Hey everyone, what is your best appetizer? I need to bring something to my Dsis house for thanksgiving and would like a "wow" appetizer! Any ideas?

Take a Ritz cracker, spread a light layer of cream cheese, place a peeled & boiled shrimp then a small dallop of cocktail sauce. Do not make these up to early in advance though because the cracker can become soft.

1 pkg presliced ham
1 container flavored cr cheese (I use sour cream/chive)

Spread layer of cream cheese on a slice of ham roll up jelly roll fashion and slice in pinwheels.

I have a really good lettuce wrap recipe.

It is made with ground turkey and a bunch of Asian mix-ins

It is a lot of ingredients, but its easy to make and reallllly good.

You mix everything together, then plop it on a slice of lettuce and eat it.

PM me if you want the recipe, I will be glad to share

Cheese Pinwheels

6 cups grated cheese -(Mexican blend, or a combination of Mexican blend and pepper jack)
1Tbs fresh cilantro
1 small can chopped black olives
1/3 cup green onions, diced
1/3 cup roasted red peppers or pimentos (chopped)
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 cups mayonnaise
12 soft flour tortillas

Mix together grated cheeses, cilantro, black olives, green onion, redpepper, cream cheese and mayonnaise.
Thinly spread mixture all over open tortilla.
Wrap the tortillas tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.
Remove from refrigerator; slice each tortilla in about 8 slices.

Cut small circles out of phyllo dough, puff pastry dough or pie crust dough and place each one in the holes of a muffin tin (or mini muffin tin for smaller appetizers).

For topping: Sautee some onions, garlic and mushrooms (any kind you like - I like a mixture of wild mushrooms). Add some salt and pepper and keep cooking until mushrooms and onions are wilted. Deglaze the pan with some dry white wine and cook down about 5 minutes. Add some heavy cream and a grated white cheese - Swiss or Gruyere works well. Add a dash of fresh nutmeg. Stirr until cheese is melted. Spoon into the muffin tins over the dough and bake just until dough is lightly browned. Follow instructions on the dough package for correct times, but keep a close watch so it doesn't burn.

Sorry I don't have exact quantities. I'm a cook and not a baker, therefore I don't really use measurements - I just eyeball it. ;)

This is pretty rich, so the mini muffin tins are usually enough for a small bite. I love wild mushrooms - they give such an "earthy" taste to the dish. Oh, and if you can use a sweet onion, it's even better.

Ever had food so good it could make you cry? This is IT!

STUFFED MUSHROOMS:

1lb bacon,
1 8oz pkg cream cheese
Whole mushrooms, stems removed

Fry the bacon until crisp. Let cool and then crumble.

Cut cream cheese into slices or cubes, and soften for a few seconds in the microwave (just until it is easy to mix).

Mix cream cheese with bacon, fill mushrooms with mixture, and bake at 325 for 20 mins until mushrooms are soft.(May vary depending on size of mushrooms, so check after 15 mins or so).

Very easy and absolutely delicious. Never have any left overs.

I have this cookbook my sister gave me called "The Three Ingredient Cookbook" and this appetizer, as simple as it is, always winds up being a knockout for me. It is best served hot, so it may not be what you're looking for if you have to take it very far or can't make it at you Dsis's house.

Saltine crackers
Sliced bacon
Grated parmesan cheese

Wrap a slice of bacon around a cracker. Top with 1/2 teaspoon parmesan cheese. Place in a lightly greased baking pan. Bake at 325 degrees F for 15-20 minutes. Turn and bake an additional 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

I found this on www.allrecipes.com 2 years ago...EVERYONE loves it, and it takes about 5 minutes to prepare~Try it!

Hot Onion Dip

INGREDIENTS

* 3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
* 1 onion, finely chopped
* 2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
* 1/2 cup mayonnaise

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a medium baking dish.
2. In the prepared dish, mix the cream cheese, onion, Parmesan cheese and mayonnaise.
3. Bake in the preheated oven 30 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned.

1 cup carrots (finely chopped)
1/2 C(cup) water
20oz Lean Ground Turkey (in the meat section)
1 C Shiitake Mushrooms (finely chopped)
8 oz Water Chestnuts (finely chopped
3 tablespoons minced garlic
1/3C Teriyaki Sauce
3 tablespoons creamy Peanut Butter
1 tablespoon seaseme oil
1/2 C hoison Sauce
2 bunches green onions
1 head of lettuce

Most of these items are in the "asian foods" aisle at the grocery store

Chop carrots, mushrooms, chestnuts and green onions

Cook carrots with water over high for 3 minutes (remove)

Cook turkey over medium until it crumbles and is fully cooked (white/tanish color)

add all ingredients together and stir really well

Clean lettuce and cut into quaters. Peel layers apart.

Spoon turkey mixture onto lettuce and fold over.

I provide a spoon and let the guests do this. Its more fun to "prepare" your own food!

It is a lot of ingredients, but well worth it! It also only takes about 15-20 minutes from prep to serve.

scallops wrapped in bacon are very easy, and if available, put them on a cookie sheet and use the grill. Keeps the strong smell out of the house

taco dip is easy as well

ground beef with taco seasoning (then chill in fridge)
sour cream
salsa
shredded lettuce
taco cheese
sliced black olives

Then just build in dish, ground beef, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, cheese, olives. serve with corn chips.

I know cold ground beef sounds gross, but it's really good

The easiest thing ever is sweet and sour meatballs. Get a bag of frozen meatballs and put them in the crockpot. Pour in a jar of Chili Sauce and a jar of grape jelly. Mix and heat for several hours.

My favorite dip is called Neiman Marcus Dip. Shred a block of sharp cracker barrel cheese. Add some sliced green onions, some crumbled bacon, some toasted almonds. Mix in mayo to desired texture (around a cup).

I have one that is so easy. Everyone raves about it and are shocked at the few ingredients.

I shred a block of swiss and mix it with just enough mayo to bind the cheese and a little salt and pepper. Press it into an appropriately sized bowl lined with plastic wrap and chill until firm. Turn it out onto a serving tray with wheat crackers.

I always have to snag some as soon as I put it out because it's gone within minutes.

I love Neiman Marcus Dip! But I never had the recipe - thank you!

At Easter, I made phyllo, brie and raspberry jelly wraps.

Cut several sheets of phyllo into squares. Place a small chunk of brie and a dollup of raspberry jelly onto it and roll it up with the sides tucked in. Before baking at 350 for about 15 minutes, or so, until they are golden, brush on some melted butter.

These are little bites of heaven.
