My DD is getting married in Aug.

In Oct I actually found my dress!! I was so happy :teeth:

The closest size to mine was a size to big and it was huge on me so they told me they could order the next smaller size since otherwise there'd be so much in alterantions!!

Well the new dress came in Dec--DD picked it up for me--I never tried it on since the bigger size was so big that I just figured the next size and it was wrapped so good I didnt want anything to happen to it.

Today I go for my first fitting the dress doesnt fit!!!!!! :guilty: :confused3

Well DD said we could just exchange it and put a rush order--ok

well the hoidy toidy clerk said it was over 90 days she couldnt do anything!!!

I tried to explain that it was the clerk that said I should order the next size down!!!! :confused3

So they only thing I could do was order another dress!!!!!! :guilty:

so now Ill have 2 dresses one never worn and the other one worn once!!!!

I am so upset since it was the store that said I should order another size.

Does anyone know if theres any other recouse I have?

I already emailed there corprate office and if I get no where there Im writing to the BBB.

Weddings are always stressful times and this really added to it!!!!

Take a deep breath - regardless of what happens it will work out and you will still look lovely at your DD's wedding! :)

I am so sorry to hear about that!! First, take a deep breath and either punch a pillow or hug a pillow- whatever makes you feel better. :) Did you get your dress from one of the larger chains? I would think that most places would be concerned with having one of their former customers telling everybody what lousy customer service they have, so they would want to fix it. However, if they don't, I would definitely contact BBB, and if you have a local news station that has a segment on lousy service like this, I would call them, too (like here, we have I'm Calling Ken!). And, if nothing else, you might be able to sell the unworn dress on one of the larger internet places whose names I'm not sure if I can mention.

When we got married, it was the tux store that almost sent me over the edge. They had issues sending the guys measurements up (they were measured at a store where they lived and we picked up the tuxes from where we were). They gave our ringbearer a man's size vest, they wouldn't let us pick up the tuxes, etc..etc...etc...

Hopefully, they will remember that you are the mother of the bride and have enough other stuff going on right now. One way or another, I hope everything works out ok for you. :thumbsup2 Good luck!!

::yes::

I don't know what the BBB could (or would) do... I would chalk it up to lesson learned and sell the other dress on ebay :goodvibes

Wow..you went from Dec to now without trying on the ordered size? Yikes. Ok, it is what it is. Ask to speak to the manager. See if they'll take back the smaller sized dress less a restocking fee. They're the ones that advised you to order the smaller size. Either way, take the larger dress and have them alter the heck out of it since the wedding is right around the corner. If they can't alter it since its so much larger, find another dress...fast! Hit the higher end stores, like Neiman Marcus, etc. to see if they have a dress that would work for you. Good luck!

Maybe you could sell the dress that doesn't fit at a consignment shop. I know their are a few stores around here that sell previously-owned formal wear.

Try not to worry too much about it. You'll have a dress that fits and you'll look beautiful :)

The last time I was in Talbotts Outlet, they had some really beautiful dresses that any woman would be proud to wear at her DD's wedding. I was astonished at the varied styles and the reasonable prices...they even had some nice dresses that would work for bridesmaids. Perhaps try a Talbotts, Talbotts Outlet or maybe a Nordstrom's...

good luck.
agnes!

Sorry, I don't think you have any recourse with the dress shop. You waited 6 months to try the dress on? Is it possible you gained some weight in that time (not trying to be rude or make you feel bad)? Even if not, the dress shop can claim that. Do as others suggested: try selling it on ebay or to a consignment shop. Or you could donate to charity and deduct it from your taxes next year.

I'm so sorry it doesn't fit. That stinks......but I'm not sure the BBB can help. :( I would just try to kill them with kindness and ask nicely for them to please take the dress back.

That stinks. But it got me thinking. I should go try on my dress for my best friend's wedding. Its two weeks away and I haven't tried the dress on and I picked it up in March. I hope I dont need to have it altered. Sorry about your dress. Good luck.

but I just realized something else--

the larger size was way to big--clerk had to really hold alot it in the back so I could see how it was supposed to look--

next size down is way to small!!!!

I couldnt even get is zipped in back thats how much of a size difference

my DH though one of the dresses was mismarked

since how could one size be miles to big and the next smaller so small I couldnt even zip it

somthing doenst make sense

but then something hit me--on the bag it came in there is a letter "P"

Im wondering if that could stand for petite?!!!

I never gace much thought to the "P" until now

Im such they'll tell me that stands for pink since the dress is pink but then any idiot could see its a pink dress

this isnt over yet

I'm not sure why you think you have recourse (or why it was suggested you contact the BBB). You had 6 months to try this dress on. I'm sure it wouldn't have been a return issue if you tried it on within a few weeks of purchase. Why did you wait until the last minute?

I would try selling the dress on ebay, craigslist, or a consignment shop and then hit the mall and local boutiques for another dress

my friend order fabric from a bridal chain. I went to pick up the dresses and the fabric and was given the fabric bolt in a cardboard tube taped top to bottom. I asked it I should open the tube to check it out and the lady said why? it came directly to the store like that, it has your name on it. and walked away. I had my 18 month old with me and didnt have anything with me to open the tube.... I called my friend and she said dont worry about it and I left. well 2 weeks before the wedding her friend ( who was making the skirt) opened the tube and there was only an empty pole in there, no fabric or anything. The store refused to do anything about it because I signed the slip. I went in and talked to the lady who told me not to worry about it. she refused to talk to me,. while we were there another lady had the same kind of tube and we stopped her before leaving. we told her to check it out and she told us the clerk said it was fine.... we told her what happened and when she opened hers it was empty also..........lucky she hadnt signed anything but they tried to accuse her of hiding it.......they finally replaced hers for free. they only gave my friend a free skirt but she did have to pay for the fabric

I don't think you are due anything from the store. Stores change their fashion inventories rapidly and you are many changes from when you originally ordered it. You are asking them to take back a 6 mos old dress, most stores won't even give you store credit for something that old. Why should they eat the money - since it is last years model they will have to greatly reduce it- they did their part getting it to you, YOU failed to try it on in a reasonable time frame. Accept that things happen in Wedding planning and if this is it for this wedding you will be lucky. TAke the big one in to a good seamstress and no one will ever know it wasn't the right size, it will probably fit you better when they are done. When my nephew got married the dress I found was sizes too big and when they were done altering it everyone commented on how great my dress was and fit beautifully.

Sorry about your dress situation. As to the P being for petite... I wear a petite and it really only affects the length of the dress, not the overall size. A 10 is still a 10 in petite except it is cut shorter in the length and in the torso area. So I don't thin the P is for petite.

That's too bad. Unfortunately when I ordered my gowns--we are the ones who sign to the order so if we accept a suggestion, the burden was on us.

Trying on a dress right away would have alleviated issues as you could have possibly worked with the store.

I'm sorry your dresses didn't fit. I would auction them on e-bay as new with tags and recoup some of that money (with a non-return policy).

I doun't think you have any recourse. The store can just say you gained weight in the last 6 months. I'm really surprised you picked it up so early. Every time I've ordered a dress from a bridal salon I waited until a month before the wedding to go for a fitting. a lot can change size wise in 6 months.
