Has anyone bought any electrical goods back from the US! My daughter is thinking of buying a 'nano' i-pod when we go but i was wondering if the charger etc. would work over here ??? :confused3

Any comments appreciated - Thanks.

My UK friends buy tons of electronics here. The iPod will charge fine in the UK, but you will, of course, need a US two prong to UK three prong adapter. No transformer required.

If the Nano is like the mini you just use your computer to charge it. You can buy a charger that plugs into the mains for about £19.99 and I am pretty sure it will be compatible with the Nano. The best place to check is on the Apple UK site because it lists which IPods are compatible with which accessories.

From what I have read on other threads lots of people have bought IPods and they work fine over here.

I'm almost certain the I-pod bought in the US is the exact same thing as one you buy here. The Ipod Mini doesn't come with a charger anyway - it just charges via a USB cable from the computer, but I bought a charger for it to take on holiday, and it has UK, Europe and US pin plugs that attach to it, and I've used all of them without any problem. There have been previous threads about where is the best place to buy Ipods, and although the concensus tends to be they are not really any cheaper in the US, people who have bought them there say that they work fine here.

I just bought an ipod nano at dixons for 139.99 never crossed my mind to wait lol!

it is brilliant though, the sounds crystal clear and its so tiny!! cant wait to sit on the the plane listening to it lol while dbf watches tv

Would think Virgin DTD is probably the most expensive place to buy one from.

Try Circuit City or similar or indeed there is a Mac store in mall at Millenia that were doing specials last time we were there.

Hi,
Best price I've seen in this country is £137.99 for the 2GB model although there may postage to pay.
Ipod nano UK

Best USA price I've seen is at BestBuy $199.99 for the 2GB model

The bestb place to buy an Ipod is at the Apple shop at the Premium Outlet Mall where you can buy asll forms of iPods and chargers, and multi country adaptor packs.
This Jan we bought a 60GB Photo version with all the adaptors and cables etc for around £200
For an idea of prices, see teget and best buy web sites

Are you sure it is at this Mall, I didn't see one there. I know there is one at the Millennia and one is being built at the Florida Mall.

No, you are right, just dug out the receipt, Apple Store Millennia, tel 407-352-5551

Price was off as well!
60Gb iPod photo, $599

Well that is a relief, I would have hated to know I had missed it. I wanted to get to the Millennia but we were too busy, I would have liked to visit the Apple store.

DH has discovered the joys of jukebox listening after using my old Creative Zen on the flights this year. He is after an IPod now, after hearing the rest of us go on about them. I hope to get him a Nano, though DS17 will have serious gadget envy. :rotfl:

The ipod Nano is cool but so tiny. DD wants one for christmas but I would be wooried that at that size and weight it could easily get lost. Plus my 20GB ipod feels a lot more robust.

The Nano will be what all the kids want, whether it is more robust or not. Part of its attraction is the smallest of it plus it offering flash memory instead of a hard drive.

I know my DS17 wanted to sell his 2 and a half month old mini IPod as soon as he clapped eyes on the Nano. I dare not look at it myself because I would probably want to do the same. :)

I don't think the kids are that interested in 20 GB or above jukeboxes. This will partly be because a lot of them just don't have the cd collections to fit it. I have a 30 GB Creative Zen which I am still filling up after nearly two years. I like it because it stores the majority of my cd collection but I like my IPod mini because I only store favourite songs on it. The Zen I use now with my home cinema kit to have a jukebox in the lounge, the IPod is my portable player.

Hi-i have a creative zen micro which i wouldnt swop for the world but my daughter(aged 10)wants an ipod nano for her b/day.
Does anyone know if you can use windows media to put the songs onto an ipod or does it have to be the i-tunes that apple run.
Many thanks in advance.

No it doesn't work with WMA files, just its own format and mp3s.

It is extremely easy to put songs on to it and extremely fast. I honestly would not let the fact it doesn't do WMA files put you off. I used the WMA and media player to put files on to my Creative Zen 30 GB, ITunes is a lot easier to use and faster.

Dumb question coming, do you have to download from the internet, or can you use your own cds, and transfer via PC.

How much does it cost to download.

You can use your own CDs or download from iTunes (about 79p per song).
