Ok, I thought I had the banking/borrowing thing down pat. I've managed to get a couple of college degrees, hold down a decent job or two for most of my adult life (had to retire early thanks to my company downsizing - not what I wanted, but we're getting by). I thought I could manage to figure out how to do this, but apparently, I'm not intellegent enough to pull this off! Can one of you folks who is wiser than I please help me figure out how I need to do this? :confused3 This is long, so please bear with me.

DH and I want to go on the DVC member's cruise in 2011. We've never been on a cruise, and we only have 100 points per year. This seemed like it would be a fun way for us to cruise, it will be on the Dream, and we have time to save up enough points since we weren't planning on vacationing until then anyway. He really wants to go on a cruise. pirate: I really don't want to lose any points.

We have an August UY. We have 16 points banked from 2009. All 100 points from 2010 are unused. From what I've been able to find out on the boards, it looks like they do the reservation day for the cruise in November (2010) for the Sept. 18-11, 2011 cruise. So, by what date do I need to bank 2010's points? April 1st, 2011 right? And then I would need to use them between August 1, 2011 and August 1, 2012, wouldn't I?

I have gotten myself so confused! So for our cruise, I would be using points from the 2010 UY (100), 2011 (100), and then borrow from 2012 (100)?

Somebody please tell me if I've figured this out. My mom passed away a couple of months ago, and between that and losing my job, I actually lost my Disney focus for the first time in several years. I'm back, but clearly things just about got out of hand!

HELP!!!!!

I really was confused. I had to go back and edit this post because I was grossly wrong the first time I tried to explain it. I think I have it right this time...

We are trying to do the same math for the members cruise. It is really confusing to me too. There is no way to have 4 years worth of points to use as far as I can figure. As for the 16 points personally I would try to rent them due to they are not enough for more than a couple of days in a standard without borrowing from your other points which would defeat your purpose.

I'm VERY new to DVC, but I can tell you what I "think" I had to do (well MS did) when I booked my Dream July 2011 cruise.

I used unsued 09, all 10 and all 11 points.

For my 09 points, while I was on the phone with MS booking the cruise,
they took the 09 points and banked them into 10.
So, you would bank your 09 points to 10 BUT you would need to use your 2009 points by, I THINK, Augsut 31, 2011 (you want to use by September so not sure you can really do that but there are others here that will be able to tell us if I am not correct).
You will then use your 10 points (with your 16 2009 points) and 2011 points.
I have a September UY and I thought I was able to borrow my 2011 since I was using before my UY (cruise is in July 2011) but REALLY not sure.
I am not sure you could borrow from 2012 if you have an August UY and booking for September BUT like I said I am very new to the booking and borrowing.
I look forward for someone to tell me what you need to do and exactly what I did :rotfl2: since it will help me better understand.

I believe that the points available for cruising are the same as booking resorts (someone will correct me if I am wrong).

If you travel in Sept, 2011, with an Aug UY, you are traveling in your Aug 2011 UY. That means you can use banked 2010 points, 2011 points and borrowed 2012 points to pay for that cruise. Since you have a 100 point contract, you would have up to 300 points to use.

When you call in November 2010 to book, you would have to tell them to first bank the 2010 points into your 2011 UY so they are eligible for the cruise.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anyway that your 2009 points will be available as they will expire at the end of your 2010 UY (July 31st, 2011).

Hope this helps!

With Aug UY you need to bank all points by March 31st not April 1st! Just do not want to see you lose points due to 1 day.

Yup - that is correct. You will only have available your 2010, 2011, and 2012 points for the cruise. I will tell you, though, that MS is super helpful about booking cruises. I was clueless when we booked our 2011 Dream cruise and they were very very helpful and patient in walking me through the banking that they were doing and explaining why they were doing what they were doing. Happy sailing! :thumbsup2

Yes, the rule for transfering points out for use on the Disney Cruise is that the points you use for the cruise must be those that are usable in the same use year as the cruise you choose, meaning if a Sep 2011 trip with an Aug use year, they can be points from the Aug 2011 use year (the "current" use year points for that trip), points banked from the Aug 2010 use year into the 2011 use year, and points borrowed from the Aug 2012 use year into the Aug 2011 use year, but they cannot be Aug 2009 points banked into the Aug 2010 use year because those expire before the use year in which you will take the cruise.

That's my understanding except that IF you're 2 UY ahead, you have the choice of the current UY or the next UY because you couldn't use the UY in question. This was never an issue before other than for II exchanges but now that they're often listing cruises a full 2 years out it can be an issue for DCL as well. That would be the case for some for Sept, 2011 for any UY starting April through August. It's possible this has changed since I last got the info, it's been a couple of years, but I don't think so.

I feel your pain...have been distracted for the last few years with life in general and didn't pay attention to banking/renting, etc...trying to get back in the swing of it!:confused3
