Hello!!!

I need some reviews of people who have been on the ride on how rough the ride is, trying to decide whether or not to go on.
Is there any ride you would compare it to as far as how jerky it is? Im IMAGINING spider-man with a lot more turned to your left and right? in which case i would go, BUT I dont think I could handle much more than that lol.

Please help would love to hear your experiences!

Because of the special effects you know you are moving around a lot but you never know which way you are orientated. You do go on your back and sides on this ride but you do not go upside down. It is a totally unique ride and you can't really compare it to spider man as the chair you sit on moves a lot and my husband came off feeling ill from the motion sickness. He thinks if you are ok with spider-man you will be ok with this.:)

The motion is different on FJ. There is a ton of it but it is quite smooth.

I agree with the previous posters that Spiderman causes me more vertigo and disorientation. The ride is amazingly smooth despite the fact that you are constantly shifting around and never really know which direction you're going or facing. There are no drops and you never go in a corkscrew or anything, you are always traveling at a slow pace.

This ride is technologically more advanced than ANYTHING else out there. You HAVE to ride it!!!:goodvibes

It is a great ride and the special effects are amazing! We were glad we rode the ride twice because we noticed even more cool things the second time. However, it did cause motion sickness in my DS (17) and my DH. We tried Dramamine....and it worked some...just caused too much tiredness....sigh...

But the ride is great. I also don't think you can compare it to spiderman. Two different experiences.

Did you use the normal dramamine or the less-drowsy dramamine? I find that there is a huge difference.

We had a lot of success using Bonine to fight motion sickness on our recent trip.

Yup...it is the same formulation as less-drowsy dramamine. We use it too. Wal-mart also has a generic brand with the same formulation.

I thought of it as a mix of- Spiderman, Soarin, Rock N Roller Coaster and Haunted mansion. The best of each with some new effects thrown in. ;)

I was so nervous before I went on.
It was the best ride I have ever gone on and I can't wait to go again!!

I can't do spinning rides at all. Merry Go Rounds make me so sick, as do teacups and similar rides. I rode FJ many times in a row and never felt the tiniest bit sick.
DD is a ride fanatic. She goes on everything and never gets sick. After the third time on FJ, she got a bit dizzy and sick to her stomach. I couldn't believe it-usually I was the one who needed to rest after an amusement park ride.

Spiderman jerks you around and bumps you hard (not nearly as hard as the big coasters but hard enough that you need to hold on). But, in Spiderman you are constantly aware that you are in a ride vehicle with other riders, thus a visual continuity that may help with preventing vertigo.

FJ is a much improved technology. The ride is VERY smooth, with no hard jerks or bumps. You don't feel thrown around and your head doesn't bang against the sides of the seat. However, the sensation of being alone in the world while flying through a maze of architecture, geography, and other obstacles while following Harry on his broom (Harry is a very adept broom rider--so that means you are also.) is quite real. You can easily lose awareness of the other riders in your car and literally lose yourself in the theatrics. I can see how this would leave some riders motion sick, just like a passenger in a car is more susceptible to the motion than the driver.

Regardless, it really is a great ride and the walk through the castle is an absolute "Must-do," especially for anyone who is a fan of the series.

I'm assuming this means that this isn't a ride for a pregnant woman. At least the castle is awesome as is. :)

I'm a huge ride wimp -- I don't do coasters other than BTMR. My son and niece are pretty much the same way. My brother felt really nauseous on Forbidden Journey and tried to talk me out of going, because he was so sure I would hate it. All three of us chickens loved it. Go figure.

I think it's such an unusual ride you have to try it for yourself. The best description I've heard is Spider-Man crossed with Soarin'. But even that doesn't cover it. If it's a motion sickness issue, it's quite possible it won't be for you. But if it's a fear thing, you might be pleasantly surprised.

While it is smooth, I do feel slightly dizzy/motion sick after getting off of it...and can't just go back on and re-ride it.

I think it might have to do with the synchronization of the movie scenery...difficult to explain how it works without spoiling some things.

Make sure anything in your pockets are secure. Hubby almost lost his IPhone.:scared1:

I rode FJ last nov when I was approx 2 months pregnant. I had no problems with the ride at all. In fact it is my new favorite (DW or UO)! Of course you have to decide for yourself if you're comfortable riding or not. I personally think it depends on how far along you are.

I just got back from Universal yesterday!! I was very worried about the FJ ride b/c I've experienced motion sickness on simulators before. I am here to say that not only did I survive, I didn't get a bit sick and I wouldn't hesitate to declare Forbidden Journey the unequaled winner of all motion simulation rides in any theme park anywhere. :thumbsup2

The motion of the ride is VERY smooth. There was none of the jerkiness I was concerned about. There IS a lot of big motion, but it fits seamlessly into what you are seeing so your brain isn't going crazy trying to figure out where your body actually is. I didn't feel like my head was being thrown about left and right. (which is often the root cause of most motion sickness!).

I did take the "less drowsy" dramamine an hour or so before I rode FJ. I don't know if that made a difference or not. Last year when I got horribly motion sick after a simulator I found out the week after I got home that I had a pretty severe inner ear infection. Healthy ears this year, so no motion sickness.

The bottom line is this: If you are a fan of the books and the films, this ride is a MUST do. It's an homage to all the incredible film magic and to the stories. Give it a go. You won't be sorry!!!:thumbsup2

What do you guys think about FJ for an 8y/o who isn't very "adventurous" as far as rides go but does love BMTR? TIA!

I would say that FJ is smoother than BTMR but you do go on your back quite a lot. You also see a few scary sights that you wouldn't see on BTMR. You might want to see if you can find a video of the ride to preview.
