I'm looking to eat at Jiko and CaliGrill on Apr 11 & 12 because I will be there for business. They do not have any adr's for those nights but people told me here that there are open Kitchen areas for walk ups in these 2 restaurants. Since it will be just me, I thought I could show up at 5 and see.

I spoke to 2 different people at CRO and they both said there were no open kitchen seating areas in either restaurant. Now I at at Cali Grill before and thought I saw one and I thought I saw one at Jiko on the Samantha Brown special on the travel channel.

Can anyone confirm this?

I know that there is one at Jiko. I sat at it last year. However, I didn't realize that you could sit there without a reservation for the restaurant. I had a reservation, but the night I ate there wasn't very crowded anyways.

You have to go to the podium at both restaurants to get seated at the 'counter' areas. At Jiko, it's "The Cooking Place" seating area. At California Grill, it could be at the sushi bar or on the far right side of the open kitchen area.

But you can't seat yourself at either. If you arrive at 5pm at either place, I would say you should be seated there fairly quickly. Most people want tables, not counters.

Thank you for the info. It would be nice if the CRO knew these things too :)
