Never would have so readily picked up on it till reading here how many do it, but we met a couple in the VWL elevator who were stealing pool towels to take back to their room.

Isn't it amazing what we pick up on now that we have our DVC patrol eyes open: trash left in the hall, people stealing towels.......... .:earseek: :earseek:

And your point would be .... ???

Edited to add:

Ah!!! I see. You were being funny :). A couple of ";)" or ":)" would have helped :wave2:.

I've stolen a few extra pool towels before. With my 3 kids, I sometimes take an extra towel each so when we get to the room they sit on the towel instead of the furniture while we take turns showering. Don't really understand why you're suspicious of this "practice" (I'm sure there are other logical reasons out there). Could be a very innocent explanation. ::yes::

edited: Ahhh, you're being facetious, right? Just caught on about your reference to another post. Well, I'll leave my experience above anyway just for another point of view on using pool towels. :smooth:

Hi.

Oftentimes towels are borrowed from pool to room to avoid strollers getting wet and dripping on carpets etc. Most likely scenario is that the towels were returned. I guess we shouldn't assume the worst in people. Right?

msdis....Did you count the towels to make sure there weren't too many for the accommodation size they were staying in? :p

msdis,

You know that violates VWL city ordinance 501.14R, did you make a citizen's arrest or did they just get off with a warning?

(just kidding!)

What would be bad is if they had taken pool towels from a pool at a different resort back to VWL (pool-hopping, not DVC members). Now THAT would be bad!

before you know it there will be five in a studio....and people will be smoking cigars in non-smoking rooms.....alert the DVC police immediately!!!!;) ;)

The last time I checked into the BWV, I told them I wanted daily trash and towel service. The CM behind the desk asked my why? He then suggested that I could bring an extra few towels back from the pool to use in my room. I would imagine if I was told this, many others have been encouraged to do the same. I stuck with trash/towel.

Anyway, I'll bet they were renters.;) ;) ;)

Real DVC owners would never do that!;)

LOL! That would be "maintenance fee cost reduction" -- as long as it was a non-DVC resort! ;)

I hate to even mention it but I've thought about this for awhile -- do you think some of the real "cost cutters" out there come and use the DVC laundry facilities? With all the wild ideas out there, I expect to see it as a suggestion. I wonder how DVC could police that one?

Wait...it must have been me you saw.....

I thought that bringing towels home made great souveniers for everyone. My souvenier money now pays my DVC dues.;)

(I use to be able to pay dues from the savings of using my 3 year old refillable mug but than I got an addon and need more money for dues:p )

I have also thought about that. It is a real easy fix. They can put a room card reader on the door and you must have an active DVC room key to get in. Probably not worth the effort now but cheap to fix if needed.

PamOKW - I saw a thread on the budget board that mentioned using the "free" DVC laundry facilities. I almost fell off my chair when I saw that.

My suggestion was to put pass key locks on the laundry room doors that would only allow access to the DVC resort guest.

Your thoughts?

WAIT A SEC.,
You mean the laundry machines in the laundry rooms are free? We have never used them so I wouldn’t know. If that is the case, perhaps the people with the towels were just taking them upstairs to wash them. If they were members and just got their statement maybe they were trying help hold the cost down.

That explains it! When I got on the bus at AKL with 12 towels in my hand, the bus driver asked me where I was going. I told him back to the Magic Kingdom to pick up the launch to the VWL. He let out kind of a frustrated sigh....He must have been a DVC Towel Monitor and figured out that I was taking the pool towels back to my room!!!!

I just saw DVC Pool Towels for bid on Ebay!!!

Just another way to Ebay to Disney!!!

Actually, aren't OKW owners known for taking BWV towels back to OKW, in order to keep their dues down? ;) ;) ;)

Well, there goes my idea of having a towel animal business out of my villa whenever I'm there. Disney vacations ARE expensive.

I'm not sure about all resorts but I know the WL side of the resort has a guest laundry right across from the elevators past Roaring Forks so it's not just DVC.

What gets me is the bus thing. BW parking lot is full of cars without parking passes at 7:30 in the morning. Are the off siters that are "saving" money splurging on Spoodles for breakfast? When we were there last week, at VWL, we took the bus to AK. When we pulled in the driver announced that we were going to stop whatever and that you could look at the sign to tell you where to go for complementary rides for all guests, not resort guests, all guests, to anywhere on property.

Well, truth be told, the real reason they suspended pool hopping to SAB was because BWV was using it as their towel dispensary.

I'm sad, but not surprised, to hear the laundry idea is out there. Now we'll just have to wait for the suggestion of asking folks in the one-bedrooms to "run a load" for them. ;)
