I think I got a deal today on AG stuff...

- the word "husband". :rolleyes1
I just have to ask...what on earth is wrong with the word husband??:confused3

So, OP...did you go back?? I sure would have and would be listing my heart out on ebay. I currently have a brand new AG doll on craigslist. I really debated ebay or Craigslist and finally figured I will list her on CL and if she doesn't sell then I will go to ebay. Some Bitty Baby items too. So, keep your fingers crossed for me!

My mom just got a really great find she just bought Samantha with a wooden closet and an outfit for 30$ at a yard sale. It will make such a nice Christmas gift my my youngest

According to AG PLaythings, if you use the word husband in your title, it is not only insensitive but "espouses intolerance" and shows "a deep disrespect for and lack of understanding of AGPT's mission and members." In other words, it doesn't respect the diversity they seek so desperately to promote b/c not everyone has a spouse, much less one of the opposite gender.

The original thread was a positive one where the OP was praising her husband for being "trained" in AG and asked others to share positive stories about their families. It had great potential to be a wonderful thread. After being immediately harrassed for using the word "trained" (that's for dogs, don't you know?) OP changed it to "learned", then finally to "experienced" (I think) in an effort to please. That's when the rant began about how insensitive it was to use the word husband and I finally got frustrated enough to jump in. By pointing out on the thread, which BTW had already been so badly hijacked in an attempt to intimidate the OP and others, that I was on a doll board to discuss dolls instead of lifestyles, I was told I was guilty of "disruptive posting" and a "thinly veiled personal attack" on the resident bullies. The thread was locked and I was banned.
I'm still a member of other doll boards, and mostly only posted on secondary market threads there anyway so it's not like I've missed AGPT any. ;)

Wow, after reading that I am not sure I want to post on there anymore, thats just really strange lol.
Well you could talk dolls anytime here on the DIS, I have found a lot of DISers are always looking for AG codes and deals and questions about care for dolls, so there must be many of us out there lol.

I just bought the American Girl Irish Dance Costume -- brand-new in the box -- for $10 today at a flea market. The grandma bought it for her granddaughter, who didn't have an AG doll. It's too cute!

Anyway, I should have checked the internet before opening it. Amazon has it for $80 - $100; less on ebay. But, I'm trying expand our doll clothing.

I'm going to try to check flea markets for this things more. Last week, I got an almost new Bitty Baby for $2.

Aww, I love the Irish Dance Costume! What a great find :goodvibes! And good find with the bitty baby, DD wants one of them too, not sure how much play she will get in with that though, she never really showed an interest in baby dolls. But the the 18inch dolls she constantly has some sort of story line going on with them lol.

I bought the Bitty Baby blonde twins at a rummage sale over the summer for my granddaughter for $15. I also bought a larger rubbermaid bin full of build a bear clothes all complete outfits including panties, shoes and wigs for $20, I put everything away for Christmas.

My mom just got a really great find she just bought Samantha with a wooden closet and an outfit for 30$ at a yard sale. It will make such a nice Christmas gift my my youngest

Great finds!!! Especially Sam, I love her! she was my fav when I Was little, but my mom didn't get me any AGs b/c she thought I would grow out of them quickly.

I was really surprised at the number of supportive messages I got thru email, IM, and also quite a few PMs on other boards where I'm active. I'm told the AGPT locked thread is still searchable. It was just within the past week or so. The mods anywhere else would have pulled the entire thread - or at least made all offending posts vanish - but apparently not there.
It's supposed to say something like banned for not playing well with bullies... oops, others... on my profile but still shows my status as "activated". Hmmm... thanks, but no thanks AGPT... says I. pirate:

If you haven't checked out American Girl Fans Message Board (AGFMB) you might want to pop in over there. It's a very friendly, welcoming place where bullying isn't allowed and enjoyable doll talk prevails.

 Quick, grab the phone and have them hold it all! I sense a very merry holiday coming your way from all those AG ebay sales...:woohoo:

Really??? I looked last year on eBay because I was thinking about selling my DDs old American girl stuff. (We live in Chicago and went there often :rolleyes1). But it didn't seem like the prices were worth the effort. Has that changed??? I have 2 big bins full of stuff to sell.

I noticed that retired dolls do well on Ebay, all the past retired GoTY and Sam, Nellie, Kirsten and their things. Last year I was trying to win Nellie and w/o her clothes she was going for close to $180! And if she was with a bundle of her things a lot more, same goes for Sam. Kailey is hard to get cheaply and so is Chrissa and Lindsey.

O and any retired items like Molly's Radio, stocking set, etc. When Kit's typewriter was on hiatus I remember people buying it for close to $100 around Christmastime, and the typewriter was only $22 or something like that @ AG.

GL, let us know if you list anything.

Another thing to look at, bids go up significantly in the last few seconds

I guess it depends upon exactly what's in those bins but AG is at the height of popularity right now among the elementary school set. Of course, what's worth the effort for one family might not be for another though.

Ironically, IMO from all appearances, what it took for AG to reach this dubious pinacle of success after almost 25 years of producing top-quality girls' historical fiction and heirloom quality accessories was just a few hundred thousand McDonald's happy meals. Go figure... :rolleyes1

Hey does anyone know where I could get a box that would fit an AG doll inside of it?

AG sells boxes as replacement parts. Unless they've gone up in the last year or so, they're $5 for the 18" box top w/bottom. I'm not sure about the bitty baby box price though. Call AG customer service to order or ask which dolls' boxes are currently in stock.

If you're looking to ship a doll without the AG box, you can fit one or two dolls sitting down sideways in an 8x8x12 box - priority mail provides them free but I've found plain brown ones the same size for 68 cents at our walmart.

If you mean a box to ship, just cut a larger box down to size.

Thanks, yes, its a gift box, for the Nellie doll. My aunt is going to buy it off of me and give it to DD for Christmas but I wanted to give it to her in a box so I know its safe wherever it may get stored til Christmas lol.

went back today to drop DD's used toys off and got Sam's Winter coat, hat and mittens ($12) and Kits PJs and slippers ($10) Yaaaay! :cool1:
