I walked into the Coldwater Creek store in one of our local malls today and smelled Disney World. They have a little waterfall in the back of the store and it created that wonderful musty smell that you smell on all of the indoor water rides at WDW i.e. IASW, POTC, SM, LWTL, Maelstrom, etc. It was great. I said to my DM, "smell! smell! It smells like WDW!" She looked at me with a confused grin and humored me by responding "oh, uh, I guess it does????" There was a bored husband sitting in a chair by the waterfall of whom I feel confident believed that I might have been a bit odd. If only he knew that there was a whole internet group with active numbers in the thousands of whom would know exactly what I was talking about......and agree! Ha!

I love that smell! :goodvibes I need to find somewhere local where i can get my disney fix... :yay:

OK so I knew there had to be others like me! I made a sidedish the other day and when I tasted it I said OMG this tasts like the MK. The family laughed until they tried it and yup it tasted like the MK--so now they ask when I'm going to make MK for dinner--BTW it is a sweet potato casserole with a praline topping.

My very first trip to WDW was when I was 7. One of the souvenirs I bought was this plastic, blow-up pillow with Minnie on it. We drove and the whole way home I had that pillow under my head or on my lap. To this day (I'm 38) that certain plasticky smell "smells like Disney World" to me. :) I say it all the time (to my husband's annoyance).

I absoultly LOVE that smell....like when I first walk into the wilderness lodge everytime and I know I am home!!

The other day me and teenage DD went to the town over mall. Right when I was stepping onto the sidewalk, we were entering near food court, I smelled Disney World. I don't know if it was something cooking or what but I smelled MK. Well I thought I'm not going to say anything DD will definitely think I'm nuts and at that time she turned to me and said 'I smell Disney'. I busted out laughing and told her I was thinking the same thing. Isn't it wonderful when that happens :yay:

Sometimes I get on an elevator and the smell makes me feel like I am at one of the resorts elevators.

There is also a scent in our school library that reminds me of the smell of inside some of the buildings at Epcot (like Universe of Energy).

LOL, this thread made me laugh. The other day I had DH bring in the double umbrella stroller from the garage to see if we can fix it up to squeeze one more trip out of it. We haven't used it since our Disney trip last summer in August. When my DH came in the house he said "the stroller smells like Disney" :lmao:

You have made my morning! Me and DD love it when we "smell" disney and I should have known all my friends here would know exactly what we were talking about! We love it when it happens and linger for a few minutes and I even close my eyes and transport away. It's the next best thing until I can actually get there....which will be August 22nd! :cloud9: And while we are on the subject...I"m sure someone else has done this...Smells do not usually trigger Disney for DH but when we are at Disney he always comments about how much food is prepared and eaten in WDW on any given day. Then once we get home he'll say (at breakfast) "just think about how many people are eating a breakfast platter right now" and at lunch it's, "think how many hamburgers are being eaten right now" and at dinner, "think how many chickens are being eaten right now". For some reason the fact that Disney can feed so many people, all day, every day is really impressive to him! :rotfl2: I'm just glad something keeps Disney on his mind so he'll agree to keep going! :cheer2: Thanks for the good thoughts this morning!

YES!
I am not crazy!
The water at WDW DOES have a certain smell. Thanks for talking about this.
I think it's a Florida thing because I even smelled it at the fountains at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
You can smell it at the fountains near the Polynesian main building entrance too.
Maybe Disney should bottle up that smell and sell it to the crazies like us who can remember stuff like this.

YUM recipe please!

I am so glad I am not the only one!! It isn't usually a defining smell that triggers this for me but when I smell it, it gives me the chills and a really big smile! :teeth: :teeth:

When my family walks by the Disney store at the mall we take a big sniff of the Disney air. Sometimes we go in just to get a better hit and then we laugh. It really stirs things up. What a great smell. New plastic I think (ha, ha).

Try a Rainforest Cafe (works for me!)

There's a fountain in our local mall that smells like Disney World.

Your sense of smell is the strongest one you have. A scent links to any memory associated with it. The Disney smell thing happened to me when I walked into our conference room here at work. It has that big open, overly air conditioned smell, and bang, I thought, hey this smells like the Contemporary. That slightly chlorinated recycled water smell also makes me think of Disney World. I think it's the smell at Epcot near the big fountain!

There's also a flowery scent that I get from time to time in someone's perfume that smells exactly like the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. I love my sense of smell, it always brings back wonderful memories.

Again you guys validate me! I walked out my door Monday morning and stopped my fiance and said close your eyes and smell. He did, and said OK, what? You can smell Disney in the air! He gave me a look like I love you but you're nuts...and I said no, close your eyes and take that first big smell like you are walking out of your hotel in the morning and your Disney day is starting...can you smell it?

He of course said no. But I could sure smell it.... :cloud9:

Oh I love those random whiffs of Eau de Disney!! It's amazing how it brings a smile to your face. :goodvibes

Speaking of smells --- it's a family tradition that when we get to the Polynesian to check-in we all have to walk in together as a family and take a big whiff of that great GCH scent! Then everytime we walk back in to the GCH during the trip we take a big whiff and go "ahhhhhhhhh".

I had a recent moment of "hearing Disney"! A couple of weeks ago in church, they were showing a video presentation and as the background music was playing I thought "Epcot! I feel like I'm in Epcot!". You know when you first walk into Epcot early in the morning and you can really hear that music and it's just so....Epcot-y? Yeah, it was like that! Then, my 9yo DD leans over to me and whispers "Mom, this sounds like DisneyWorld music". I was so proud of her! :)

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:
