You have to call and make the reservation and you can pay for the point that you need. I don't think you can do it online. That's the way it used to be anyway.

You have to call MS. And if you need that 1 point for an 11 month reservation, you will not be able to buy it now, You will have to wait until the 7 month mark. I just found this out myself...needed 1 point to make a reservation at Aulani. Had 423 points and needed only ONE MORE POINT! Had to make a change in dates in order to book...they would NOT sell me that single point. Seems ridiculous to me. If they allow you to buy up to 15 points, they should allow you to buy it WHEN you need it, especially if it's to preserve your ability to book at 11 months. What good is home resort priority if you have to wait until 7 months to complete your planning? A little flexibility would be nice and makes a lot of sense to me...in the world according to me! Haha!

They might have points for me to use at my home resort at 11 months out and then not have any left for the person who calls right after me. Then they might acquire a contract at my home resort due to ROFR or a foreclosure and suddenly have points available again for the person who calls tomorrow. They would have lots of points to use at the Poly 11 months out because that resort is not yet sold out. They would have few or no points to use 11 months out at most of the other resorts.

By restricting it to 7 months out or less, they can rent you OKW points or BWV points or Poly points to use at Aulani or any other resort. And it's more fair since every member has access to these rental points no matter where they are booking.

No, DVC doesn't always have cash inventory at seven months out. DRC might have cash inventory, but that's not available for points.

But that's not an exception. The reason people need the extra at 11 months out is of they don't have enough. They'd end up making exceptions for everyone.

And if they allowed one point, then 2 is just that one point above one. Etc.

I think that buying One Time Use Points is restricted to the 7 month mark, so all members have an equal chance to book. If it was allowed at the 11 month mark it gives extra advantage to the resort owner, over the home resort advantage. Also DVC wants owners to buy more points and more members will buy them to get the 11 month advantage.

Yes but they have only allowed this for a few of years- before that you would have had to get a transfer from another owner or pay cash for an entire night- at least now you have an option at 7 months, until about 3-4 years ago you were just out of liuck altogether if you were missing 1-24 points.

I had to buy one point to make a reservation yesterday as I didn't have any points left I could borrow. The only sad part was that I've got other contract under different membership numbers with tons of points I could have used, but it was just easier to pay for the 1 point.
