I need to vent....

Bingo! I want our theme to be a secret until after the registration is done.
I respected the privacy of you and the other friends (like CapeGirl) who
are not on my team and also need privacy to build.

I had to boot someone, (and ask another to leave), but I did tell them I
felt bad for doing so. Once the ride competition weekend starts, we'll
all be the social butterflies that we are. :)

Exactly! We want to keep our own tricks and clever ideas to ourselves. I am creatively trying to come up with new ways to "manipulate" items for the best result. When people see me building, they ruin the surprise.

I haven't resorted to booting yet: the only time I booted was because I was meeting Foamy in my Pirate Tiki Room for a trade, and two folks suddenly came in and started conversing with one another. Foamy asked (in the trade talk) 'do you know these people?'. I was all 'no...'

So I asked them what they wanted, they ignored me, so I booted. Never been happier. Don't know what this has to do with the rides: I guess it's just late... :rotfl2:

Isnt it at all possible, just maybe, that this person came by looking for the company of someone s/he considered a friend and NOT to "be nosey and peek at your rooms and ideas"?

Maybe s/he was just looking for a friend. And got a boot instead.

Those "Please Keep Out" messages are just so tempting. I don't get too mad when it happens--most people will leave when you ask. And it's easy to click on the wrong name on your friend list--we've all done that in the past.

I get frustrated with the people who come into every single room your in that says "Do Not Enter."

I want to clarify a few things....

First of all, MOST of the people on my Friends List are kids. And these kids always come around to all of my rooms, which is always FINE with me. Even when I changed the room titles this weekend to read "Team Only - Please Keep Out" I didn't mind when some of them would still come in. I understand they're kids and they feel that we are "good friends" and that the warning doesn't apply to them. LOL It's the OTHER KIDS/PEOPLE who come in and start demanding that I talk to them (and NO, they are not people who need help, because if that were the case I would stop what I was doing to help them). These are kids/people who get insulted because they feel I'm ignoring them. In fact, the other night CapeCAD was in my room while I was building, and he told a person "sorry, she's busy, she has her inventory window open, she can't see what you're saying". This was after he saw the person get more and more irate because I wasn't saying "hello" to her. I just so happened to close my Inventory window in time to see her say "I can't believe the too of you!!" and she made a mad face and left. (He filled me in on what had happened just prior). Needless to say, I deleted her from my Friends List. I'm sorry, but I need room on my list for people who have some respect for their supposed "friends".

I have so many kids on my Friends List, not all of them are the models of politeness, and that's fine. It's when they cross the line that I lose my patience with them, and believe me, I do have a ton of patience.

Also, I asked those people yesterday, repeatedly to PLEASE LEAVE for a moment, and that I'd speak to them later. They disregarded what I was saying. I do hate to boot people and before yesterday I couldn't even tell you the last time I did it. I have a LOT of people coming into my rooms all the time, so I'm not just talking about a person here and there popping in. I'm talking about groups of kids (yes, they're on my friends list. lol) who are coming in and not leaving when I ask them to.

I think the bottom line, at least in my experience, is that these kids/people think that my "Team Only - Keep Out" doesn't apply to them!!

And I did send some "Thank you for understanding, I'll see you tomorrow" messages afterwards. MOST of the kids took it very well, except for 2. The one who did me the favor of deleting me, and the other girl who got mad at me AND CapeCAD because I wasn't talking to her when she wanted me to. lol

I am very aware that I'm a community leader and so I exercise even more patience than I normally would, when dealing and interacting with the people on VMK. However, I won't take the kind of abuse that I experienced yesterday, either.

Ok, rambling over........ :teeth:

P.S. Not sure how I'd handle adult DISers coming into a room marked "Team Only - Please keep out" :rolleyes1 At least I know I'm basically dealing with kids. ;)

cape i have a idea make a mule add all your team to the mules friend list and u can do meetings in that mules room

I agree so much with this post. Funny I could spend all the time in my rooms building alone no one comes to visit. Now I put please do not enter and also in the description if you come I will boot. And they come all the times. So boot away I did. Yes a lot are the kids I have just started to get to know but they need to learn manners. And if I have a do not disturb sign on my front door do not barge in. And it says clear as day Littlebelle's room Please do not enter. I find it very rude that people do this. I do not care if I boot them they did not read room description and after the are booted maybe they will.

Hi marcm :wave2:

That's a very good idea! And I might just do that :) But then when I'm on as ME and if I want to show my rooms to a teammate as I'm building the rooms, that's when I might run into the same situations. But thanks for the idea, I will definitely keep that in mind! :sunny:

Heh.. This happened to me all weekend, and the room clearly stated DO NOT ENTER UNLESS ON TEAM. But people didn't listen so I used my handy boot button a lot. On the other hand what got me kind of mad/furious and made me laugh was that First another Teams Leader walks into my room. Then following him in comes the rest of the team! I was about to say something but I didn't want to. I know that they were not all there by accident, and they were checking out the competition... lol

I had a few visitors from my friends list as well... funny thing is these are people I have not seen visit me in months- who suddenly start popping into my room many will say hi- I'll say hi back and ask if they need anything and then they just pop out.

So I do know there are a few disers out there who are on teams who were going around looking at rooms to see what was up-

And it is just common respect not to go off spying at everyone's rooms- especially if it says "Please Stay out- working" I know many of my team members had far more problems than I did with unwanted guests- I can at least say that with the few I asked to leave- they did leave right away and didn't seem upset about it.

