I Think I Killed My Daughter's Hamster!

I would take the little guy to the vet, too. He's old and he's in pain and I'm sure your dd would really appreciate it.

:wizard:

Aw, that is so sad. I will not have hamsters anymore because their lifespan is so short. It is just devastating to the children to see a pet die every few years.

I would tell her when you can, but I would not automatically replace it with another one. Only because you will definitely go through this again in just a few years (possibly sooner).

I would keep it simple and tell her it was his time, explain that the average hamster life is only 2-3 years before making a decision on another pet. JMO I am sure you are just beside yourself.

:grouphug: just a hug for you and your DD. My adult sister has her 6 month old kitten pass away yesterday. So I understand what you are going through right now.

That's what happened to our hamster . . .One day she was fine, then the next day she grew this huge tumor thing and pulled off all her hair that was around that area , and then two days later, she died. :guilty:

It wasn't your fault :grouphug:

I finally was able to explain to DD what happened with Chewy and prepare her for his death. She took it well. So, this morning I check on the little bugger and what do I find? He's cleaning himself and when he hears me, he walks to the edge of the cage waiting for me to give him a treat! His eyes are bright and he seems like his normal happy little hamster self. I got a look at his side and it appears to be healing. Chewy gets to celebrate Christmas too  Whew! A sigh of relief. The eventuality of Chewy's demise can be put off a little longer. At least DD is prepared for it because of his advanced age. But for today, happy hampster, happy mom!

A Christmas miracle. :goodvibes

That is so great that Chewy is doing better. I'm sure it will make your daughter's Christmas extra special. :flower:
