I saw a mom do the weirdest thing today

A little kid, maybe 2 years old and his mom were going rounds today.
He wanted to join the group of big kids who were playing around in a classroom, the only "fence" keeping him out was a tape line on the floor. So he kept walking up and down this line trying to get to the kids, his mom kept walking along in front of him blocking him. He'd dart this way, and she'd jump in front of him. He'd dart that way, and she'd get there first. Cute game you say? Well this went on for too long, maybe 20 minutes (with a few quick breaks to suck on his bottle ) and this kid was SO FRUSTRATED that he kept screaming (like SCREAMING!!) falling to the ground, crying and banging his head on the floor. A regular tantrum... the mom just laughed and kept doing it. WHY not enforce the rule that he cant cross the line? Why frustrate him over and over to the point of tears and encourage a tamtrum? Is this some funky new style? I thought it was weird and mean.

Maybe my memory of my kids at that age is fuzzy, but I'm thinking the mom probably only had 2 other options. One option would be to completely remove him from the temptation, which may or may not have been possible. The other option would be to sit on him.

Yeah, her getting a kick out of it was the weird/mean part. Had she been trying to keep him out by getting ahead of him WITHOUT the laughing at him when he was so frustrated it may not have seemed so weird. Poor kid was very very frustrated. I'd rather make him sit on a chair with a book than make him that PO'd. Actually, a mom with a kid that age MUST know about bringing snacks/toys/books etc on a trip, right?

ITA! I mean she's dealing with a 2 year old, and maybe she thought it was the best way to deal with her 2 year old. I don't really get why it's that mean?? I mean she told him he couldn't go over there, yet he chose not to listen and tried to get past? I don't know, she was probably doing what she thought was best at the time, and honestly as long as she wasn't hitting the kid or anything like that, then more power to her. All kids are different, and maybe she thought this was the best way to deal with it. I highly doubt that her first choice in life would be to play this "game" with a 2 year old.

She never once told him or redirected the kid. She just ran along with a smirk on her face, and she laughed at him. He knew his mommy was being mean and laughing at him. That sucks.
