Got a free 1GB SD card with it and I bought an extra battery for 14 bucks. The camera itself was about 450. Sometime after I finally get a 1080p projector for my house I think I'll look at the HD camcorders. Again I think I'll get Canon. Sony won't get another dime from me till their management is in jail.

The only thing I dislike about Canon is the roproetary battery. They take GREAT pictures though.

And actually the proprietary battery is one of the very things I miss terribly with my new Canon S3. I could charge up my 2 sets of batteries and go for two long weeks of continuous photo taking on trips and never run 'dry' with my Canon G5.

FWIW - Even though I enjoy some of the features of my S3 I found myself going back to the old G5 more and more. I am seriously considering replacing it in a year or two with the G9 (when the price comes down).

Let us know how you like your G9 and share your pics please!!!!!

I have the G9 and love it, it is better than the S3IS that I had.
I have just compared the RAW to JPEG and the RAW did look better though I should I think set the white balance instead of using auto mode

The G9 seems like a nice camera, but I just do not see the point of a camera like it anymore when you can get a DSLR for less. What was your motivation for buying it?

I own a DSLR and am very tempted on buying the G9, for those days when I do not want to carry a huge SLR but still do not want to sacrifice too much control.

Although I do see your point about price, I am also considering just putting that money towards a lens instead. Maybe if it was under $300 the choice would be easier, but when it is close to $500 not so much.

Also, considering that the S series is nearly as capable as the G9 and has much more focal length, I just feel like the G's market segment has nearly vanished. I had a S1 that was replaced on the sensor recall with a S2. They are both very capable cameras with good lighting and I sometimes do carry the S2 instead of the K100D. The only thing I believe that the G9 has over the S series is RAW and possibly a very slight edge on noise.

One I wanted something physically smaller than a full on DSLR. Especially at Disney where I would probably be carrying a MiniDV camera also. I also wanted something that would do higher ISO than my Sony DSC P150. It will shoot RAW format which is nice in a camera that small. I like the fact that I can get a waterproof case and add lenses if I ever need it. Also I wanted to get something that WASN'T a Sony. Basically it had alot of the features I would use from a DSLR but without the size.

You'll definitely have to post and let everyone know how much you like the G9. I've been toying with the idea of picking one up. I have an entire stable full of DSLR gear but there are times when I am scouting a location or happen to be out on my bike that I don't want to lug around a gear bag or an SLR. I want something that I can slide into my pocket and get a few shots. The G9 is really intriguing in the fact that it shoots RAW. I shoot nothing but RAW so finding a point and shoot that I can use the same workflow with is definitely a plus in my book.
