I would love some ideas for work that can be done at home. Assembling/boxing/sorting/data entry....I don't know...anything really. What can one do from home, on their own schedule to make some additional money? I keep finding lots of things that are just scams...send money...post lists...get mailing lists...etc.

How can I find out about something that's not a scam that I can truly make money at from my home. I'm open to any and all ideas.

Can you sew? My niece does a good business doing work for various home decorating places like making pillows, curtains, etc. She also has a business making pocketbooks.

Good luck!

Well, I am going to start working from home Thursday! Yea!!!!!! I am transitioning from a full-time travel agent to an "outside agent". Basically, I still will work for the same place, just from my home now. Not as much $$$ or as many leads (passenger requests), but I will be working at home in time for our 1st little one to come along.

I know lots of agencies that are now looking for people to work from home, cuts down on overhead costs for them. Just be sure to look at agencies and their fees vs how much commission you really make. You can PM me if you have any questions!

and if you want another option, drop me a note! I'm working with a great company and group of ladies as well from home. I set my own schedule and put as much into it as I want. Now is a great time to join!

Not sure where you live, but around here the demand for "after school care" is intense. You could probably watch a handful of kids from say 2:30 to 6 and make a good $50 per kid per week.

thank you all for your suggestions....and the many, many PMs you've sent. I appreciate the effort. Perhaps I should clarify what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for something I can do completely by myself from my home, even at 3am if that's what I want to do. For example, a friend of mine used to sort mail for Publishers Clearing House, another friend worked for a reunion photo company and sorted and mailed photos, another did data entry. These are the types of things I'm looking for. Mindless menial stuff that I can make a few bucks at.

I know plenty of plenty of plenty of folks who sell stuff, from Mary Kay to Discovery Toys to Melaleuca to Partylite candles, etc. I'm not looking to do any kind of selling whatsoever.

So, does anybody do anything from home like what I'm looking for? How did you find out about it? Are there any more positions available?

Thanks!:sunny:

Is this a selling thing? What exactly is it?

I'm assuming you'd have to be licensed travel agent? I'd be willing to look into something like this but I don't believe I have the qualifications. More info?

A woman I know puts together gift baskets. It's not really selling per se(like Tupperware or MaryKay), but she has a nice little business going. She makes theme baskets (ie-patriotic, fishing, home repair)for others to give as gifts. She markets herself mainly to businesses etc...the type of places where they might want to give a gift.

It's tricky...it sounds like what you're looking for would be something at home with NO selling. That sort of nixes any of the ideas we've come up with.

I can only then think of something like medical transcription or something like that. It's tough, so many of the "at home" jobs are scams. That is the only job I know of that would fit this bill.

::yes::

::yes:: You hit the nail on the head. I've been researching a bit and there are lots of scams out there. But, I know people who've done other types of things successfully in the past, just don't know how to hook up with these companies to get started. The friend who did the picture sorting said there was a list a mile long of people who wanted the job if/when there were any openings, I imagine that's the case with any of these type of things.

I was hoping one of our many, many DISers had some experience in this area and could point me in the right direction.

Thanks to everybody, I really appreciate it. Keep the ideas coming.

It is really hard to find a job that can be done at home. I looked into what seemed like hundreds of different ideas and I ended up taking a medical transcription course and have been doing that from my home for about four years now. But there is an expense with the price of a good school and start-up equipment so not sure if that is what you are looking for. Some days I love it and other days I hate it but it brings in extra money and I am here for the kids. Good luck with your search and I hope you find something that fits what you are looking for.
