This morning I got up - stepped on the scale and hit a major milestone - 50 pounds GONE! :yay: :dance3:

So - I have been wanting the Sigma 10-20 mm lens for sooooo long - like a year. I just couldn't bring myself to part with the $$. Then I told myself - when I got to that 50 pound weight loss mark - I would order it. And I just did!!!! :goodvibes

My youngest daughters 15th b-day is also coming up - May 9th and she wanted a new camera. She destroyed her old one - and I will not spend a lot of money on another digital camera for her. She has a tendency to go through them like she does cell phones :scared1: .

But I did order her this one -
http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=E1CNPSA470R

I researched a few different models and finally decided on that one. The price was right and she doesn't care at all if it has more bells and whistles. She just wants something small she can take photos of her friends for her and their myspace pages with.

Does anyone else have this camera? How has it been? Think it is a decent choice for a 15 yr old who has a tendency to drop electronics in bodies of water (pool, hot tub, and even the toilet - don't ask :sad2: )?

Now I can't wait to get my new lens. Hmmmm ... wonder what I can reward myself with when I get the remaining pounds off.

 New camera body - to go with MY new body??? ;)

Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment. Funny that you're getting a wide angle lens to celebrate being narrower. :lmao:

I was kind of torn between the Sigma 10-20 and the Tokina 12-24. Leaning toward the Tokina, partly because of the smaller gap between that and my 28-75. But I do see lots of lovely landscape shots taken with that Sigma on a certain other photography board.

Enjoy the new lens and your new self!

LOLOL I hadn't even thought of that. I did mention the new camera body to DH. He somehow managed to keep a straight face when he looked at me and said..

"ya know - it won't be like you got a whole new body - you are just refurbishing the one you got. how about if i take your current camera body - and get it refurbished - you know, cleaned, painted a new color - stuff like that".

.... didn't go over too well. He is sooooo lucky he was just joking - at least he better be. ;)

CONGRATS JEN! That is AWESOME! :cool1: Good going. You have worked very hard for that lens.

Congratulations, Jen!!! That's a terrific accomplishment and I think the reward is fitting. I love irony. Can't wait to see the awesome photos you pull off with the new lens. :)

Congratulations Jen- a superb lens for a fine accomplishment. :thumbsup2

congrats jen...way to go! however i am now going to forever have an image of a camera bobbing around :dance3: in a toilet (closest "swirling" smilie i found)

LOLOL - she actually dropped the cell phone in the toilet. LOL

first it was the swimming pool - then the hot tub - and last summer - the toilet. That time she had to work off the 50.00 it cost to replace it. Now we never get anything for her without a really good warranty. She is on her
3rd mint chocolate cell phone.

she "says" it just fell in when she reached for a towel - yup - that is what she says all right. :sad2:

That's incredible! I'm very impressed.

I dropped 20 pounds and it was a miserable effort. Everyone kept telling me how great I would feel. Well, at this point I can definitely say that I liked the fat, lazy, happy Mark better than the trim, hungry, cranky Mark. I only dropped the weight because my doctor was making death threats. I've still got another 15 pounds to lose, but I'm not as motivated now that I'm not in immediate danger of posing for my final photograph. Of course, I do have that pesky race coming up next year.

I suggest that you buy 50 pounds worth of camera gear to balance it out. Let's see now, that's 12 pounds for the 600mm f/4, 12 pounds for the 400 f/2.8, probably another 12 pounds for the 800mm f/5.6, throw in one more 400 f/2.8 for me to borrow and you should be all set. Oh wait, there's an extra two pounds left over. Have some cake.

When I bought my son a camera, I was so concerned about the potential for him to swim with it that I bought him a waterproof camera (Pentax W30).

:lmao: thanks Mark - that REALLY did make me laugh out loud.

It hasn't been easy nor has it been fast - but very well worth it. The past couple of weeks I have surprised myself - I am jogging now. Never once thought it would happen.. but not only am I jogging - but I am enjoying it - well enjoying it when my shins are not killing me, my feet are not killing me, my knees and hips are not killing me. No really - I am enjoying it. ;)

I understand about the health reasons. I was born with a congenital heart defect - both of my parents died of cancer when I was a teen and right now I am watching my older sister deal with fibromyalgia, adult onset diabetes, and congestive heart failure. The new camera gear is great incentive -but being around to watch my girls finish growing up is an even greater incentive.

Good for you with that 20 pounds. It's not easy - it is a daily battle - but as long as ya don't give up you can do it. AND - you will have more energy and stamina to run from those security gaurds at Epcot next time they detain you for questioning. ;)

Congrats, Jen,

Celebrate with a Dole Whip! (Just kidding!;) ) I'm going to blame that one on Pea-n-Me, since she posted her photo on the weekly contest thread!:lmao:

Those are very good reasons for losing the weight! :woohoo: Congratulations!!!:cheer2: :yay:
It's very tough and a daily battle for me too. I have similar reasons as you to constantly have to diet and monitor my weight and man, it's a drag! I resigned myself to the fact that due to genetics, I would have to be on a diet the rest of my life or else. It sucks when eveyone else around you is eating chocalate cake and ice cream, and you can only have an unsweetened ice tea! Good for you on losing the weight! Your hubby's remarks sounded like my DH! :rotfl:

Take it up a notch. Sign up for the Disney Marathon in January. I'm going to try it. They have a half on Saturday and a full on Sunday. I don't have a prayer of finishing, but I'm going to give it a try. I'm just trying to figure out how many lenses I want to carry during the race. I don't think I'll need a tripod.

My wife recently hit her 20lb goal and we had to go out this past weekend and buy her a whole new wardrobe because her old clothes didn't fit anymore.

Are you saying that I also have to go out and buy her another "milestone reward"? :confused3 Looks like the thinner she gets, the thinner my wallet gets too. :rotfl:

LOL Are you training for it yet - carrying all that gear?

That is so cool Mark - how long is the marathon? I am really hoping my shins will allow me to keep pushing myself to go a bit faster and longer. Right now I am up to jsut over 2.5 miles but - slowly. I walk the first half mile to warm up and jog the rest. Takes me 45 minutes to get that far - like I said - I am not known for speed. ;) My short lil legs can only go so fast before those shin splints kick in and they hurt - bad.

Locally we have a 5K in November and I really want to do that. I have no grand illusions of coming in anywhere near the top. I just want to finish it and NOT be crawling over the finish line. Kind of a personal goal that would mean a lot to me.

Good luck with the marathon. I really wish you the best and I think that is so cool that you are doing that. :thumbsup2

 You and my husband should talk! LOL I am going through the same thing. My clothes from last summer are not fitting me so I am slowly getting a little bit here and there. My jeans make me look like I have saggy behind disease - but I am just tightening the belt and making due for now - I won't be wearing them for much longer - it will be too warm.

Tell your wife I said congratulations. That first 20 pounds feels soooooo good. :thumbsup2

Jen you asked "how long is the marathon?"

A marathon is 26.2 miles. My husband has done about 6 of them... i think this past one was his last. Congrats on losing the weight. Me and some girls i work with are doing our own "Biggest Loser" and i have lost 10 lbs. in 4 weeks. We are going until June 6th. Its a hard adjustment... but its all worth it in the end, especially if you get camera supplies out of it!!! :cool1:

:scared1: WOW! I am only 23.5 miles from completing that! :lmao: That is just amazing. Kudos to anyone and everyone who can even come close to doing that. :worship:
