This is the first time I've actually gotten personal on this board, but it's the only one I feel comfortable sharing this with.

Last night, a friend of mine wanted me to call her. I had known her for about 3 months, and we had become close friends. Somewhere along the way, she decided she liked me as more than a friend, but never disclosed it to me. That is, until yesterday, when she was getting ready to leave the instant messenger for good. I logged on, and it turned out she sent me a large email, essentially professing her love to me. Well, I didn't know what to make of it, so I chatted with her about the letter. This convo went on and off for the rest of the day, until I had to go to bed. I then offered to call her and discuss more. Well, when I did call her, she asked me a single question: do I love her. She wanted a simple yes or no. It took me one second to know what my answer was, but 3 minutes to say it. When I told her No, she was heartbroken. I tried to explain how she lives on the other side of the country and how it wouldn't work out, but she was already in tears and said "that's all I needed to know."

Now this is where you come in. I need some advice for how to cope with this "break-up", or as I call it, breaking up with a girlfriend I didn't even know I had. Has anyone ever had to go through this not-so-break-up before?