Here is a suggestion- if you need to speak to someone in a room titled "Do Not Enter" or something like that- send them a private message in the game and ask your question or ask if they can find you in a bit. I'm sure they will find the time to go and see you and help out.

And some of the Zeta's were talking- and we'd like the Do Not Disturb option for our room- but one of the ladies came up with the idea of a "by invitation only" (can't remember which wise Zeta it was lol) So that you could have friends come in but only those invited to the room. That would solve so many problems and not just at build times but when you want to trade or do other things- or just put away things you've purchased into store rooms.

Oh- and for any of you who came in to my room Mickey Toy Ride- it isn't part of the competition- I was just using up some spare ride parts I had- but I do think it came out rather cute- Come by this evening if you feel lonely- I'm done building my room and won't go into it that often until time for judging

CapeGirl, glad you vented, because it's made me realize i'm not the only one who runs into these problems. i've been working on my ride room, and the only person in there is my sister, who is helping me with construction, and then all of a sudden people who are our "friends" come into the room and start talking to me in the room that says in the room description "in construction for a great new room". at one point, i put a room divider across the door to try to kindly let people know they weren't welcome, but did that work? NO!! so now if someone unwelcome comes, i don't boot them, i just say "i need to buy some more stuff for my room, be back soon", and i run off to a game lobby and hang out there for a few minutes before returning to find my room empty. i guess i'm still being rude, but some vmk people just don't take the hint.

Thanks for posting. I have felt the same when I was trying to build a room.
You can ask nicely but there are some very rude people around that continue to hound for free items after you say "not now I am busy building a room".

Sometime you need you space.

The panmanman :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Oh CapeGirl, sorry to hear this disrespect was happening to you. I know exactly what you mean. For what ever reason, the kids think that "Do Not Enter" or "Team Members Only" does not apply to them. They feel they have some special privilege that you have granted them and should be allowed in. It is annoying. You have made them feel good about themselves by always welcoming them in. So why should this be any different just because you asked others to leave. Block the door. Have a back door entrance owned by another player. You have earned over and over again my admiration and respect, sad that others can't or won't honor your request.
I hope by now the worse is over and you are smiling again. Please do not let the few ruin this event for you. Good luck to you and your team.

Wow - I thought this was just happening to me - I guess it is a universal problem!

I think kids assume that the "Keep Out" means people who are not friends and they want to test the limit of their friendship with the room owner, to see if they are special and somehow allowed.

I have asked people to leave and then they jump on my half-built ride while I am trying to construct it. I must be evil because I don't feel badly about booting people. Then they message me with "srry! srry!" Well, I'm not. There should be an option to keep all people out of a room when working on it. Staff has it!

My 2 cents. I did compete in the Everest competition and had the same issues. No matter what I wrote in the room description, people still came by.

I for one, have seen most of my friends hard at work of late, again, by seeing those "do not enter" etc., in the room titles. I respect that! Even though I am not on a team this time, even I know that if I really want to see someone, I can send them a VMK message first, to gain their permission. Uh, d'oh, can't anyone else think of that?

I had to boot a lot back with the Everest one. Some were friends not involved with competition, so I let them stay, but even then it WAS difficult cause they wanted to "volunteer ideas". When sought after, (which I did from some) that was great. But otherwise, please keep your "ideas" to yourself! Sad to say, but there were some who professed to not be on any team, and they weren't, but they did "scout" for other teams. Now that is just pitiful. Those are gone from my list.

Bottom line. Read the room title folks. Observe each other's rights to a tiny bit of privacy in creating what will hopefully be a winning room! If you really need them, send a vmk message first! It is so very simple to do! :rolleyes1

(slightly off topic: so sweet that a few friends have asked me to come "see" their rooms, I treasure that knowledge that they know I am not there to spy and I do hope a few more will offer, as I do know so many can do some fantastic imaginative work! Lord knows the competition weekend will be so busy for all, it will be hard to take the time for chat about the individual rooms!)

To all ride builders: I respect and obey your do not enter titles. The only way I will come to your room is if you invite me or I fat finger it when navigating my friends list. I am not on a team and am not spying for any teams. I can't discuss specific ride ideas because I have seen at least one ride room. I can give general advice like "VMK Staff seems to appreciate creative usage of furniture." My dance floor made of tables is an example of that.

I think a lot of people just don't read the titles and descriptions for rooms. It might help to put "I will boot you" in the title and in the description. Maybe, "Keep out or I will boot you" for the title and a bit more detail in the description. There's always the reverse psychology approach. "Let's talk about my grand kids" or something else the kids might find boring may keep them away!

Would it make sense to put a slide start and a teleporter in the door so that if they try to enter the room they get teleported to an exit room? I don't know how these slides and room entry things work but if there is a configuration that works like an auto-boot, feel free to use it! Just make a "backdoor" entrance for your team.

I think I found a solution to this problem. I kept my room title as "Space Mountain Room," and the only person who stopped into visit me was a team member looking for help.

So, maybe putting stuff like "Keep Out--Team Members Only" is the problem. Nothing makes peole want to something like being told they can't ;)

yeah sure, Rolls, trying to be all nice and helpful giving advice this morning. I saw you with your notebook out last night! I saw the flash go off when you took pictures of my ride!!!

oh...and thanks for all of the you-know-whats you gave me!! :teeth:

I think there is to much leave or boot over this ride athon and yes I am complaining again, sorry. But all this leave or boot over a ride to me is just plain stupid. Im not arguing against cape, since she Does spend alot of time with her friends and dis people, so we should respect her.

In the end instead of booting right away we should ask them to leave, which I think cape did.

Just my thoughts
