I See...Celebrity People (at WDW)

We saw Colin Mochrie from "Whose Line is it Anyway?" the Drew Carey other show.

Funny, I ran into him at DISNEYLAND years ago. It was on Main Street and hubby was in a store. I ran in to get him, but when we came back out he was gone...

We watch that show on ABC Family now almost every night. He is so funny.

We were there last year right after the Olympics and the first day we went and ate at ESPN club. While were eating a late lunch they filmed a spot for one of their shows an interview with some of the Olympic swimmers. Afterwards I asked if my ds & dd could get their pictures with Michale Phelps. I thought that it was the least that he could do considering that they told everyone in the room that we had to be quiet while they were taping. That is very difficult considering that I have very loud then 3 yr old. I had to get up and leave my meal so that I could take him out of the room. Maybe ds's voice was part of the broadcast... ;)

I will also be there for ESPN weekend. Hoping to see plenty of athlete celebs. Would love to get my picture with Mary Lou Retton. I did gymnastics growing up and I was 14 when she won the Olympic gold. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I guess we will see. :flower:

Thanks for the great posts. As I said, I'm not a Celeb chaser, but I've been lucky and seem to be able to spot them fairly frequently.

I saw a bunch at the Bonnet Creek Golf Courses. Bryant Gumble hosts an event there every year. The 1st year he hosted it, I didn't know and drove over hoping to get into a random foursome. They wouldn't let me play because of the Bryant Gumble thing. I hung around for a couple of minutes just to see who got out of some of the cars. I'm a huge sports fan (Pirates, Steelers, and Celtics) and saw immediately Rick Rhoden, Lynn Swann, Johnny Bench, and Gumble. But the piece de resistance (sp) was when Bill Russell, John Havlicek, and Joe DiMaggio all got out of the same limo dressed for golf.

My other sports celeb moment happened a couple of years ago. As I said, huge Steelers fan. We're all leaving the Circle of Life show at AK. I go out to get my son's stroller which has been moved, of course, into an orderly manner. I'm concentrating hard on the names to find mine (rented) and pass Smith, Jones, Liberman, Fleming (that's mine). Mr. "Liberman" grabs his and for some reason I look him in the face. He has a hat on, pulled down low, but there was no mistaking him, since I'd watched him for years. It was Rod Woodson...long time corner for Pitt. It was just a week after the Super Bowl which he had justed played in for the Oakland Raiders. He smiled as if saying, "OK, you got me!" He went over with his beautiful wife, kids, and Disney appointed chaperone and disappeared. That was cool.

A few years back I passed Regis Philbin as he was entering the Grand Floridian and I was leaving with my family! Exciting!

Also, saw Kelly Ripa, probably around the same time frame as the poster who saw her at AK. She was pushing a baby stroller and was coming out of the Boardwalk Villa elevator heading towards the pool area.

Then there was the year that we faced out to the main entrance at BWV and saw the ABC Soap Stars whenever they were coming and going. They used an exit right under our balcony, lol, and we all very friendly and chatty with us! We had no idea, and I was sure that some soap fans would have died and gone to heaven in this room, lol.

I've posted this before, but never on this board. Don't always post here, but in light of recent headlines thought this might be interesting. In the early 1990's (92/93?) we were saw Princess Diana and her sons. There were tons of security everywhere. We were at the GF trying to take the monorail over to MK and it was taking forever. Finally a CM told us that Diana was staying at the GF, had the whole top floor (of course!) and had taken up one whole monorail for her party so they were running late. Well, we finally made it to the MK and kept "bumping into them" all day. I say "bumping" in because really it was just glimpses, but it was funny because we seemed to be on the same schedule as they were! Fast forward years later. We were staying at OKW and had gone to dinner at the GF. My daughter and I started talking about the Princess and the Princes and how ever time we visited the GF we thought of them. We talked about how great it was that Diana wanted to give her boys the Disney experience just like the rest of us, etc. Later on that night when we got back to OKW my son ran into our room yelling to put on the TV, they were reporting on her tragic car accident. What a terrible thing. My husband's brother died in a tragic car accident too so you can imagine our feelings. The next day we went to Epcot and the whole place was unusually quiet. I really am happy that her beloved sons had such a wonderful mother, who, at least for a little while, gave them great memories. Sorry this is soo long, I never do this! If you have stayed with me, thanks for reading.

Back in November 2002, I saw the Wiggles in street clothes along with Captain Feathersword over near Italy in EPCOT.

We have seen the Candlelight Processional narrators at the Boardwalk (John Tesh, Jim Caveziel). We've seen numerous athletes around the ESPN club and the hosts of College Gameday. But the best we've ever seen...... take a look!!!

WOW!! Was he nice?

We sat next to Linda Dano of soap opera and QVC fame at CRT breakfast. I didn't know who she was but my wife was excited and she was a very nice lady. I felt bad for her because some imbecile at a neighboring table would not leave her alone to enjoy the breakfast with her grandchildren. :confused3

Unless people are where I expect to see them, I never recognize them. It's a blessing I think. The good news is that I've been told that I talk to celebs totally normally because I have no clue who they are.

While at BWV in early January, hubby and I are walking on the boardwalk and he elbows me and says "look, there's John Cleese."

