I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, but it looks like the floating mountains are starting to take shape over at Avatarland in Animal Kingdom. We noticed this during our trip at the beginning of December, and were impressed with the progress so far even though I'm not terribly enthused about the concept of Avatar land as a whole. I really wanted to take a picture, but we were riding Everest at the time so it was kind of hard.

The blog pics are better than mine, but here's one I took form just inside the tapstyles in the first week of December

Wow, thanks for the pictures! Similarly I wasn't to keen on the idea of an "avatar" land, but these photos are slowly starting to change my mind. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Having just seen Cirque Du Soleil's Toruk show (based on Avatar), I'm very excited for Avatar land.

I can't not help but see a face when I look at the mountain. Maybe I have been to Rushmore and Crazy Horse too many times. I wanted to do some walk by's while there but, my friend wanted to other things like... shop. Really? Hours... of shopping and her trying to decide what to get her kids.

WOW AMAZING PHOTOS ALL... Looks like it's coming along now....

Bottom line is this, whether your a fan or not of Avatar ( the Movie ) or even how it fits in at AK, It is going to bring in a lot more things to see and do, to a park that generally doesn't get a whole lot of love.....I personally LOVE this park, and hate when people want to skip it or 1/2 day it, but it's kind of exciting to wait & see what's around the corner... Sorta of like being a kid again on X Mas morning staring at all the gifts, and waiting for the parents to wake up so you can open them all....popcorn::

I have such a bad feeling about this. They've missed the boat on Avatar and I have this odd feeling that the next one is going to be a box office bomb. I'm excited for Avatar world but get the sense it too is going to be a bit of a bomb.

I understand your perspective, I'm not big on the first movie at all. I have faith that Disney would not have committed to such a huge investment if they weren't confident that the Avatar sequels would surpass the first by some measure. OTOH, there's Space Mountain...no big movie hit behind that.:earsboy:

I can't believe all the disliking of Avatar! I thought it was a well done movie. Visually beautiful. Yes it was sort of a retelling of a few stories but it was poingiant. It is also the highest grossing film of all time! (Not adjusted for inflation of course AND Star Wars TFA might surpass it soon!).

That being said I believe they will do a beautiful job. You won't have to like the movie to enjoy the new area.
