Last night I got to go to the cast preview of the new castle show that's debuting tomorrow! For the most part- I really liked it. :) (Sorry, we weren't allowed to take pics.)

My overall impression of the show is that it's very beautiful. The costumes are gorgeous. There are appearances by Snow White and her prince, Aurora and Prince Philip, Aladdin and Jasmine, and Belle and her prince- yes, prince, not Beast! :) They all have new enhanced versions of their original costumes that are just beautiful. (Ariel and Eric are missing) Each couple is introduced one at a time by the Grand Duke as they do a little dance to one of their signature songs. We are all here to witness the coranation of Cinderella.

The dances are just lovely- a lot of pretty waltzing, great use of songs. They even use the lesser known title song of Cinderella! All I could think of was how much I wished I could get a high enough dance score to get trained for that show.

The new castle decor is almost finished, and it's a great touch. The stage has a brand new set that fits in with the new look of the castle. The set also holds some very neat special effects, but I'm not going to spoil then for you. :)

A few minor not as good things- Cinderella comes across like a Miss America winner. Her speech at the end has a great sentiment, but it's so corny!

While watching the show, I couldn't help but feel something was missing. You know what it is? Humor...there are a few amusing moments, but for the most part it's meant to be seen as regal and elegant. There are no fur characters...no Mickey, no Minnie, no Goofy, no chipmunks, therefore it's very straightforward. It lacks any of the zaniness of the previous show.

Little girls and princesses at heart will love it! However, I'm not so sure how popular it will be with the boys and the tomboys. I guess we shall have to wait and see.

wow, how great to have gotten to see the preview!!! Does this replace the current Cinderella show outside the caste?? I always loved that one, in part for the reasons you mentioned, seeing Mickey and Minnie and all the funny parts of the show. :(

Yes, this show is replacing Cinderella's Surprise Celebration, but they are telling us it will be back after the 50 years celebration ends.

What do you mean by this? Are there certain tests for certain shows or characters? Just curious, it is really interesting to me. Also, my 7 year old daughter dreams to be in one of the shows, she often says she would love to be in Beauty and the Beast at MGM when she gets older.

That sounds awesome for my princess... thanks!! princess:

hehehe, I wish I could tell you the pic in my sig was me, but no, that's Broadway actress Susan Egan as Belle.

Character performers use a system called color coding. They have color coding auditions every 2 months or so, but you only have to go once a year. There they teach you a dance routine and have you act something out non-verbally much like at a regular character audition. You are given a color ranking on movement (dance) and animation (acting). The colors are green, blue, yellow, red with red being the highest. You may also get coded for puppeteering if you choose. Once you have a score, you get a list of roles in shows and parades that you can submit interest in. The higher your score, the more things you can ask to learn.

At the moment, I have a score of blue-blue. I'm trained in Spectro and Stars 'n Motor Cars. I also have a blue for puppets and recently learned the turtle puppet for Voyage of the Little Mermaid. For Cinderellabration, I think you have to have at least a yellow in movement.

I think the dancers in B&TB are equity which means you must go to equity auditions, not character auditions. They also have to be pretty tall.

Disappointed at the lack of Ariel and Eric, but it sounds like a lovely show!! The only thing I can think of as far as the lack of "humor" is that it was imported from Japan, correct? Perhaps the more romantic style went over very well there, cuturally...

Also the voice of Meg, in Hercules!

angiebelle - is that a picture of you?

AngieBelle,

Thanks so much for the 'scoop' on the new castle show. Do you know when it starts showing to all guests ... for the May celebration or earlier? I think my DD will love it, but my DS6 would definately prefer the current one with Peter Pan and Hook!

Also, I loved hearing how character performers are rated and try out for certain types of parts. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for the picture of you... now we know how to identify you if we see you in Spectro or Stars 'n Motor Cars!!! Do you perform in either of those on a regular basis? We're going the last 2 weeks of April and we'll keep our eyes out for you.

Thanks, Karen

Thanks for telling us about this, AngieBelle! Yes, I think my boys won't be into this...but we'll make sure we see it once anyway. :)

Hi Angiebelle--someone posted on another thread asking if it would be a good show to see at night because of the lighting. What do you think? And about how long is the show?

Thanks for the dish!

AngieBelle, thank you for telling us a little bit about Cinderellabration! I can't wait to see it!

Thank you for sharing. There are more and more things for me to look forward to as each day goes by.
