I think our trip is off....

Sorry about your sad news but I would recommend trying to save as much as you can between now & then so you won't have to cancel. Disney is worth making sacrifices here and there (ie, eating out, going to movies, etc). Good Luck!!

Ok this is going to make some mad maybe but my theroy is you only live once...and you can't take it with you. I am not saying that you should be totally irresponsible, but I know there are a lot more smarter things we could probably do with our money but dang if you cant have fun every once in awhile then what are we here for?? Just my opinion, but I am gonna have some fun before I leave this place. I suggest you take your trip and enjoy some of what life has to offer. We spend too much time paying bills and working our talis off. Our kids probably think we are all crazy. Working all the time and never having fun.....GO and have a he%# of a good time.

:goodvibes ok now I am in the mood to share my $$ saving tips. I can feed my family of four on 50.00 a week. Shop at Aldi and forget most of the meat, it isn't that great for you neways. Make nachos, and tacos strech the hamburger!! Make Spagetti w/out meat, make big subs with homemade bread. You can make a loaf of french bread for like .25. Get a 1/2 ham and use 1/2 for subs and cube up the rest for ham and scalloped potatoes, shred your own cheese. Borden has their block cheese 1.50. you get the hint. My kids arent even close starving, quite the opposite. I make rice krispe treats homemade for snacks, and buy cheap snacks at Aldi. Make Koolaid, and drink Water, it is good for you sometimes I drink 120 oz or more H2O a day it won't kill you. I buy all my work shirts at Good will for like .25 a piece, and buy our nice outfits at Old Navy. I buy alot of other name brand clothes too AE, Abercrombie, but I only use them for good and use the goodwill stuff for work and play. Instead of going to the movies we do Netflix 20.00 a month and if you watch one every night and put it in the mail every morning you can get on a rotating schedule and get a new one everyday. Cut the cable, netflix has season episodes of all the good tv shows. Nix the internet for a few months if you have to. Clean with bleach or Ammonia an mix it with water {not eachother in case everyone doesn't know that is a big huge no no}, saves you on your cleaners. I could go on for hours. Just save some money doing those kind of things. I realized a long time ago food doesn't make you happy, I feed my kids a ton of healthy food, and alot of snacks too, but I can do it pretty cheap, and have more money for other stuff. My 7 yr old loves veggies so we are planting a garden this year, we just moved into a bigger place, i bought a ton of seed for practically nothing. We should be able to get a ton of awsome food from it. And it is a good family activity, and a good learning one too. Sorry I am a Veggie freak and kind of a hippy. Cant help it. :rotfl: Fruit and veggies are way too expensive in the stores, I buy alot of bannanas and apples, and Avacado because it is cheap I make Guacamole all the time the kids love it. They think they are eating slime:confused3 Boys..... You can do it. Have fun and dont cancel the trip. Everyone here can give you millions of tips to save. Get your yard sale stuff ready too!!!

Spring Cleaning Time! Our refund was almost $2,000 less than we expected. we are leaving April 28th. So I cleaned out the closets and told DD5 we were going to make money for Disny. She cleaned out her old toys and clothes. we had a one day yard sale. We went half price at 12:00 and sold $1.00 bags at 2:00. Whatever fit in it was theirs. DD sold lemonade and cookies. We made almost $1,000 in one day. DD made $63.00 from her lemonade and tips! It's so nice to be clutter free and we are really excited about the extra $$$$:cool1: Please don't give up hope. The money is out there. I am also the coupon queen. You still have time to make it up! Good Luck:thumbsup2

DH and I will be right behind you! We'll be there from Dec 6-16th at AKL. You and your family are gonna LOVE WDW and I've heard a million times now, christmas time is the most magical time down there.

A few weeks ago after doing our taxes (we owe)...I told my DH, just "Forget Disney"..Even though this whole time he has acted like it's not that big of a deal, he was like "NO", saying, our kids are only going to be this age ONCE and we are never going to get this time back again, we have the rest of our lives to worry about money and saving, but we only have our kids, at this age NOW!
He said, where was the one place you wanted to go as a little girl?
Disney World.
So we are going!
He's right. My DD will probably never be at this age where she actually believes in the Princesses and we might not EVER be able to go again and in another 10 to 15 years, the kids will be out of the house and we can never re-live this time, so WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD and it's going to be the best trip ever.

as much as i want to say don't cancel your trip you have to do what you feel is right for your family... have you thought of going in late Aug or Early september?? they have free dining... do you have a disney rewards visa? how many days are you going? i agree with others in saying to cut out the water parks. Spend a day at the pool, then hit downtown disney, this way you can buy one less day on your pass.... take out the hoppers and do a day at each park... i spent the extra money on a hopper and didn't use it once! kinda a waste on money... check out some of online website for discounted park tickets
there are lots of ways to save money... garage sales, collecting pop bottles, selling things on ebay....saving change, put it all into disney dollars for spending money for in the park. i hope you are still able to go, but if not you know where you can get some support!!

I understand about the possibility of your trip being cancelled. It really rips through you like a tornado or something, doesn't it? Contrary to what most other posters have said I'm going to advise doing what is best for your family's budget. Disney will always be there in the future and you can plan again and maybe even hit a deal or two.

This is hard to think about and I know. We have a trip planned, room reserved in December '07 and my heart set on it with many ideas and hopes but there is a strong possibility we will have to cancel it perhaps at the last minute for a number of reasons. I just have to face that reality and it's killing me right now but again, like I said to you. Disney will be there and we can go again in the future. I don't want to force this trip on DH (who is our CFO) or push the trip when our plans for relocation etc. are still so much up in the air. We'll just have to wing it so to speak for awhile.

