I'll be so glad when quitting smoking goes from being a minute-to-minute thing to an hour-to-hour thing to a day-to-day thing...then weeks, then months, then years...

In the whole scheme of things...IT'S JUST A CIGARETTE!! (I'm going to repeat that a million times today.)

:scared:

Have a great day everyone!!

Good luck! :thumbsup2 Keep us posted everyday to see how well you're holding up. I hope you quite forever. Good for you!

I remember those first days...every time I wanted a smake I would scrub my floor, by hand. I had the cleanest floor in town!!!! Good luck....it is hard but so worth it!!!

Just wanted to say Good Luck!!!! I quit when I found out I was pregnant 5 and a half years ago so I know how hard it can be. Just remember you're doing something wonderful for your body! Barbara

GOOD GOING..........I quit 20 years ago and it ws the hardest thing I ever did.....so keep up the good work and keep saying your words.......you can do this ...YES I CAN>......

Don't give in, you can do it! I smoked for 15 years, I am now smoke-free for the past 7 1/2 years. Stick to it! :thumbsup2

Good Luck!

DH quite almost 6 years ago. He got really sick and just didn't want one. He started to feel better, but then got pneumonia. He was told if he tried to smoke again, he would be in ICU. It was hard for him, but he got through it.

Good for you!!! I quit smoking in 2002 and have never regretted it. Remember, when it gets bad, think to yourself that you are now a NON SMOKER.. and why would you want to smoke again??? Also, I used to tell myself over and over that no matter how stressful an event was (because that was always when I wanted to start back) that after I smoke one, the stressful event would still be there, and I would be addicted to cigarettes again, so that would make it two stressful events!!

Also, I use to carry this around with me:

* In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
* In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
* In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
* In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
* In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
* In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
* In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
* In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
* In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
* In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Awesome! You'll be so happy you did this for yourself in a few months -- in the meantime, hang in there! It DOES get easier! :cool1:

Thanks for the support!

I've made sure that my coworkers know that if they see me pacing the hall that I'm walking instead of smoking...I don't necessarily like the idea of replacing one habit with another, but at least walking the hall is much healthier!!

The best thing you can do is change your routines that revolved around smoking. It helps alot!

I quit a year ago last Sept.15 th. I smoked for over 30 years. I just said .."that's it...I quit" .. I never looked back and haven't touched one since.

I was lucky.....it wasn't hard for me. I believe you have to REALLY want to quit before you can do it...Good luck to you. Your LIFE will thank you... :thumbsup2

You are giving yourself the very best gift possible and I wish you the best of luck :shamrock: sweetie :goodvibes.

I never smoked, but know the difficult challenge many have quitting. Breaks my heart, lost my dear Dad to throat/esoph cancer possibly due to smoking, and my dear 50yo DBro insists on smoking, even after he has COPD and has had a heart attack :worried: . Sorry, but with the current knowledge and warnings, I don't get why people jeopardize their health? :guilty:

Congratulations!

When I quite after 10 years (this was back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth:rolleyes: ), I always kept this picture with me for inspiration, to help me through the tough times. It was the stages a smoker's lungs goes through after quitting, from unhealthy when you first quit, to perfectly healthy, with no elevated risk for disease a few years later.
