My ds's (11 & 7) choose King Kong as the Christmas movie redeemed on their gift cards. I really want to see it, but what's a mom to do .... we went. At the end I started to tear up. I couldn't beleive it!! On one hand I wanted to laugh - for cripes sake it's King Kong. The tears were there but I held them back. No way am I crying for King Kong !!! :rotfl:

I admit it. I cried. Our whole family really enjoyed that movie.

the only movie a man could cry at is Brians Song

Good movie but I didn't cry. I was to busy yelling at her not to climb that ladder :earseek: .

I cried. DS (7 1/2) cried and said it was "cruel" when Kong was being taken down on the island. DD#2 (10) and DH did not cry; DH said the whole movie sucked. DD#1 would have cried but she was home sick. I think the sensitive gene skipped DD#2.
BTW I didn't watch a second of the whole thing with the giant bugs from the first moment I caught a glimpse--DS and I kept our faces hidden until DH told us that part was over. The movie was ok but some scenes dragged on for a loooooong time--I think more editing would have been a bonus.

I did not cry. I liked the movie, but I wasn't crazy about it. Let me start by saying that I am a big Peter Jackson fan, but I think he go carried away with the CGI thing and left some pretty big holes in the plot. IMHO the scene with the T-Rexs and Kong in the jungle went on too long. I didn't like the bug thing, but that was because I don't like bugs. I was disappointed that there was no wrap up about the ship's crew or how he got Kong back to NY. I also thought Jack Black's response at the end didn't work. How many times did we have to see that same look on his face? I thought he should have had more emotion over the fact that Kong had escaped, was killing people and the fact that Jack Black's character's career was basically over. On the other-hand, the CGI was very good. I thought the acting was good for the most part. I did have to get up twice during the movie to visit the restroom. I'm getting to old for these long movies!

If you want to cry, see "The Family Stone". Wow. That was real tear-jerker!

I saw this movie w/my brother yesterday at Downtown Disney -- he said it was a little far-fetched (I just looked at him - it was King Kong - of course, it was far-fetched). I couldn't watch the bugs (my rascals are going to love that scene (ugh), and just blocked the screen until it was over. I liked Ann's interaction with the ape -- braver women than those filmed back in the 30's. I didn't cry, but I did tear up a bit. I thought some of the scenes were just a bit long, too, but overall, it was a good movie for pure entertainment & fluff - in an adventure sort of way.

You are so right about Jack Black at the end of the movie. I guess they had to have someone say the line, but it would have to been truer to say that Black's character killed the beast.

OH I CRIED! But I think mainly because I work at a zoo and TRULY know what gorillas are really like. They nailed a lot of a gorilla's character traits in Kong to a "T". I could have done without the bug scene, but about 1/3 of the way through the scene I'd had enough. :guilty: I told DH to let me know when it was done.
I was over Carl Denham (Jack Black's character)....how selfish he was....all for the money. And I agree with another poster...beauty didn't kill the beast.....HE DID!
I did LOVE the movie though! :teeth:

But that was the whole point of the movie! It was Jack Black's greed that caused many deaths but he thought that providing entertainment, for the price of admission, was noble. He was a paparazzi!

Andy Sirkus did an amazing job as Kong. The technology used for Kong and Gollum provides an amazing reality.

I liked it. I didn't cry, but I liked it. The cgi was beautiful. But it was too much. The movie seemed to be about pretty effects. and the plot was kinda left on the boat to the island. I agree that the dino scene went on too long. The bugs were a nice touch, and they were needed to reintroduce the boat's crew. I've said it once, I'll say it again. Jack Black was the WRONG actor for that movie. I don't mean to type cast, but he seems fit to more of a light hearted movie. Like School Of Rock. I know he's done darker movies before, but he just isn't good at them. He has a limited emotional scale when reacting to whats around him. And thats working against him.

Andy Sirkus is a great actor. He was amazing as Kong. I was so glad they also let him play Lumpy the ship crew member. It is nice to actually get to see his face on screen as well. I didn't like the way he died, however. Yuck!

He asked to die a very gruesome death and Peter Jackson complied.

I didn't cry, I was too busy thinking about my friend who got a bloody nose right at the end of the movie and none of us had tissue or napkins or any thing. As kong was falling my friend was pinching his nose tilting his head back trying not to miss the end of the movie or get blood everywhere.