We ended up seeing him again the next day at the entrance to Epcot. Neither time were we comfortable or together enough to ask for an autograph, and we were the only ones around, about 3 feet away from him. I thought about it and then thought that maybe he just might like his privacy.

Boy is he tall! He looks JUST like he does on TV and in the movies!

This is probably the only celebrity I have ever seen in my whole life.

Last October we saw Heidi from the Apprentice, although I am not sure if she is a celebrity...also saw professional golfers Nick Price and Tom Lehman at the Polynesian in Oct 03 they were in for the Funai classic.

Wayne Brady stalked us!

Really!

Well, kinda! Everywhere we went, there he was. Our friends got on Test Track, we were set to get in the next car when a CM comes out of a doorway across from the car and politely says we will be taking the next car. No problem; I start looking at the next car to pull up when DH says quietly to me, "It's Wayne Brady!". I knew he was doing the CP that night and sure enough, it was him and his wife. Now, I am not a celebrity follower, no autographs for me, blah, blah, blah, BUT what my reaction to this sighting was to bellow "I LOVE YOUR WORK MR.BRADY!!!" at him! He turned and smiled from his seat in "my car" and said "Thank you baby!" in a kind of Elvis way. My friend was appalled afterwards that I had not tried to buy his TT photo; it never occurred to me!

Next day, Animal Kingdom- Kilaminjaro Safari. As we are about to get in our ride vehicle, guess who is put in the front ahead of us? Wayne baby! This time I did not bellow but quietly said "I loved your reading last night." He smiled that sweet smile and thanked me. What a great guy.

Next thing I know our group is heading out of Africa and a short bathroom stop. Guess who is going in the men's room? Guess who asked her husband to take the camera in there? Guess whose husband told her to "bite me"?

BTW, DH is like a well trained bird dog in finding celebrities. I am oblivious and he looked at a crowd of over 200 people and said immediately "There's Mickey Rooney!". It was! That was during the 100 year celebration; the place was crawling with celebrities and I swear he pointed out every one of them!

Deesknee,

Roy was great! We were at MGM and saw Michael Eisner and Jeb Bush coming through the crowd. As they passed by, DH said "look there's Roy Disney". Everyone was just sort of ignoring him. He stood alongside the stage, with a small group. We approached and introduced ourselves and asked for a photo. He said he would be glad to and told us to give the camera to another man that was with him. The guy was on a cell phone and gave us the "hold-on-a-minute" hand gesture. Roy said to the man "these guests would like a picture" and gave a stern look. The guy looked over and said "call ya back" and hung up with out another word. It was great. He thanked us for coming and asked where we were from. After the photo we ran down to the camera shop at the MGM gates and paid a "Disney" price to get the photo developed. It was worth every penny and he was great!

This last December we saw Gary Sinese with his family at Epcot. I believe he was a Candlelight Processional reader around that time frame. He and his family stood around the Italian Pavillion for quite a while and no one came up to them. Either people didn't recognize him, or they didn't want to bother him. Finally, a cast member escorted them away.

We were there during the press event for Walt's 100th Birthday in December 2001. We saw lots of celebs. We saw a taping of Millioniare with Regis Philbin, the contestants were Olympic Stars including Mary Lou Retton, Bruce Jenner, Oscar DeLaHoya, Dan Jansen, Tai Babilonia. We also saw the taping of the Christmas Parade with Regis & Kelly (they were in the booth in Town Square). We saw Gilbert Godfried at the AK doing an interview, Marie Osmond at the Doll & Teddy Bear Show. Saw one of our local talk show hosts who was broadcasting from MGM and I ended up saying hello on the radio! Of all our trips, that one was the best. Crowds were very low (post 9/11), weather was perfect.

We saw Anthony Edwards and family on the boat from Epcot to the Resorts a couple years ago (Dr Greene - ER, also in Top Gun).

I love this thread! I was just thinking the other day I keep seeing all these celebrities in mags shot at WDW , how cool would that be to actually bump in to someone? This is proof it actually happens.
Ofcourse I haven't seen anyone but someone told us during our Dec VWL stay when we shared a bus with some GF guests that Johnny Damon from the Boston Red Sox was getting married the week we were there. Not sure if they were pulling our legs since my hubby had his Red Sox cap on and nine year old dd had just announced that she will be getting married at the Grand Floridian....Anyone else heard this rumor?

Johnny Damon got married on December 30, at Orlando's Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes Hotel. I know this because we were also at WDW at the time, staying at the GF and my 10 year old DD loves JD. She dressed up as him for halloween and when we saw the info on the TV, she wanted to go to the wedding. Needless to say, we didn't go. I'm sure we left home just before the invitation arrived.;)

So nice to know he still has some pull. lol Glad you had such a great experience. Thanks for sharing.

We have been going to WDW every January since 1999 and never saw a celebrity until this year. My husband saw Sinbad at the BWV porte cochere picking up his car at the valet on Jan 16th. On Jan 27th my husband went down to Seashore Sweets on the Boardwalk and saw Scottie Pippen.

I never saw either of them!

::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

We saw supermodel Paulina Porizkova at the Grand Floridian in the mid 90s :)

I'm certain I've seen two or three other celebs... grrr
