I think I have a problem

:goodvibes Not that unusual, I always have some problem or another. My current problem involves todays events. Maybe someone can quell my sickness.

Last night, I noticed a couple signs on the corner of my street. With arrows on them. And a Tri for the Cure thingy. Hmmmm, I thought to myself. I went online and discovered that Maine's very first all woman's triathalon would be brining the biking portion directly in front of my house. Twice. Its an out and back course. I think you can see where this is going.

So this morning the kids and I go out and set up camp at the end of the driveway to cheer the bikers on. A couple race volunteers even gave the kids cow bells, which they happily rang throughout the whole race. The first triathlete came by, and I cried. Then the second, and I cried. And so on and so forth till all 500 had gone past my house on the out, and atleast 1/2 had returned on the back.

Now, first off...I doggy paddle. I am not a swimmer. And yeah, I have a bike. But its hybrid leaning towards mountain, not a road bike. Yet somehow I have convinced my self that I will be doing this tri next year. And I only started running in April!

Oi vey:faint:

Johanna - we need to start a club. I just started this running thing in Jan and am already set to do a tri next summer. Yep, just as nuts here in Chicago.

Awesome Joanna, we are here to cheer you own as you train. Never be afraid to dream, I'm chasing an impossible dream myself and by God I'll enjoy every step of the journey whether I achieve the goal or not.

There are some good Tri athletes on here that I'm sure will be glad to help you with training plans and answering questions.

Go after it lady!

Excited for you Panda:hippie:

I am a sucky triathlete, competing tomorrow in a sprint I decided to do for fun, since my first EVER tri was a 1/2 Iron man 3 weeks ago.

A year ago I was 50 lbs heavier, and could barely finish a 5k.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!

Johanna....keep drinking the KoolAid....it's good for you!!
;)

See if there are any adult swim lessons near you, or a swim clinic (Total Immersion, for one), or masters swim sessions. learning some swim technique will help.

You can stick with the hybrid to start....until you get hooked!

yay!!:goodvibes

I can't relate as far as the Tri goes since I can't swim or ride a bike. (I know it sounds silly for a grown man not to be able to do those things but there are reasons.) Anyway, I just started walking/jogging in the last 4 months or so and I will be doing my first 5k this coming weekend. I think it is the race. The competition that gets us all. At least, that's what has gotten me.

How awesome that the bike section comes right past your house. And congratulations on commiting to do this next year. I only started running - well run/walk a year ago in June and I signed up for the 2009 full marathon at Disney. Once you put your mind to it you will be able to do it.

Woo Hoo...Way to go Johanna! :cool1:

I know you can do it! And know that you'll have tons of cousins cheering you on through the training and the event!
