I know nothing about ipads. I don't have a store very close, so I'm reaching out to all of you. Once you buy one then you have to have a carrier for the internet service if I'm not in a wifi place? How much is that? I'm wanting the ipad for the many appts we have, for entertaining the kids, to keep my calander and manage family life while I'm at kids activites, movie watching.

So, what can you tell me about ipads?:confused3

I pay Verizon $30 a month for my IPad plan. I don't have WiFi at home either.

I absolutely love mine!!! Use it all the time! I only have wifi. It is all I needed because I use it mainly at home. I have my iPhone 5 with me when I'm out and about. We also bought one a year ago for our grandson and he uses it every single day. I put a lot of educational apps(he's 5) but also games and Disney movies on it. His is wifi only but he's too young to need to be online!! If you get the one with cell capability you will need a plan. Maybe you could just add it on your cell phone plan? You will love it!!

Our iPad doesn't have 3G capability. We have our phones if we need that while we are out and there is no wifi. I have all the games, movies, calendar, etc. on it. I think that the service from AT&T was reasonable on a monthly basis and no contract-just month to month. That may have changed.

just trying to figure the cheap way of doing this - got 2 laptops & desktop at home with wifi there - parks & resort have wifi - rest stops have wifi while traveling - would that work?? or do I really need an Ipad

Is the Disney app available for Android? Do you have a phone that you can download the Disney app to? We will just use our phones in the parks with the app next time we go.

I have a flip phone - I don't want a smart phone - the guy at the phone store would insist that I get the data plan - I kinda want a bigger screen than phones have

the Google Play button on the My Experince - Get the moblie app has a My Android app tab - I"m going to assume that is the download (since I don't have a table I haven't install so not really sure - thought there was a link for android the last time I looked in the get the moble app tab)

just trying to figure this stuff out

I just added it to my Kindle Fire to see if it works the same as my smart phone. We have been playing around with it on my phone since it was released. Fastpass+ is throwing our normal touring plans for a loop!

Neither would I. Too large and bulky and I would worry sick that I would lose it, or ruin it somehow.

I have an iphone and use that.

BTW: My son has an iphone without a data plan as he has a pay as you go service. He only gets wifi.

Dawn

I would not want to walk around Disney with any kind of a tablet or ipad!

Op, just want to say, glad you're thinking iPad. It's been the greatest thing for me to do what I'd regualarly do on the computer, around my kids, and not have them think(and the actting up because of that) that mom is always on the computer!
(I do work at home from my computer)

For me, an iPad has made me much more 'present'.
I've had it about a year, but am learning good stuff still by reading the 'For Dummies' type books.

I got DH one for Father's day and DD (married with a toddler) one for Christmas. In our case, I did get the ones you can get your own internet access, not just wifi - I just liked the flexibility (runs $100 more over just wifi). It is a very personal choice you can use your iphone to go "through" your IPAD if you want to avoid using a public wifi - but that seemed like a pain to me. If you will avoid accessing anything remotely personal - including your email - in public - you would probably be okay with just public wifi. Keep in mind you can purchase your own connection by month - at least with Verizon. If you buy a 3G or 4G - you purchase one specific to your phone carrier. My hubby and daughter loves theirs and my grandson has great time with mom's IPAD.

Dd is the real computer Internet person. She has one with 3G wiFi. As she cyber schools it is nice to have her school books on it. Not the schools purchase, income tax last year.

I use one for work. Some of the aps, a scanner for police reports or documents, voice recorder for statements, video, photos to the office.

But with my cataract and eye sight it is frustrating with a mind of its own when the auto or react. See that , I put auto correct.....I can see the virtual key board but the sensitivity and auto insertion of words is crazy when its too tiny to read. I can't tell if a word has all the letters, a period entered, or even if it inserted the correct word. Thank goodness I have the desk top for reports. Love my keyboard with real keys and big monitor!

But, I am sure someone younger or better eyes is good. Love playing with Siri.
We don't travel without one with 3G, I only pay the $20 at a time we are traveling, not self renewing. For the extra, $100, I found it was worth it if you travel a lot.

we got the ipad a year ago and got the 3g version since at the time we did not have wifi access either(now do) and have Verizon service, we only pay $20 a month and can order each month or skip a month... I did learn that if you buy with Verizon installed it has to stay Verizon (thank heavens it worked although apple store person said they would just give you another if didn't work) or get with ATT and not sure how much that cost but could just be reprogramed? to Verizon. works like a charm and we still us the 3g part for trips, worked all the way down to Disney in the car last March...
As for people who want a cell phone I had a flip phone Tracfone and just got a Samsung 390(I think) that has free wifi and 3 g and love it...it has Triple Minutes for life too...I have not used it at Disney yet tho.

I have a shared data plan through AT&T, with this service I can turn on the personal hotspot on my iphone and pick up wireless Internet from my phone at no extra charge.
It's important that you have a large enough data plan to cover what you would use with your iPad. I also considered purchasing the iPad with cellular Internet. I''m glad I didn't spend the extra money - it wasn't necessary.
