DS, 6 months old, has not been himself lately and I think it's because he's teething. His has been eating less....no solids at all and only 4 oz of formula at a time (normally 8oz!). He's eating more often during the day, just less at a time, so he's still getting the right amount of formula. He's very cranky...didn't sleep through the night last night. His hands are CONSTANTLY in his mouth...he's always chewing on his fingers or hand. He goes for his 6 month checkup on Tuesday (his ped is out until then) so I was trying to wait it out until then. I just don't know if we should give him something. Any advice? I feel so bad for my little man.

Awwww Poor baby! :( Do you have any of those plastic teethers that you can throw in the freezer? That seemed to work for DS. He also had a teether thing that vibrated when he chewed on it. I'm not quite sure of the purpose of that but it helped some too :(

I hope he feels better soon! He sure is adorable!! :)

He does have a few of those, but he can't hold them too well...they're all a bit big for his little hands. Plus, I really think he rathers his fingers.

It sounds like teeth. Is he drooling a lot? You can rub a cold wash cloth on his gums. I've also used Baby Orajel but check with ped. first.

My 19 month old is cutting all 4 of his eye teeth at the same time.

It sounds like teething. The over the counter teething stuff worked well for DD. I'd rub a little on her gums before bed and it really helped. Another thing that worked were frozen waffle sticks and frozen bagels (cut into quarters before freezing). These were easy for her to get into her mouth and I'd just replace when they got mushy.

Sounds like teething. DD cut her 1st two teeth 2 days after she turned 6 months. She chewed on her fingers and hands a lot. She didn't like the teethers or the cold washcloth. Tylenol helped her the most.
She just finished cutting 4 teeth at the same time and is now 15 months old.

One thing that helped my son when he was teething was little pieces of Icee Freezes. (Those frozen popsicle things that come in the long plastic tubes).

Thanks so much everyone. We'll have to try some of your suggestions tomorrow.

DS has actually been asleep for over an hour now. :) We're trying to be as quiet as possible. Normally, we just go about our business and Colin sleeps through it all (even the dogs barking) and if he does wake up, he goes right back to sleep. Now, if he wakes up, he starts crying...which I assume is because his little mouth hurts him. :(

Any idea how long this will last? I know kids can get symptoms of teething months in advance, but can the pain also come that far in advance?

Try frozen washcloths, easier to hold than teethers. We used to use the baby washcloths, so they were small and managable. Try Infant Motrin, it lasts a long time, we liked it better than Tylenol. Also, just FYI, for what it is worth, I have read and our doc backed up that those over the counter meds like Baby Orajel don't really work and there is some evidence that using them makes novicaine and related pain killers less effective as the child gets older. Now this is just what our doc said and our experience, some people swear by them and that is fine. As for how long it lasts, it varies. I don't recall DD being bothered for too long, she went in spurts with weekd in between that were fine so don't think it will be like this steady for months. Good luck and hang in there!

Sounds like teething to me. Sam just got his 2nd tooth Monday. Teething lasts for a few days for him. He's still a little cranky even after it comes through. Give him some Motrin or Tynol (childrens) if you do that sort of thing and also maybe a finger to chew on. Good luck, this too shall pass!

Charlie started the new year with three new teeth... He now is the proud owner of two bottom and three top teeth (he is 8 months old today) He was cranky a few days before and his nose started running.. a poof... three teeth!

Cool washcloth helped with my other two, Charlie needed Motrin for the bottom, but I was clueless about the top coming in!

Thanks everyone! Colin actually did very well last night. He only woke up once and he at an 8oz bottle and a 6 oz bottle so far today. :) Hands still in the mouth, of course. Hopefully he'll be happy today and we can get out of the house...we haven't left the house since New Year's day when he first started being really cranky!

OMG I love his New Year picture!! What a cutie pie!! DS #4 who is now 19 months was (is) like that when he is teething. He doesnt sleep well--waking often, is very clingy and just a crab. I just make sure I give him Motrin and keep that Baby Orajel on hand.

DD 6 mos has been teething off and on for 3 months no teeth yet
sometimes she doesn't sleep at night, drooling, everything in mouth, cranky.

We are hoping for some teeth soon
Good luck
