Hi Everyone!:wave2:

I have a few questions about becoming a DVC member. Tomorrow I will decided if I will pay the down payment to DVC or wait. I need your help:goodvibes I think the SSR incentive is amazing so that is a factor that is making me want to do it now. But we have reservations a POR in Sept. w/ FREE dining! I am having a hard time wanting to give up our free dining but I don't want to miss out on the incentive, plus our guide told me today that he can get us double points with the use month in Sept. (did I say that right) So that means 320 for our trip this Sept. What kind of dining discounts can I get being a DVC? Should I do become a DVC member now? PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

If you like SSR and have decided on SSR via Dis, that's a tough one, because it will sell out soon. Don't get me wrong, you can always buy resale, and DVC will always run deals on other resorts. However, what people are reporting in other threads sounds really good. Here's what was recently posted:
They are selling the last 3% of SSR.
160 points goes for $16640.
December UY
You get 160 pounts to use this year.
$10 credit a point
$500 gift card
No dues this year
Annual dues are $673.

As for free dining, you won't get that with DVC. You can pay for DDP, but it's sure not free. I went back and forth on DVC, but for us, I got sick of paying $2K or more every time we visited. FWIW, I don't regret the decision in the least.

Lastly, talk to your guide. Just because you buy in, doesn't mean you have to use the points in September if you'd rather take advantage of the free dining. You could bank the points and it would be just like buying in next year! If it's true that you're not paying 08 maintenance fees, you haven't lost a thing by buying in this year. Plus, you gain a $500 in a gift card!

Best of luck with your decision! :thumbsup2

Many DVC members get APs because of the discount and because they go frequently. If you work it right, you can go once a year, but get next year's trip just before the expiration of your pass.

If you buy an AP or are a FL resident, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience card for $60. That will get your 20% of on many table service dining, including alcoholic beverages if you like them. A few counter service places are include where there is no table service. There are blackout periods around the holidays.

DVC does offer dining discounts, but they are limited to specific times and locations.

You also need to make sure your guide can get you a reservation using your points for the time you intend to go. There are a lot of times booked solid already, especially from the beginning of October to mid-January. Otherwise ask about banking your current year SSR. I don't think you will be able to bank the incentive points. Maybe you could keep the free dining reservation and add a few more nights at SSR with your incentive points???

$500!!!! Gift Card mmmmmmmmm I was not told of that by my guide. I will have to ask him tomorrow. That would make a difference. How much does a family AP cost for a DVC member?:)

So your saying I will get all of these if I purchase tomorrow?

This is what's currently posted on the Mouse Owners web site:

Saratoga Springs**
$104 base price less $10 promotional discount; 160-point minimum purchase

Special Offer: $104 base price less $10 promotional discount PLUS $500 Disney gift card; 160-point minimum purchase; referral from current DVC member required

It does not mention the use year or dues, but their information would not normally mention that. You should check with your guide to verify what they are offering, and you need a referral to get the gift card, per the post.

Thank you for the information:flower3: :flower3:

Why not bank those points and take your September trip as planned, and plan another trip later in the year.

Because we don't want to spend money on both. One or the other at this time. ;) We have decided to stick with our free dining trip:) This is the first time we are going during free dining so I am excited about that! Thank you all for your help.

You'll be less excited when you see what free dining does to getting ADRs and the quality of food during that time. I guess I would never give up 50 years of vacations at today's price for a couple hundred dollars of "free" dining. What's really "free" anyway? You still have to pay rack rate for the reservations.
