I know that I posted this on the other thread, but it is now really upsetting me. We invited my parents to come to WDW and stay at our new "home" at AKV for spring break 2010. We needed 205 points which was all of our 2010 and either all of our 2009 or 2011 points, plus 5 banked/borrowed. Well, we decided to take a trip in June 2009 and use 95 points. Then, we'd bank the remaining 5 and use all of our points from 2010 and 2011 to take mom and dad. They were just talking to my DD's (ages 3 and 5) yesterday, reminiscing about our trips when we were kids. They were so excited.

Now, DVC has taken that all away. The 2010 trip will now cost us 230 points and we will only have 205. I thought maybe we could downgrade our 1BR in June to a studio. That would free up the 25 points we'd need. I just looked at the availablilty page and ALL of the studios at AKV are booked for the 9th and 10th. We have already purchased NON-REFUNDABLE airfare so cancelling is out of the question. Our dates are June 6-11. June 6 is in a value studio and that would have to stay the same. The 7th-11th would have to be a value, standard or savanna. I wouldn't care if it were Jambo or Kidani, but they are both full.

I don't know what to do:sad: . I can't tell my parents that we can no longer afford to take them. I can't cancel our June trip and lose the $700 airfare. I am just so sickened by this turn of events. I am really, really hoping that the points charts were a "mistake" and that they were taken down because they were posted in error. It took me 7 years to convince DH to let me get a DVC membership. We had to save that long just to afford the small, 100 point contract that we bought. Now, for our first trip as members, everything gets turned upside down. I can't enjoy our trip in June knowing that it means that my parents won't be able to go with us the following April.

I just cannot bear to tell my mom and dad that they won't be able to come with us. They couldn't afford to pay for a hotel stay themselves. The way my dad was talking to my 3 year old daughter yesterday...about taking her on Dumbo and the "Pirates of the Can of Beans" (which is what my sister called it when she was 3 and rode it for the first time), talking about watching the parade and getting their pictures taken with Mickey....the thought that I now have to tell them that they can't come along is absolutely breaking my heart:sad:  .

Thanks for letting me vent...I am open to any and all suggestions.

(And, no, adding on more points is definitely not an option.)

How about just renting a couple points from a member and transfer them for this trip?

Sorry for your troubles, I read elsewhere that Disney is changing the points charts for 2010 so..... however I think you have plenty of time to get a transfer for the trip next year. Everyone is going to have variations in point use going forward so lot's of points will end up on the rent board. Go in June and think of what it will be like with your parents next year and have confidence that you can get a transfer at some point. Watch the boards and make your move on points when they are posted.
Good Luck and Enjoy, it will work out.

Would you be willing to pay cash for one night this one time (and hopefully they might offer the 25% member discount)? Just a thought.

Check other resorts for a studio or OKW for a 1br (probably cheaper pts). You said you checked the availibilty board but have you called MS? Get a studio at another resort and if you really want to stay at AKV put in a waitlist for a studio. You have options.

If you can't get the transferred points, can you shorten your 2010 trip by 1 night?

Personally, I would book one night (probably a weekend night) as a cash night, through MS so the reservations would be linked. If you're lucky, a member discount may be available nearer the time which would reduce the amount by 25%. Perhaps your parents could pay the cash night seeing as you are using your points for the rest of the trip :confused3

Paying cash for a more points expensive night sounds like the best answer.

Any requests for renting or transfers must be posted only on the DVC Rent/Trade Board.

I'm sorry for your situation. You could consider moving to OKW for your June trip - less points.

What is the availability page??? I've never heard of such a thing

Gosh, I'd shorten the 2010 stay by one night. Please don't cancel---I'm sure your parents are very excited. Think of it this way, you're giving them a free trip, and I'm sure they'll still be thrilled.:grouphug:

It really sucks. I booked and borrowed points for 2009 - with a christmas stay in mind for 10 which I would have had enough points for - but not now. I cancelled a BLT add on because of this decision. I would write a complaint to dvc. I am hoping it goes back to the old point charts for 11. I know some people are happy with it - but it is a 20% increase for those of us who stay sunday thru thursday - and bought points accordingly.

I agree with this & what others have said. First call MS & see if AKV or another DVC resort has a studio available for your June trip. You can always stay at AKV some other time if there really is nothing at AKV. If absolutely nothing is available, then either shorten the 2010 trip by one night or book the first night in a value on cash or off-site. I think cancelling would be heartbreaking for everyone involved & not necessary. Of course I would wait for the 2010 points to be re-posted on the DVC site, because they took them off for a reason so you never know! Good luck! pixiedust:

There are are loads of resorts, I'd give MS a call and move your June trip to another resort, some have lower points (like OKW or SSR) or one may have a studio available. I'd be very surprised if all the resorts were completely sold out.

It really bugs me that Disney is getting so GREEDY. All of these policy changes don't really do much on the plus side for the membership and creates a hardship for most of us.

I am amazed that we continue to change our lives to work around the short comings of DVC policies.

I'm not familiar with the new changes on the points charts. What's going on? This is starting to freak me out to as I have a trip planned for 2010 and have exactly the number of points I will need.

i check the members web site today and it said that they made a mistake on the 2010 point chart and should take week to resolve the problem.

I would cut back on the June 2009 trip and perhaps just stay a couple of nights in a Moderate or Value paying cash. I wouldn't cancel or change the 2010 trip. If you do, you will regret it for sure.
