Sorry, I imagine I'm posting this on the wrong place, but not really sure where to post it where I'll get the most exposure.

I had some of these beans at a cook-out several months ago, but left without the recipe, and the people who had the cook out are out of town--or I'd just ask them. ;) We're having a cook out this weekend and I need that recipe! I know you know the baked beans I'm talking about. They have hamburger meat in them, seems like there is peppers and onions but I could have just dreamt that.........I have "googled it", and got about 1000 recipes---all not exactly right. Seems like there was ketchup or BBQ sauce in them too.

Anyone have that recipe?? And I need exact measurements---I'm not a good cook and "a little of this and a little of that" cooking turns into disasters for me. thanks

Sorry, I only cook with a little of this and a little of that. I add cooked hamburger about 1lb depending how much you are making. Some cooked chopped onions and green peppers (again I don't use a certain amount) I guess about 1 med. size of each cut up and saute. I also use already canned baked beans (easier for me, any kind will do, but I like bush). Add some brown sugar (about 2 tbs for taste) Mix it all together in a crock pot. I also sometimes throw in different spices (hot pepper flakes, garlic salt, whatever I feel like at the time)

Sorry I couldn't be more specific. Drives people nuts when they want a recipe from me and I say a little of this or a little of that. It never is the same twice.

ETA: I forgot I also add vineger, ketchup (about 1/2c) and canned white kidney beans.

thanks! How many cans of beans (and what size cans) do you add to 1lb of meat?

I like this one. I always get asked for the recipe when I bring it somewhere. Unfortunately, my hubby and dd think they are too good for beans, so never make it at home. Comfort food is what I call it.

1 lb ground beef
1 small onion (I only use a half of a small one--don't care for too much)
4 cans pork and beans
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup

Brown the gb and onion together and drain. Mix all ingredients together. Put into greased casserole dish. Bake at 300 for 1 and 1/2 hours. Enjoy.

I use just regular size cans, and I use about 4 or 5 of them. You can use the larger cans, just don't use as many. You can also use a different variety of beans. Again, I just go with preference and taste. I am a taster all the way through the cooking process. ;)

I don't think it is one of those recipes that you have to be so precise on the amounts. Let us know how it turns out.

I have the recipe you're talking about. I'm at work now, but when I get home in a couple of hours, I'll post it for you with the exact measurements. My MIL makes them often. I finally got the recipe from her a few years ago. They are sooo good.

I make these all the time. I use a can of large pork and beans. I drain the juice off them before I add them to the browned ground beef. I add some minced garlic, chopped onions, a little bbq sauce and brown sugar.

Here's the one I make, that we actually love:

1 lb gr. meat
2 (16 oz) cand Bush's homestyle beans
1 med. onion
1 bell pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbls ketcup
1 Tbls mustard
4 Tbls bar-b-que sauce

Brown gr. meat, add onion & bell pepper. Cook until tender. Season with salt & pepper. Mix beans, seasonings, sugar, ketchup, mustard, bar-b-que sauce in a casserole dish. Add meat mixture to dish & stir. Cover and put in 350^ oven for 20 min. Remove cover and bake additional 10 min. Serves 6.

I think this is the recipe you needed. I thought it had bell peppers. You can always sauted one with the onion. The liquid smoke adds a great barbeque flavor.

4 cans pork n beans (I like Showboat 15 1/2 oz cans)
1 1/2 lbs browned ground chuck
1 lb cooked crumpled bacon
1 onion, sauted
1 cup ketchup
1 tbsp. liquid smoke
3 tbsp. white vinegar
1/3 cup brown sugar

Put all in crock pot and cook slow all day or on high for 4 hours if your short for time.

wow, never heard of adding hamburger to baked beans...did it start out as a regional thing!? :confused3

I do mine all brown sugary and sweet (maybe a northern thing?)- not sure hamburger would go well.....(plus am vegetarian so would have to be veggie burger)

It must be a Southern thing............but they sure are yummy!!

I was actually born in Upstate New York and was raised on Grama Browns baked beans. Can you believe they are nowhere to be found down here??? :guilty: That's a disgrace.

Hello!! our southern relatives always take back Grandma Browns and Heids red and white hots after visiting!!!!! I was raised on them as well - every family get together, potluck, whatever someone(usually my grandma) always brought them!!!!!!

Google "taste of central NY" and you can order some GB's!!!!

Although we are vegetarian, I still make GB's (hoping the amount of pork is very small)..I tried and tried to make them from scratch with no luck!!!!

This recipe for Baked Beans and Hamburger comes from Once A Month Cooking, so you can make up a big batch and freeze it for later. We love this recipe and call it Cowboy Beans. (I think we started calling it that originally to get the boys to try it).

3 Strips of bacon
3/4 c. lean ground beef (2 c. browned)
1 c. finely chopped onion
1 31-oz can pork and beans in tomato sauce
1 8-oz can tomato sauce
1/4 c. prepared mustard
1/4 c. catsup
salt and pepper to taste

Brown bacon and drain. In a large skillet, brown ground beef and saute' onion until tender. Mix in bacon and remaining ingredients. (At this stage, you can put it into containers and freeze if you want.)

Place in a large baking dish that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes, uncovered.

(Honestly, I usually don't saute' the onions, I just throw everything together and bake)
