How do you tell, besides going to the docs??? I stubbed it yesterday morning and it was sore and hurt when I walked on it all day. When I got home and took off my sandals it was all black and blue. So this morning I put on sneakers -- my foot doesn't fit very well and it hurts worse cause it is all cramped up in there. I was running late and didn't have time to change back into my sandals.

I was thinking that the doc can't do anything for a broken toe anyways and really hate to pay for a visit if they don't do anything.

So here I sit with my shoe off to give my little toe some room to expand.

What do you think???

I have been to the er when I broke mine the first few (more then a dozen) times.....they put a piece of guaze between the toes and then taped them gently together......this is to keep it out of harms way and it sort of heals .......if you are sure that is all you broke.....then try this....then try to get your shoes back on .....somehow when you have had a broken toe.....they stick out like sore thumbs.....I wear shoes now most of the time......doctors orders....hahaha.....I did go to the ER a few years ago when I broke the last three on my right foot.....went right into a door between a few.....so they all broke.....good luck and take tylenol and keep foot elevated when you are sitting down

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm pretty sure I broke one of my toes a few weeks ago but I didn't go to the dr so I don't know for sure. I just tried to be careful with it. I felt about the same as you do- I didn't want to spend the money if all they could do was x-ray it and tape it up. It still hurts a little but it seems to have healed up pretty well without medical attention.

I feel your pain. I broke 4 toes 6 weeks ago. Your right, there's not much that can be done. All the black and blues have finally faded and the swelling has gone down on all but one toe, but they're still pretty tender. Be prepared to hobble for awhile.

Keep it elevated and put ice on it. I broke my little toe about a year ago and wow did it hurt. The night I broke it I was up all night in throbbing pain. I was unable to wear anything other than a clog for weeks. (They were leather and stretched out)

If it is in fact broken, be prepared for it to take about six weeks to heal. Those little guys take a long time with a lot of pain!

Good luck!

When I broke my toe I called my dr and he said just tape it to the next toe and be sure to ice it often. Take some advil and it will get better. Took what seemed like forever but it did heal. He said no need to come pay him to tell me what he could say over the phone.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! The first day of our trip at CBR this May I broke the middle toe on my left foot. I know I broke it because when I smashed it on the footboard of the bed (yeah - I'm a klutz) DH and I heard the snap. It immediately turned black and blue and swelled up. . . I know it wouldn't help to go to any ER so I dealt with it - went to the CBR gift shop and bought a first aid kit and I will tell you, it didn't slow me down a bit. Walked a little funny on my left foot and got some nasty blisters but my trip was fine. The only thing is that I wished I had gone to the ER or the doctor's office since now it is healed and slighly bent so you should take that into consideration. . .

I have done the same on my little toe on my left foot a couple of times. &*$# that smarts:earseek: I'm sorry it hurts. Try to stay off it as best you can. FWIW, I don't have any on-going pain or problems with it.

I think I broke my little toe when i was in jr high. I didn't go to the dr either, but I couldn't wear a shoe for about a week. I didn't even do anything for my dog when he broke his toe, other than get x-rays so I knew for sure. His bandage stayed on for about 15 seconds; now his toe is crooked. :p

I recently did it to the toe next to the little one. Bashed my foot into an exercise machine in the dark. It's been about 7 weeks now. Doesn't hurt any more, but yesterday was the first I wore sneakers for just a brief time. Up till now I've only been wearing sandles.
