Ok please bear with me I am brand new and thought I understood things but I am now thinking I don't. I have a call in to our guide but he is off until Monday and I will go nuts thinking about it so I want to ask here in case anyone can offer advice.

We are in the process of buying in at SSR with 100 points, we were offered 2009 points. So we have a small trip planned for Sept. and quality assurance (I think I got that right) urged me to go ahead and book that trip today to make sure we could get in somewhere. I felt like I should wait and understood things a little more but I did it anyway. So I booked our three night stay and she said I would be borrowing points, this should have raised red flags but it did not until I got off the phone. So here is the predicament I am in, I don't see the 2009 points anywhere on my member account online, I called MS back and they don't see any 2009 points so I just booked our three night stay with my 2010 and 2011 points. I really did not want to do that. I need the 2011 points for our next trip. I thought and I wanted to use our 2009 and 2010 points to book this three night stay. So I have a call into our guide to find out about the 2009 points. My use year is April. Does anyone have any clue what could be happening and if there is any fix. I know you guys might not know about my specific situation for sure but I'll take any input you got! (Other then the obvious one that I was stupid and should have waited because trust me I am already beating myself up)

With your use year being April, I don't see how you could get 2009 points. You are currently in your 2010 use year. I would contact your guide. Since you are still in the process of purchasing, this can be fixed.

The April 2009 points would already be expired unless you banked them. If you just signed up, I'm surprised that they offered you April 2009 points. Usually they don't offer the prior year once it's past the end of that use year. The April 2009 use year would have ended 3/31/10.

I would call Quality Assurance back and try to find out what is going on, otherwise it will drive you crazy this weekend.

As the others said there shouldn't have been 2009 points if you just bought an Apr UY. The good thing is that since you haven't finalized your purchase they will either fix it if there is something to be fixed or you can cancel that purchase and do a new one. I'm pretty certain they would just fix your reservation for you rather than make you void the current purchase.

When you were buying did you talk about the 2009 points with the guide and then later say you wanted an Apr UY? And maybe then didn't understand that by choosing that UY you wouldn't get the points? At this points only Aug, Sept, Oct and Dec UY's should be getting the current 2009 points.

When we met with a guide in Florida he said our use year would be August or Sept. I think I understand what happened. I guess initially I did not understand that we would be using 2009 points since we would still be in that use year. I thought they were like a bonus that would just be added. So I understand that with an April use year we are past the 2009 use year. I don't have a copy of the proposed contract that we agreed to, we went to get our kids while the guide prepared our bag he gave us and I assumed he gave us a copy but all that was in the bag was our gift cards for touring and a dream book. We did not have the deposit while we were there so we signed a single piece of paper with the detail on it and our banking information for the deposit to be withdrawn on the 30th. Anyway all that to say I don't have anything in hand showing what we agreed to but I am positive it was not an April use year. The guide we spoke with is on a cruise and we were assigned another guide according to member services and he is on vacation. I have left a message with quality assurance so hopefully they call me back soon. So is there anyway to fix this use year issue or are we stuck with April and no 2009 points?

I guess my other question is can the reservation be fixed using 2009 and 2010 points and my 2011 points returned? I know that once you borrow points if you cancel the reservation they go to your current use year and not back to the year you borrowed them from.

Shoot I wish I could turn my brain off. My other question is then an Aug use year would not even allow us to use the 2009 points this September will it? We are past the time frame to bank them and then use them aren't we? Gosh the more I think the more I confuse myself I need to stop thinking for a little while lol.

When did you sign the contract in FL? They definitely should have given you copies of the contract along with the POS and other booklets about what you were purchasing.

And when you buy a new contract directly from disney they will allow points to be banked even though you are past the banking deadline so that could be done for an Aug UY still.

When we bought our contract, they offered us a set of points for the prior year eventhough the time period to bank for that use year had passed. We had to call and bank the extra set of points immediately after purchasing.

Call your guide. I'm sure he/she will get it worked out for you.:wizard:

If you bank the August 2009 points, they will be good 8/1/10 to 7/31/11. For new purchases, they waive the banking 4 month rule.

Thanks for the help guys. I got a hold of QA and she reassured me that it can all be fixed and MS can straighten my points out once the contract is re written. I do need to speak with my guide for him to re submit the paperwork.

What I signed in FL was not a contract but a proposed contract. It was a single sheet of paper with our basic information and what we agreed to. I should have checked that we had that before leaving but I feel confidant it will all get sorted out on Monday. Thanks again guys I will have a nice weekend now knowing all can be repaired.

We have an August use year. We met with our guide in June and told him we may want to add on more points. He said the best time to add on points would be June or July (for us). He said that you get the previous years points (as long as it is before your use year month) but you are not charged the maintenance fees for the previous year. He says it kills him when people call him in their use year month and want to add on he wishes he could turn back time a couple weeks. So if we are gonna add more we need to get busy on it.....

The banking deadline doesn't apply to add-ons/new purchases.

We have an April UY @ SSR. Bought BLT with an April UY on March 29. Because we were still within our 2009 UY (despite it being March 2010) we were granted 2009 points & were allowed to bank those points because it was a new purchase. A MS supervisor had to get on the line to do so but it was done. FWIW, we've done this twice, purposely making our purchase at the end of our UY to get those "extra" points.

To the OP, you have 10 days to sign & return your paperwork. If you haven't even signed yet you will have no problem being re-written but understand that in order to get 2009 points you will now need a UY of Aug or later.

Not sure if you will be able to deal with all of this on Monday. Isn't that the Holiday in the US? You may have to wait yet another day.:sad2:

Yes Monday the 5th is a day off for most due to the 4th falling on Sunday this year.. I'll bet you are correct. OP, I know how hard it is to NOT worry, but it will all work out. Your guide should be able to help you, with a little Pixie Dust to assist:goodvibes

My guides voicemail said he took Friday off and would be back in Monday so hopefully he does not have a ton of people to call back and we can talk to him on Monday.

Just so you know -- under Florida law, you have 10 days from the time you sign the final purchase agreement (NOT what you signed) to rescind the contract with no penalty. You just say no, and you get all of your deposit back. This recision law applies to all real estate transactions in Florida, not just timeshare sales.

If you get any resistance or difficulties getting what you were promised, cancel.

Also - if you take a longer view than your planned September trip, you should know that you can buy SSR MUCH cheaper in the resale market. You'll see a range of prices, but most SSR resales are selling in the mid-60's...which is WAY less than you are paying, no matter how the DVC timeshare salesman tries to juggle the numbers.

If you buy resale, you may have another option for your September stay. You might be able to take some of the BIG bucks you save buying resale, stay in a regular Disney hotel, and get free Disney Dining Plan.

Your timeshare salesman may tell you that's not possible. If he does, call Disney CRO and ask. If he lied to you, I'd be done with him. Most DVC salespersons don't tell outright lies, but some do, and you don't want one of those for a "guide."

I'd sure take my time and look at all the options.

This is GREAT info to know!!!. We have not suffered from addonitis yet, but we already agreed that when we are ready we want the same UY and the same home AKV. Now I know when to plan to buy to get the extra year of points!!

I was just looking at the Timeshare Store resale listings (link at the top of this page) to see whether there were any contracts that were really right on the money for OP.

I'm assuming OP is paying about $10,000 for their 100 points, so I was looking for 100 points or more for less than $10,000.

I found a bunch of possibilities, but here are just a few of the highlights:

SSR
100 points - all points available October 2010, none banked or borrowed, $7,500 (25% savings)
120 points - 180 points currently available (60 banked, must be used by 6/11), all 120 available June 2011 - $8,400 (a LOT more points initially, 20% more points every year, 16% less money)
120 points - 240 currently available (120 banked), all 120 available June 2011 - $8,400 (a LOT more points initially, 20% more points every year, 16% less money)

AKV
100 points - all points available October 2010 - $8,400 (16% savings, points at AKV)

P.S. I have no interest in any of these contracts - I don't have anything for sale.

Thanks for looking those up for me. For this purchase we have decided direct with Disney is what we want to do. For add ons in the future we will look more into buying resale. We got our points for $90 with 2009 points and no closing costs. (Well obviously we have to get our UY changed to get those 2009 points but after talking with QA I am confidant it will not be a problem at all to get that changed)

We also bought with an Aug UY and got the 09 points as incentive but I wish I had bought more now. Did I read it correctly that this will be an ongoing incentive and when I DO add on (since addonitis has already set in) I will be able to get the 09 points again? Does having 2 different UY's make things more difficult or better? :confused3
