I finally found a really nice Bulova watch that I really liked , since the first one I had held up well.

I purchased it last night, walked out of the store, dropped the bag, the box opened and the watch fell right on the face and cracked. :sad2:

So I ruined a $300 watch less than 5 minutes after paying for it. DHmade me go back in the store to see if they would take it back or do anything....which of course they didn't.

So I'm going to take it to the jewlery store that we got our wedding rings at and see if it can be repaired. If they can't, I guess I will have to send it to Bulova, which will cost me a fortune.

I should have just got a cheap $20 watch!

BTW, does anyone know if the glass in watches can actually be repaired?

:guilty: I would have been bummed. I think you could probably find a jewelry shop to take it and fix the glass. Only thing is, I've heard that there aren't many watch repair places anymore.

I do the same thing with expensive items. Little el-cheapos will last forever, but I buy something nice and there it goes. I dropped my laptop computer about a month after I got it and now the plastic is all cracked and chipped off. It'll cost me $300 to fix.

Yes, the glass can be repaired. Take it to a jewelry repair store, they should do it.

Weird that the store didn't let you exchange it. No 30 days guarantee or something?

It can be replaced. You may have to send it to Bulova or use one of their authorized repair center.

This happened to a friend of mine, but she paid with an Amex, and I guess they refunded her through one of their protection programs. If you paid with a credit card, maybe you have a similar program attached to your card?

Do you think the watch was defective to begin with? Seems strange that the watch face would break because of the distance from the box to the ground, even if it fell on its face, or perhaps I'm picturing the fall incorrectly.

That sucks, though, I like watches, too and this would've bummed me out. They might have to send it back to Bulova for repair, or better yet contact Bulova directly to see what you can do?

Is the watch water-resistant? If not, then I would take it to a jewelry store and ask to have the crystal (which is the 'glass' cover) replaced. It would probably be cheaper, maybe under $50, than sending to Bulova repair. Unless it's a special crystal, like beveled or sealed for water resistancy. In that case, you may want to go ahead and send to dealer.
