To my knowledge, he hasn't had a steady one for years. We have a 16- year old daughter who was only seeing him 3-4 Sundays a month for a few hours each visit. Now, it looks like it's going to be even less than that. She says it doesn't bother her as she wasn't seeing him that much anyway. He is the very quiet type and she has never felt close to him. When should I worry about her?

Girlfriends are not threats. No reason to every worry.

And your poor DD, her relationship with her dad should not be affected no matter who is in his life. If it is, then it's his fault. Please don't automatically blame the new girlfriend. When I was dating my DH, I was told to go play with barbies (since I am 7 years younger) by his ex and other hurtful things. Luckily we have repaired some of the damages, but that really hurt. I love my stepchildren so very much and I always encourage their father to spend some special alone time with them.

I agree with Miss Jasmine, again. :)

A dear friend of mine's ex-husband recently found someone. In year's past, he had a rather distant relationship with their son. But I think having a new girlfriend has really made his relationship with his son better. I don't know if its her doing, or what, but the boy is seeing more of his father. I think he needed a woman's touch when dealing with his son, and she was the perfect mediator. And she seems to adore the boy, and vice versa. My friend is not threatened, she knows her son knows who his Mommy is, I think she just thinks of the new girlfriend as one more person to love her son.

So you never know, it may be a good thing. Hope so, for your daughter's sake. :)

When my DH and I started dating we both had 2 yr olds from previous marriages. I know I that encouraged him to see his son all the time, and during the years I was always pushing him to find the time to spend with his son...sometimes he would be so busy that he needed a little prodding....you never know, the girlfriend could be a good thing in the long run!
