I think some of us owe Yavn an apology...

You missed my point. He was, I believe, speaking concerning "contact us" as far as making suggestions. I find it hard to believe that they spend all that time on WHOMPing people for mentioning other sites in game, and then he would allude to other sites himself. Of course, he has flipped the double standard thing a few times.

Sorry Doc, he who?, I suggested that members instead of being frustrated and complaining offer suggestions as to what VMK could do to fix problems, I never once mentoned using the contact us button to do that.

Yavn Blog is not a double standard. Mentioning sites in the game is one thing, YAvn's blog is not in the game and what makes you think he alluded to it in the game?

Also it is not a forum board where information can be exchanged.

Mal, I was not speaking on what you said, but on what Yavn said. Whether Yavn's "blog" is in game or not, I do not think makes a difference. It is on the VMK homepage. The fact that he acknoledges other sites at all bothers me. If we cannot say "hey I know you from Dis boards" he shouldnt be talking about it in his newsletter. Therefore I have to think when he said "make suggestions" he was referring to contact us, not posting on message boards.

And to add. We can offer suggestions here, yes, that is great, but I posted 5 days ago about all the games not working and nothing has been done, or even mentioned about it.

Not to argue with you but how do you know that nothing is being done?

I dont know what is "being" done, but I know nothing has been done as of yet and he didnt deem it worthy to mention it in either of his columns this past week. I personally feel those are a little more important to the game than "someone called me a liar on a message board"

VMK was created by the original designers of Habbo Hotel. While the IN GAME diffeences are siugnificant. The code base is essentially the same. and really, you could ask any of the amatuer programmers around her (and there are many) of how easy it is to compare the two.
Thank you for saying this.

Alionette, as I said, VMK was created by the Sulake Corporation...they are the SAME people who created Habbo Hotel. So they don't need to get permission from themselves to make a game similar to their own game. Copyrights? That doesn't take that long to get. To say there is nothing that is similar is very wrong...there are a lot of things that are similar. Have you even played Habbo Hotel? Because I have...and the two games while distinct, are also very similar. You also contradicted yourself...you said it's not connected to Habbo Hotel in any way and then you say that they are the same company. Which one is it? Either it's made by the same company or it's not. In this case, it is. As far as Nintento is concerned, you're comparing apples to oranges. Nintendo is a game console company but other companies actually make the games. For example, Disney made a Haunted Mansion game that is playable on Nintendo GameCube. The game was not made by Nintendo but rather for Nintendo. On that note, the game was also made for other consoles as well. I also love the Lego Star Wars games. It's playable on PS2, GameCube, XBox, Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, and PC. But the game itself was made by LucasArts/Traveller's Tales in conjuction with Lego....not by the makers of these consoles. So this does not at all compare to VMK because VMK was actually created by the company that made its predecessor. Now Disney obviously approached them to do it, but the actual game was not made by them. One company that does multiple games usually has the same way of approaching game after game...basic concept and codes are usually very similar if not identical...and gamers are very aware of this which is why many gamers tend to like games from certain companies because they are familiar with the concept and they know whether or not a certain company makes a good game or not. And finally, I never said they did none of the work. I said they did not spend 10 years of their life working on VMK as someone else said they did.
As I said in a previous post, I feel if something is going to be said, we should make sure it's accurate.

Anyway, this has completely gotten away from the point of this topic.

Some interesting facts:

VMK is not the first game Yavn has made....I changed his name in the following to Yavn(not his real name)and this is a little out of date but you get the idea.

Yavn produced M.C. Kids (NES) Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves (NES, GB), Cool Spot (GB) Prince Of Persia (GB), Greg Norman Shark Attack (NES), Overlord (NES) and Caesar’s Palace (GB), which he also wrote the music for. He was also involved in the development of Corporation (Genesis), Chuck Rock (Genesis), World Trophy Soccer (Genesis) and Terminator (Genesis), Aladdin for Sega and Disney, Disney’s Lion King team (Genesis, SNES) at Westwood Studios as lead designer. He did additional design work for Disney’s Jungle Book and well at the Game Boy, and Game Gear versions of Lion King.
Spider The Video Game for Boss Games. Yavn was recruited to do Ultima 9: Ascension team as lead designer and co project director in 1997.

Currently Yavn is with The Walt Disney Company where he is managing the Advanced Project teams for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online. While with Disney, Yavn has produced and designed Alias Underground, Brother Bear Puzzle, The Magical Gathering Vacation Planner and Mission: Space Online. Seth designed D-Racer, and Disney’s Mini Golf. In 2005, Yavn will release 2 parks related games for Disneyland’s 50th Celebration.

I am sure there are many many more but that is an overview of his work.

