Last night I got to go to the cast preview of the new castle show that's debuting tomorrow! For the most part- I really liked it.
(Sorry, we weren't allowed to take pics.)
My overall impression of the show is that it's very beautiful. The costumes are gorgeous. There are appearances by Snow White and her prince, Aurora and Prince Philip, Aladdin and Jasmine, and Belle and her prince- yes, prince, not Beast!
They all have new enhanced versions of their original costumes that are just beautiful. (Ariel and Eric are missing) Each couple is introduced one at a time by the Grand Duke as they do a little dance to one of their signature songs. We are all here to witness the coranation of Cinderella.
The dances are just lovely- a lot of pretty waltzing, great use of songs. They even use the lesser known title song of Cinderella! All I could think of was how much I wished I could get a high enough dance score to get trained for that show.
The new castle decor is almost finished, and it's a great touch. The stage has a brand new set that fits in with the new look of the castle. The set also holds some very neat special effects, but I'm not going to spoil then for you.
A few minor not as good things- Cinderella comes across like a Miss America winner. Her speech at the end has a great sentiment, but it's so corny!
While watching the show, I couldn't help but feel something was missing. You know what it is? Humor...there are a few amusing moments, but for the most part it's meant to be seen as regal and elegant. There are no fur characters...no Mickey, no Minnie, no Goofy, no chipmunks, therefore it's very straightforward. It lacks any of the zaniness of the previous show.
Little girls and princesses at heart will love it! However, I'm not so sure how popular it will be with the boys and the tomboys. I guess we shall have to wait and see.
