Right! I'm so glad you asked this type of question. I got really confused on point usage a few months ago. Our use year is August, and I wanted to make a ressie for October (2010). Not only could I make it with our August 2010 point allotment, I could borrow from 2011 points even though it was only 2009 (November) when I made the ressies. One thing this question did teach me though was that we need more points!

Remember, all trips can be booked at 11 months (home resort) or 7 months (non home resort) so depending on when you travel, depends on what points are available--not the time you call.

For example, if you are booking a trip that will take place during your June 2010 UY, your 2010 UY points will be available for a trip. However, if you are booking a trip that falls in your June 2011 UY, your points for 2010 UY would not be eligible for a trip unless you banked them, even if the 7 month mark for the call falls into the 2010 UY.

For example, you want to travel in June 2011, during your 2011 UY. 7 month window for this trip is November 2010. When you call in November 2010, your 2010 UY points can only be used for this trip if you bank them in to 2011. If not, then they will not be available for that trip.

The easiest way to know if points are available for trips is simply figure out what UY you will be traveling. Then, look at what will be available in your account at the time you go. All trips can be paid for with banked points from the previous UY, current UY points, and borrowed points from the following UY.

Yes this I know. My question is say I want to book a trip in August of 2011. My 7 month for this trip will be January 2011. Say I have no points banked or oterwise in my 2010 use year. Will my points that I get June 1, 2011 be available for me to use?

Yes, they will. When we called in November 2009, we had no 2009 points left. But for our trip in October 2010,our points that were available August 2010 were available. And as I said, if we needed more points forour trip,we could borrow from August 2011.

I think the part that is confusing you is "points I will be getting in June". If you look at your account online, you will see use years June 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. The points don't "deposit" when the use year starts, they are there years in advance.

It is when you are actually there that the points are used. That is really too bad. If it was when you made the reservation things would be so much easier and better.

My use year ends in May and if i don't get there before May, they points are lost (if not Banked).

I would love to make a Reservation in May for December, but does not work (Unless of course using the points from the next use year).

edited to correct: your 2010 pts are good from june 1, 2010 to may 31, 2011.

you can call in january 2010 to book dec 2010 at your home resort with those 2010 pts. you could also borrow pts from your 2011 use year (or use banked 2009 pts) to make the reservation but you don't have to.

With an April use year, your points would be for stays 4/1/10 to 3/31/11. You can bank up to 11/30/10.
There is no May use year
With a June use year, you points would be for stays 6/1/10 to 5/31/11. You can bank up to 1/31/11.
