I think I want to cut off Dish

In the spirit of saving money ( 98.65 a month) I am going to cancel Dish. The only thing is I am a little slow when it comes to understanding things and I need a little help from those of you who have done this already. To watch tv want I need and antenna and the DTV box? If so how much is that going to cost and where do I buy it. Do you get good reception?

I dont have an anttena. I use a roku box to watch Hulu plus and netflix. I use the wii in my bedroom.

I hear what you're saying...

If you are choosing an over-the-air antenna to get your TV programs, basically, all you need is an antenna.

As for the digital box, those are normally not needed for any TV maufactured in 2006, or later (the technology is built-insisde the newer TV sets).

So, if you have an older TV, yes, you will need the DTV box, which can be had for $40-50 at most stores (Walmart/Target/Best Buy)

I can't get reception even with an antenna in my apartment. You might want to check that out before canceling. It doesn't bother me, all the shows I want to watch are on Hulu.

If you have a non-HDTV you will need a DTV converter which you can buy from Radio Shack for about $40-50 dollars.

You may want to call Dish first and see about a cheaper program option. They have unadvertised packages for as low as $10. (Or at least they did.)

My family cut out cable about 3 years ago and have never looked back.

Same here! We ended up with an $11 Comcast service that gives us our local channels (2-20) so we have ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, ION and 2 PBS. Otherwise we would have absolutely nothing. We use Netflix streaming to watch a lot of stuff (we have two Roku boxes - one in the living room and one in the bedroom). We have just resently started watching Hulu on DH's computer since he has nice speakers hooked up to it. That has a ton of stuff on it!

We have been cable free for over a year now and its been a great savings.

No. We don't have an HD tv - the cable just plugs directly into the tv. We still have the 10 year old tv that weighs about a gazillion pounds (which we won't get rid of until it dies).
