I need kitty cat advice... any vets out there?

My 4 yo cat was regurgitating undigested food several times per week. I now add a few drops of olive oil to his wet food once a day. He very rarely regurgitates now.

There is a difference between 'vomit' and regurgitation - if they are just 'gagging' up un-digested food she may just be over eating.

So true! Our cat did that for years and it was scary to hear but not harmful to him. For a while we also rationed his food to smaller portions throughout the day just to get him to slow down!

Our vet's suggestion was to not use a bowl for his food (dry) - we use a shoebox lid or some other very shallow container. The food scatters in a single layer and it takes longer for the cat to scoop it all up than if it's a pile in the center of a bowl... long enough to stay in his tummy and work its way down!

Our cat is 13 also, and for the past 2 months she was throwing up a lot and generally acting like something was wrong. Her vet did bloodwork, an x-ray, and 2 exams over the past 2 months and everything came back normal. Finally last Fri. they put her under anesthesia to examine her and it turned out that she had a torn ACL in her right leg! She had surgery on Mon. to repair it and although she's laid up right now, she's back to herself. Do you think that your cat might have an orthopedic injury? It was *so* subtle...you could see that our cat was "off" and that her gait was slightly strange. Even the vet couldn't tell during a routine exam.

That's a great idea! We use bowls (they each have to have their own - they won't share for more than the time it takes to get food into both bowls!) that are pretty deep - I think we may try a dish that is a little more shallow and see if that helps our 'pukey kitty' as we call her

Thanks for all your tips, dis buddies. We are trying several of your suggestions and I guess time will tell if any of it helps. I bought some baby food squash yesterday and kitty gobbled it up, ate her regular food, and up it all came. Yuck!! Not sure the squash was in tummy long enough to help at all. I'm trying it again today. We also got her new bowls and have cleaned them each night and i'm only giving her a handful of food at a time. Cross your fingers!!

I know it sounds crazy, but put Vaseline on your kitty's nose and have her lick it off, about 1 teaspoon a day. I had a cat that lived 22 years and threw up every day. She also checked out fine again and again. Finally the vet said to do that and it really cut down on the vomit. He said it might help the food slide through her better. Gross but it seemed to make a big difference.
