One of my friends recently received a Roomba for Christmas and she is always raving about how much she likes it. It sounds very easy to use. If you have a I Robot Roomba vacuum, do you like it? Does it clean well?

Thanks! :)

Mine died at a year also--I bought another one and it died after a year also!!!!

I received a used one from a friend of ours that owns a vacuum cleaner store. he didn't want it.

they only pick up obvious crumbs but are not powerful enough to get a lot of the dirt.

the batteries will start to lose their charge after a while and again, they vacuum cannot be that powerful with a small battery system like that.

and my dog liked chasing it around the room and barking at it.

I finally gave it to a Charity.

Hated mine. Had it for about a month and then returned it to Costco. I didn't think it worked very well and it couldn't get between the legs of my chairs so I had to move all of the furniture all the time for it to get under the table. Not worth the $ in my eyes.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I love my Roomba, and have had it for nearly two years. I do use the "castles" that section of a room, so the vaccuum does a smaller space at a time. I have him do a different room every other night.

I should also say that both my cats and myself shed a lot, so I do have to clean his brushes after every cleaning.

I also have the Scooba and I'm less impressed with that. But considering I have him do the mopping instead of me, I really shouldn't complain. His dry cycle is too short I think, it may be a battery issue. The floors are left fairly damp, but I just go over it with a dry mop and everything is fine.

I got a Roomba for Christmas. I loved it so. :lovestruc
I used it in DS 5 room and it got a small lego stuck in it. It bent one of the brushes.
DH contacted the company and they are supposed to send us a replacement part.
I don't know if it is worth the $. I only got to use it a month.
We have hardwood throughout and I thought it did a really good job.

I'm in the minority, too, I guess. I've had mine for 3 years now and I love it. I got a model that cleans, spot cleans and has a max setting (never used that, though). We bought a docking station so when the roomba needs to charge, it docks itself now.

We have super thick carpet, vinyl kitchen floor and wood floor all on the mail floor. It does a great job on all 3 floor types. I have gone behind my roomba with my hoover dirt finder and it does not find dirt so I know it does a good job. The only draw back is that it does get stuck on my quarter round so I've learned where and I block those things off with toys (see, a 4 year old's toys come in handy!) and it doesn't get into corners well. Other than that, I would highly recommend getting one.

Love, love, love ours! DD1 named him Ramon the Roomba. We are on Ramon Jr. We got 2 years out of Ramon the First, but that was using him at least once a day and many times more. I estimate that we run Ramon Jr. 10 times a week.

I love my roomba! I've had it for a year and a half and haven't had any problems. The house is mostly wood floors and he does a great job overall!

We have the 550 and named her Rosie :lovestruc So far we've only had it 2 months, but overall I am pretty happy with it! We too have to move our chairs so it can get under the kitchen table, but that's not a big deal IMO. Otherwise we give it access to 3 very large rooms and lots of hallway and it navigates around pretty well and always finds it's dock to recharge. We haven't bothered with the virtual walls yet since it can go clean where ever it wants. We do notice some days it does better than others, and some it will completely miss the kitchen, but we'll just run it a 2nd time. We figure it's because it's doing a fairly large area (about 1600 sf) that it just didn't have enough umph to get everywhere.

The best part is I am not vacuuming every day and only do a good clean with the dyson every other week or so now. :thumbsup2

Lol at the names!! We thought ours was the only one with a name! "Berta" does ok. Not as good as the regular vaccuum but good for quick cleaning.

I didn't want to admit it, but my Roomba's name is Hazel. And the Scooba is Jacques. I even glued some googly eyes on them.

I've seen the YouTube with the cats riding on top of the Roomba, but mine just think its the enemy.

I have one of the cheaper ones...purchased it from Target on clearance about 2 years ago. I only expected it to "live" for a year but it keeps on trucking! It stopped once so I took everything apart and cleaned it and it started working again! We have a dog that sheds like crazy and this keeps me from having to vacuum every day. I try to run the Roomba every day and then pull out my regular vacuum cleaner once or twice a week. The Roomba is a lifesaver! I typically run it all over my first floor (except my kid's bedrooms...gosh only knows what they have on their floors) so that it includes living room, kitchen, dining area, halls and master bedroom. Sometimes I will keep in in just one area for a more concentrated effort. It is also helpful because it goes under my bed!!

I also have the scooba, like a previous poster mentioned...not so impressed with that one....but I still use it upon occasion.

We named ours Rosie the Robot too!

I've had mine for almost a year. We have 3 long haired cats and light cream colored carpet. I run mine pretty much everyday...do the living room and dining area one day, the kitchen, bathroom, laundry the next day, and the hallway and computer room the following day. That pretty much takes care of the downstairs, and I usually don't bother to take it upstairs. I really should though, since it would do a great job getting the dust bunnies that live under the beds.

Since we have 3 long haired cats, we have to clean the brushes every time it is used...which is a bit of a pain. You learn little tricks though, like using a toothpick to pull the hair off the brushes. However, cleaning the brushes is not as bad as running the big vacuum. My parents have the same model that I have (but no pets) and they only have to clean their brushes every month or so. (Theirs is named Buford.)

Don't expect it to work as well as a regular vacuum cleaner. We still run our regular vacuum once a week, to get the deep ground in dirt. The Roomba is more of a surface cleaner in my opinion.

Ours is called WALL-E. Does a wonderful job on carpet and tile floors. Turn him loose in a different room each day. Reason to get one? The Cat naps under the bed every day. Cats shed. Bedroom is wall-to-wall carpeted and my upright does not fit under the bed to clean there. No back or shoulder strain like I have with the upright.

Very pleased with WALL-E!

I got a Roomba at Kohls on sale with coupon for $40 once it was all said and done. I was cool with it for about a month then the novelty wore off. I have two young kids and found that I had to pick up anything larger than a pea off the floor or the roomba wouldn't pick it up, plus I had to baracade rooms and then it took over 1 hour to clean about 400 sq feet (kitchen, brkst, living). Lastly you had to dump, repair, etc after every use. Not worth the hassle. Now i just pick up toys, vacuum and in 15 minutes I'm done vacuuming the carpeted main rooms. Use a good old broom to sweep the kitchen floor and vacuum up the pile in about 5 minutes. The old fashion way works faster and easier for this household.

You all have really gotten me thinking about a roomba. I live in a beach town and wonder how it would do with a daily sand duty? If anyone is parting with theirs, or comes accross a great deal (like the $40 from kohls!!) I would LOVE to know about it!
TIA:goodvibes
