I should know the answer to this, but...

I'm not too bright!

We have an upcoming 7-night stay at SSR using developer's points (March 11-18). Due to points restraints, the first 3 nights are booked in a studio and the last 4 are in a 1BR.

Do I have ANY options to upgrade those first three nights? Cash? Anything? I'd really like the extra space and the less hassle of switching rooms mid stay.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the clueless question.

Points and cash can not be mixed for any one night. Since one bedrooms are usually about 2x the points of a studio, you may be able to switch one night to a one bedroom, and pay cash for 2 nights. You'll have some points left over, though.

You can also use your "normal" points to fill out what the DP didn't. It doesn't all have to be Developer's Points only.

I'd call and see if you can change the reservation using points to all 1 BR. As Carol mentioned, you might be able to supplement to get the other nights. If you points are not reachable due to purchase constraints, you might be able to get 1 or 2 nights changed over and do cash through DVC for the rest so you don't have to change rooms.

If the developer points were an incentive on a Bay Lake or Animal Kingdom-Kidani purchase, my understanding is that using "normal" points for a March trip would be impossible since they would not be available for use until the member's home resort opened.

That being said, I agree that paying for a couple of nights cash outright in a studio and then using the remaining points for the 1br is the best way to go.

Assuming that the OP doesn't have any other points.... you are right, but lots of people who bought there already had some points and you can combine those.

But the OP said he/she didn't want to move, so the cash ressie would have to be for a 1 BR.
