The rule in my house is "if you don't like what's cooking- cook yourself". That's how I got to learn how to cook. I was a very picky eater when I was younger. I wouldn't eat half of what my parents cooked, and even now I'm very sensitive to texture when eating. I can't eat pork or chunky sauces on my spaghetti because of this problem. I can cook couscous like a pro- complete with chicken and veggies cooked fresh if I feel like it. Couscous isn't a hard dish. It's basically small pasta balls (like...half a grain of rice small) and you boil a pot of water (to the amount specified for the amount of couscous you're cooking) and pour in the couscous. Turn off the heat once you've added the couscous and cover it for about 8 minutes- it steams itself and everything. You can add whatever you want to it, too. It's really easy to make and you can spice it up however you want.
Other than that, I love to mess around with salad ingredients, I like trying new dishes with beef and chicken and I'm a master griller, so long as I'm using a wild flame like in a fireplace. I can't grill for crap on an actuall grill. I was a girl scout and we used to do overnighters where all we were given was a list of ingredients and matches if we needed them. I could totally survive on my own in the forest. And I'm learning how to make pizza with a dutch oven!
I have the bolded problem also.
I don't eat certain foods because I hate the texture.
I love love love the taste of fried rice, but I can't eat it because the onion (or is it celery? All I know is that it's green and has ridges and it's in fried rice) makes me want to gag when I bite it.
I also only dip my nacho chips lightly into salsa. I can't eat the chunks in it, I can only handle the sauce.
And another one is macaroni tomato hamburg. It's just macaroni pasta cooked with hamburger and tomato sauce. It taste fine, and my dad loves it.
But the chunky tomatoes is gross.
