I'm so excited that I finally received the name and wish list from Operation Military Pride. I would like to tell the girls about our Female Soldier so they can get a better understanding about what she does and where's she at. But, I don't know what these things mean. Can someone please tell me what:

What SPC stands for AND
She's located at the TF 40th Sig Battalion at Camp Arif Jan-Ku. Can someone tell me what branch of the Armed Forces she's with, what she may do and where Camp Arif Jan-Ku is located.

Thanks so much!!!! :teeth:

BUMP- just wanting someone much wiser than I to read this and hopefully be able to help.

Thanks jamsmom!!

I know someone here will be able help me!!!! The Disers always pull through!!! :teeth:

She is with the Army. SPC is her rank, Specialist. This is the fourth of nine enlisted ranks in the Army, right below Sergeant.

TF most likely stands for Task Force, which is a group of units put together for a specific mission or purpose. Sig is short for signals, which means she is in a communications battalion. This unit would be responsible for maintaining communications between larger units such as Divisions and Corps. Here's a link showing some of her units history and it's Crest.

Hi Grog!!!!!

I can't thank you enough for this information and the links!!! It really helps!! I can't wait to check the links out!! Now all I need to do is find out where Camp Arif Jan-Ku is. Thanks again!! Christine and the Brownies of Troop 1376!!! :teeth:

Sncbird: I too have a female from that camp that my dd's Girl Scout troop adopted! :) Now I know a little more about her too.

Hey DaisyDebbie,

We're a 1st grade Brownie Troop. I'm sure you know how many questions 6 & 7 year old girls can come up with!! I'm still trying to find out where Camp Arif Jan-Ku is  . This is a great Service Unit Project!!! The girls are really excited to help out!!

Just as a thought too -- depending on where she is stationed.
ON another board a woman is sending supplies to her daughter in the middle east. Their sanitary needs are limited. Her daughter was asking for products from Bath and Body Works. She said with the heat they are beginning to stink. ;) :jester:

How could I adopt a Female Soldier for my girls without a Trip to Bath and Body Works for her!!! LOL!!! Of course, I may have to buy myself a few things while I'm there!! :smooth:

I'm still trying to find out where Camp Arif Jan-Ku is. Does anyone know?

One of the things I saw on a military mailing web site was you could put in their APO and find out where it was located. Do you have that? I know I have the link to look them up at home...

Here's what they gave me: APO AE 09366
If you could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it :)

The mystery is solved!! APO 09366 is in Kuwait!!! Thank you everyone for your help :)

Is there a link to search for information on an FPO address. It is very interesting to find out where they are.

Jeff

I have tried searching a few different way. This is what worked for me: I went to Yahoo and put in APO 09366 and it linked me with all kinds of articles. Hopefully that will work for you.

sncbird, I found out something else interesting about this units history (in case you can't tell, I love doing this kind of research :D ). Prior to the Army being desegregated in 1948, the 40th Signals Bn was primarily an African-American unit. Here's a link to that particular part of it's history.

Yet another 40th Sig link

On a personal note, I found it interesting that the Bn was disbanded after WW2 at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. I was at Camp Gruber just last month for a living history event. Small world I guess.

Thanks Grog!!! I really appreciate all your help in this!!! I can't thank you enough!! Your links have been a wealth of information!! I'm putting together a sheet for the girls to take home so they can share all the information on our Adoptive Female Soldier. It is very interesting to read about the history of this Battalion. I ironically enough, also have adopted a Male Soldier from the TF 40th SIG BATTALION in CAMP ARIFJAN-KU. Thanks Again!!!
Christine :)