I always use the guideline that if I can't feel good about something it isn't worth doing. Ask yourself the same if you can.

Good luck!

I wish you luck in whatever decision you take... it's a tough one, I know, I've been there... and I did not cancel it... It was tight for a few months and then I was happy, and I have my pictures and movies to look at... great memories...

Well, here is my two cents and Lord knows with a family of 6 we are always tight with the $$$. Go to Disney. Just do it! You said your family likes to camp, camp at Fort Wilderness at WDW. You can eat like campers do(cheaply) and pack a small soft sided cooler with snacks and sandwiches to take into the parks with you. Take along your crockpot and put dinner in before you go. Have a weeny roast, BBQ chicken, etc. You dont have to spend all day everyday in the parks. Fort Wilderness itself has lots of activties to do for free or cheap. If you need advice on camping at Disnet jump over to the campers forum. Have fun!

If you are worried about a rainy day fund start that now by putting in $50 a week and just keep tucking it away. You'll have another tax refund next year to save if you must, personally I see it as another Disney trip LOL

I wouldn't pack a cooler with sandwiches, because that isn't allowed in the parks. We did bring snacks for our child, but I wouldn't go as far as sandwiches. I have heard some do this and are allowed, while others are told they can't bring them in. But the rule is you aren't supposed to bring in outside food. but most allow snacks for kids.

Are there any other tips on saving money on food while at WDW. We are staying at ASM on lot. I saw the price menu for the food court. How are the prices on food in the parks. We plan to bring snacks.

Only you can know what is best for your family. My biggest advice would be whatever decision you make, don't regret it no matter what. If you make the best decision for you at this time always remember that and have no regrets!
:tink:

I haven't read all the posts, but how about camping at Disney World? They have tent sites and are really reasonable. Good luck.

I have to say that I took my then 12 year old daughter in '96 and , even tho things came up afterward that the money could have been spent on, I never will regret that trip. The memories are lasting me a lifetime. If its something you all are really excited about and looking foward to, than do it. There will always be other things to spend your money on. If its just "something you might like to do one day", than put it off.

All I know is was some of the best money I ever spent and wouldn't change a thing. (PS: We stayed at the Carribean Resort, very nice). Best of luck to you all.

Prices are pretty high every where in my opinion. We ended up doing the dining plan and for us it was a great deal It is just under $40 a day per adult, and it includes one counter service meal, one table service meal and on snack pre person. If we ate out of pocket with everything we had, we would've spent over 100 day on food for us. A couple of our table service meals were over 100 dollars. It was ncie too, because it was prepaid and we didn't have to gripe about the prices once we got there. We did buy a few extras like drinks here and there, and Dh got coffee each morning.

If you want just counter service meals the whole time, then this won't be for you at all. Also if you are a light eater, the plan really has ALOT of food. So you amy just want to pay out of pocket instead, and you could share some of the bigger meals.

here is some menus and prices

Thank you... We are light eaters and I am sure we will do the quick service meals most of the time. This is our first trip and I will think of this trip as a learning trip. I will just expect to pay high prices.

I've been working with my family and friends for free on how they too can afford a disney trip with very little money spent. If you'd like to see what I can do, let me know, and it's free of charge of course. I just enjoy doing it, and am thinking of becoming a travel agent all because of WDW. I could put it together as though it was for me, so no personal info needs to be exchanged, and see what happens. I am a disabled mom of two girls, living off of a ssi check each month. It makes it a little less guilty that my kids never get to go anywhere because of my health, they don't get anything at stores, so I don't feel guilty about our almost yearly trips now. Matter of fact, my 6 y.o.'s 1st trip was a 4 day mini trip to wdw, after I had spent a year in the hospital fighting for my life. My kids were seperated through out that time, and so much more. I tought what better way than to celebrate that I lived beyong the 30% chance of survival and the family needed something powerful for the re-unite. I debated this situation long and heard as I recovered at home for 3 months. We didn't have the money, I didn't want to go and end up in the hospital down there, and so on. I had family and friends saying yeah go, then the same person saying nahhh don't go. Finally we bit the bullet, a good childhood friend went with us in case something were to happen to me while we were there, and I spent barely a dime, and you know what, you only live once, just do it. If something finicially hits, you'll find a way to make it through!

You may have already decided to go, as I didn't get a chance to read this whole thread through yet, but your story hit my memory of that year, and why I just did it.

Haven't heard from the OP since the first post. Have you made the decision? Whatever you choose, it is your choice. Hope it works out whatever you choose! :thumbsup2

First off, I want to thank all of you for your advice. It looks like at this point the trip is back on :woohoo: . DH and I have discussed our trip and our budget a million times and it pretty much comes down to we know we have a little money right now, we know we can get off for vacation this year, and there is always going to be something that we need to spend money on. I am super excited too because we have talked a little more about specifics of the trip and it looks like I will get what I want for what he wants to spend so that is great. As of right now we are spending 7 nights at ASMo with 7 day tickets with water parks (might wait and add that at the parks). We are doing the DDP because we can't do CS all week and leaving property takes too much time. We are driving because we can't commit to plane tickets for other reasons but I've been planning on driving for awhile so it works out. Oh, and as of yesterday, it looks like I am even taking a mini trip to Disney with my sister, after I figure out how much that will cost and how I will come up with that money without taking away from our June trip or the familys budget. But again, thanks everyone for your ideas and advice. I guess now I have to go work out specifics and work on packing lists :goodvibes

Congratulations! It sounds like you're happy with your decision. That's the most important thing! Have fun:banana:

This trip will mean so much to you because of all the deliberation...and I'm confident that once you're there, you'll be so happy you did this! I'm glad you and your dh seem happy with your decision. Have a wonderful time!!
