I think I'm going to need therapy re: postcard rates!

So last week out of desperation and the fear of no AP rates I made ressies at SOG. MY dad is retired AF so he qualifies to stay there. Still holding my ressies at POR just in case AP rates come or by some miracle we get a postcard.

The truth is, SOG is better for everyone in our party except me and dh who would kill to stay at POR.

Fast forward to today. Go to my mom's house today and from the front door, all the way on the other side of the room, I see it. THE postcard. I start freaking out. Of course it's in dads name,no problem, he's on our reservation. So I call....even though part of our week is listed as blackout, they give me the rates for every night of our stay.

Now the dilemma....POR is still a tiny bit more expensive. and I mean a tiny bit like $8/night more. So now the agony.....

This is my first time staying on site, I really want the full immersion experience. I know that SOG is technically the better resort, bigger rooms, interior corridors, balconies, 10 minute walk to the Poly, etc etc. But am I really going to regret giving up my hopes of staying at POR???

I'm sure this won't be your last trip to WDW, so if your heart is set on POR, you should stay there! Then, no regrets! Just enjoy your experience!

im laughing at your story. i started out booking 1 ROOM at AKL with a decent price, got a dif . postcard a fewweeks back. my dh is really dying to stay here. Then , my dd is having 2 FRIENDS coming with us, ok. so now i call to CHANGE to CBR. i really wanted to stay here to (poly is my 1st ) So now i have 2 rooms booked at CBR. Well then the POSTCARD comes.........oh my god,, i call and change , now we have 2 ROOMS AT ASMUSIC!!!!!!!! i wanted the movies , but got voted out. i cant believe i had to change from akl to asm. not only that i think i have received like 6 dif. res in the mail, cause my price changed like 3 times . the last time it wasnt alot, but x2rooms it adds up. so someday i suppose we will make the AKL.........

You need to just do it...you will be glad you did when you get there and see how wonderful it is to stay onsite, it truly makes your vacation to stay onsite. I could never stay off site now.

You will be thinking about it the whole time you are there. You deserve it and I really don't think you will regret it.

Another vote, for splitting up your ressie.. Maybe do your MK and Epcot days at SOG and MK and Ak at POR. I love POR we are staying there after 4 days at the Poly.

I would go with POR since you've got the good rate. That little bit more money a night isn't too bad, considering.

I had the same delimma when the 5/2 came out. We were booked at the Swan with the RN discount, but I've always wanted to stay at the Poly. With the 5/2 deal it didn't make it less than the Swan but within my budget. So we went with the Poly instead. I'm sure the Swan is very nice but I figured that I will be an RN in a year and my mom is an RN so I can take advantage of that rate another time.

Stay at POR and go to SOG the next time, you'll always be able to go there.

I think you should go with POR. You know that it's the resort you have your heart set on and you don't want to go to WDW wishing you had stayed there. I say, go ahead and switch to POR, otherwise you might be sad you didn't.

Thanks for all the suggestions, you guys are the true fanatics and I so appreciate that! I knew that 9 out of 10 Disers would say go for the Disney resort LOL.

But, this is about just more than what I want, it's what is best for the group ( :: pout pout :: ). So, with more than a little sadness I cancelled my POR reservation this morning so it might free up the good rates for someone else in need.

And, on the bright side....POR will be there next year. SOG is a one-time shot because my dad is going with us. We might as well take advantage of that 10 minute walk to the monorail while we can! It will be several more years before we can actually stay ON the monorail line LOL.

While I truly love POR myself, I thought that SOG was considered a deluxe resort (I know, just for military). It has just been extensively renovated so I think you are actually getting the better resort. Get some guidebooks that talk about it. It sounds wonderful. Have fun.

I was just reading this thread this morning and I was going to post, then I saw your last post.

I wondered if your Dad goes with you all the time. If not, I would have picked SOG. I think you made the right choice. Now you have a reason to go to WDW again, so you can stay at POR. (As if we needed a 'reason' to go to WDW again.)

Also ,much more important than which resort .....is to just enjoy the time with your dad!

I would let him know how wonderful it is to be able to stay at SOG a fantastic resort and it is all because of him and his service to our country!

Lori........ I have stayed at both resorts and honestly I don't think you'll be disappointed in SOG. I loved being able to walk to the Poly for the monorail. It's almost like being in a monorail resort! SOG is a beautiful resort and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.