It really doesn't surprise me that people on the message boards are saying
nasty things when they aren't getting their instant gratification from the
game.

I agree with Bevgray, when she stated that the players who are bashing
him are more than likely that targeted age group (8-14). If it turned out
that adults were posting that garbage, I'd find that pretty sad.

And it's also human nature to complain. I was in Las Vegas this past
weekend, and sure enough, I encountered a complainer when I was waiting
for my crepe at the Paris resort. If any of you heard this woman's
argument, I think you would have all done this...

That's how I feel about all the complaining I'm seeing in VMK. Get over it.

I think you are a little confused here. Yavn said nothing about this on the VMK homepage. He was talking about messages he received and forums on his own personal blog on Yavn.com. Which is Not mentioned anywhere on the VMK homepage. He speaks of the game (naturally) as well as other games and personal things on his own blog. On and in VMK, he mentions nothing about any sites other than the VMK homepage and Disney controlled sites (except ebay during that promotion).

..theres a yavn.com?

Yes, there is just type it like that.

I dont know what is "being" done, but I know nothing has been done as of yet and he didnt deem it worthy to mention it in either of his columns this past week. I personally feel those are a little more important to the game than "someone called me a liar on a message board"

So, give it a while then. You must realize we are not the only VMK board. There are several other places where people like you want help. If you are having problems in the game then that is what contact us is for. You have no way to know what has been done yet. Some things you cant see in vmk, even if it was a major update. And as for the part i bolded, have you not ever felt that hurt before? You try your hardest to make everything perfect, only to find out that the one you were making it perfect for hated it? I thought everyone at least oncein theeir lifetime felt that hurt. But i may be wrong. So just to fill you in, it does hurt, a lot.

Sorry Mal not trying to start a flame war or anything. I just feel i need to stick up for Yavn right now.

Pinkj, I was not bashing Yavn. The original poster said that this was the newsletter, did not know about yavns blog

and I have used contact us. I got a message back saying their last message fixed my problem, of course. Like every message I get back from them, regardless of the fact that they never sent me a message.

Then try to find someone on vmk to help you. Or send another message stating what happened, the not receiving the message and all. I know you were not bashing yavn, i just fealt it was heading in that direction. You know they call it the black hole for a reason ;)

P.S. Its not Pinkj

Hey all, I've decided to take a break from VMK.

I thought this would be the thread to post this in, seeing as it was this situation that caused it.

I went back and looked through everything that had been written. I do not want to start a flame-war or say anything hurtful, so I will just say this:

I highly disagree with Yavn.

I will leave it at that, and I will come back to the VMK board come February. If you want to pm me about my grievances, I will be at the DIS DLR board.

i've never said yavn was a "dumbo jerk" or anything like that. however, i will say i'm sorry. :sad1:

I Totally Agree!!!!! and just because i feel like it ..

..... we should have vmk smilies on the dis boards

Virtual Magic Kingdom was created by the Sulake Corporation...the same company that made Habbo Hotel. VMK was modeled very closely to Habbo Hotel in the manner that it is set up, characters, etc. Habbo Hotel began in the year 2000, making the game having just turned 7 years old. Since VMK was modeled after Habbo Hotel, that means it was planned and created after Habbo Hotel began...making the its planning and creation much shorter than 10 years. So no, these people did not spend 10 years of their life working on VMK. They did spend time working on Habbo Hotel before releasing it online, but VMK came after that, and by that point, most of the technical stuff had already been taken care of since they had it down with Habbo Hotel...all they really needed to do was refine it and Disney-fy it, and that takes considerably less time than 10 years. I'm really not trying to nitpick here, but I feel we should be accurate in what we say.

Sulake helped with coding but people like Yavn also created VMK in the sense of not code but designs, drawings, etc. The domain www.vmk.com has been registered since 1997. Don't take my word on it. Domain WHOIS them yourself. Yes some of the coding is similar but when you compare it to current day VMK with the tickets and stuff it seems way different. Think for example that I am Sulake. I created two websites. Both using PHP. Their coding would be the same in the sense that I used PHP but the actual site and how the coding was used and manipulated changes the outcome of what it looks like. If your comparing both because they both have 3d models and are MMORPGs then what do you call the thousands of other games that use 3d models and are MMORPGs?

And also as a counterargument to mine: I think Yavn should remember who the game is meant for first. 8-14 year olds. How often do you see an 8 year old that doesn't not make a fit when he/she does not get what they want? Even 14 year olds are not that patient. Give them something extra for a few weeks and they'll take it for granted. Take it away and suddenly it's as if you commited murder. Can you say addicted? I think both sides need to calm down a bit. Yavn should be allowed his little rant as it was not on VMK.com but on his own personal blog and the VMKers rant because fore pete's sake THEIR CHILDREN!.
