I have been doing Atkins since 7-7 and I have beenn following the program VERY well!
It has not been hard and I have been losing weight or inches every week.

BUT, the first week, my Dr. took me off of my diuretic for high blood pressure. I stalled in my weight loss for 2 weeks! I lost 3.5 pounds in my first week and then nothing the second week (but lost inches).

At the end of my second week, I got my period so I must have been holding even MORE water before that.

At the end of my 3rd week, I had lost 1.5 pounds for a total of 5 pounds. Yeh!!! :)

At the end of my 4th week, I have lost 2 more pounds, but then guess what I got only 18 days since my last one? My period again!  Awwww, the joys of perimenopause! So I must have been holding water AGAIN last week!

This is nuts. 7 pounds in 4 weeks is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it is so hard not to compare myself to my fellow Atkins Classmates (those who started the same time as I did). I have still not lost the 8 pounds that would be 10% of what I need to lose.
But I AM losing - weight and inches. So I am usually happy. :) But sometimes it is just hard - especially when your body seems to be against you.

I am still sticking to 20 grams of carbs, but started to add nuts and seeds and maybe some berries this week. I really needed a little more variety.

I really AM fine, but sometimes I have these little lows. And I know that you all understand.

Thanks!

hi there bethR............I noticed that we started atkins at the same time and I think we should be weight loss pals:D

anyhoo, i am sorry to hear that your weight loss has been hard....i lost a good chunk the first two weeks and then 1 week before my period came I stalled out....and I was stuck there the whole week before and the week during my period. Yikes. and also during the week of I ate that jello that was NOT sugar free and I stalled for a few more days and until 2 days ago when I started to lose again I didn't know what else was going on. I was so upset that I wasn't losing for almost two weeks....but now my weight is steadily coming off again and I realized that alot of it has to do with how much water I drink. If I drink more than 2 liters on a given day I am more likely to lose weight when I weigh myself the following morning. I'm sure you know that but I just thought I would share something I realized yesterday.

I am proud of you for sticking with it so far. This is the only diet I was ever serious about and I can't even believe it is 30 days so far today. I am too staying on induction but I haven't added nuts or berries yet. I think everything you are doing is wonderful and in my opinion I truly believe that soon you will drop weight off and it will all come off quick. I think you've had a big loss already and I want to see you reach your goal and I will be here to support you. You take care. We Atkins women have to stick together!!!!

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!:smooth:

I've been on Atkins since May 6 and am stuck stuck stuck.

I keep fluctuating from 259 to 263. Nothing I do helps me break this. (14 to 18 lbs lost depending on the day)

I have not cheated - well OK...once I had 3 oz of white potato - but that was over 2 months ago. Otherwise - faithful as can be to this way of life.

I know what people have told me, but it just doesn't work for me (WAHHHHHH) - alas. but i persevere...

Drink LOTS of water (take your weight divided by 2 - and that is how many ounces of water you need a day --- ie - you weigh 200 lbs / 2 = 100 ounces of water a day)

exercise

write/log EVERYTHING you put in your mouth including gum and mints and splenda! remember to count lemon or lime if you use it in your water.

watch the amount of cream you consume (a hard one for me!)

avoid the bars and candies - these tend to stall people

Hope something there will help you. As for me....I trudge on...............

Robin

It can be very frustrating, especially when it feels like our bodies are working against us. However, you seem to be taking it all in stride and I know you will continue to stick with the program. Hang in there! THIS TIME IT WILL BE DIFFERENT and you will feel fantastic and happy and proud when you reach your goal!

Hi, Beth.

I am a huge person, and the first month, I only lost 6-lbs., but now, for some reason, I am losing weight.

You can do it.

God bless, best wishes, and encouragement, RaySharpton:)

Beth
I started Atkins at the same time. We "talked" back then. I have been having a hard time too. I finally crossed the 10 lb line monday but today I am back at 8.5. I did not cheat but I know I didn't get enough water yesterday. It is very discouraging isn't it? I just keep trudging along. I have stuck with induction the whole time. I read something about a fat fast (or something like that) I think I might try that over the week-end. It is very strict but supposedly gets your metabolism moving. I read about it through Atkins website. Maybe it might work for you.
Good luck to you

Thank you everyone. You are all so wonderfully encouraging.

I will continue to trudge along. I do believe in this program - and my doctor does too. So I am committed to sticking with this program. (OK, I am going to WDW at the end of next week - and that is a once every 2 year thing for me. Don't know if I can be as good as Ray is going to be while there :) - but I am going to TRY to stay LOWER carb.)

PrincessMo - you are just doing so well, you are an inspiration. :)

Robin - you are so committed. Stick with it. I will be sure to remember my water and to keep journalling EVERYTHING. :)

Karen - thank you for your continued support. You are a WISH angel and I just want to {{{HUG}}} you back. :)

Ray - hi! What a sweetie you are, and I will think of your journey whenever I am I need some encouragement. I know those pounds WILL come off! :)

tina - nice to "talk" to you again. :) I would not worry about that 1.5 pound! It could very well be your TOM too. Stick with it.

Stick with it Beth. That weight will come off. That perimenopause really does do strange things to your body so I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the problem. The good news about that is that once you move to the next stage you don't have TOM any more! :teeth:
I started Atkins on 7/7 also. I've lost 12lbs so far at a slow & steady pace of about 2-3 lbs/wk. For me, I'm pretty happy with that.

Have a great time at WDW & let us know if you find any good Atkins friendly places to eat while you are there. I'm looking for suggestions for our trip in Oct.
