, you can take advantage of a complimentary shuttle to take you back to the CR. From the Dolphin, you can grab a bus to the MK and walk back to the CR.

Many other car rental agencies have desks at one fo the Downtown Disney Hotels. You could check to see if they have complimentary shuttles, or you could walk over to Downtown Disney (some of the resorts are closer than others) and grab a bus back to the CR.

why not just rent at airport when you get there, and avoid cab/shuttle fees and return car on/near WDW when you get to CR? seems simpler....

Because I pay a higher rate to return the car to a different location than where the car was originally rented. And I would have to pay for the car and to park the car for the 3 days it would not be in use.
