Yeah - the overage thing has never happened to me or my husband either - and we are HEAVY iPhone users. We stream all the time (and I use LogMeIn Ignition to connect and control my PC and Mac), and I upload videos and pics and download apps daily - all mostly over 3G while I'm out and about or at work. The only thing I can figure is either the user experiencing those issues was on another carrier or perhaps has jailbroken their phone to allow for tethering - using the data connection with a laptop would definitely add up quicker.

A friend at work gave me the best tip the other day: my husband and I each use our own iTunes account, so when he purchases a game, it looked like I would have to either purchase it myself or grab the app file from his PC (which is at work so that was always annoying). My coworker suggested that I try and log into the app store on my phone with my husbands iTunes account and download his previously purchased app. I did that and it allowed me to download the app for free! Now we both have Scrabble and can play each other over a wifi connection without having to purchase it twice within our family. I've had no issues with running the program after logging back in with my info nor have I had any issues syncing. Just thought I'd pass it on. :cutie:

I have had an iPhone about six months now and have also never been charged for downloading on the 3G network and I download a lot.

My favorite apps are:

Pandora
3D Coaster
Wattpad (allows you to read pirated books)
Flick Fishing
Amazon Kindle
White Noise Lite
Shopping List
Koi Pond (even though it really does nothing)
The Weather Channel (much better than the weather app the iPhone comes with)
WDW Dining
Ebay
Facebook
Amazon

Thanks so much for all the replies... keep 'em coming! I'm seriously on pins and needles until I get it, should be here tomorrow, Monday at the latest. I already know that I won't be able to let go of this phone...EVER!:lmao:

The iPhone has quite literally and cliché of course, changed my life. :thumbsup2 I do everything on this little gadget. EVERYTHING. Twitter, facebook, emails, to dos, browse the forums, organize vacations, play games, I really can’t even begin to say that the purchase was worth it! It was WAY worth it. Suffice to say I have become a little tech Apple geeky since I purchased it…listening to iPhone and Apple podcasts and such..

I have NEVER ran into getting over billed with data. Previous poster—call AT&T and find out about that. My fiancé and I are HEAVY iPhone users so heavy in fact that we barely pull out our shiny perfect Macbooks anymore! And we have never been billed.

Apps?

Where to begin. I won’t go through what’s free and what is paid ‘cause I am here at work and here I am babbling about my little iPhone but..

Twittelator Pro (best Twitter app out there by far, was paid)
Facebook
To Do’s
Lose It!
Spend
Pandora
Toy Story Mania
Photoforge (AWESOME iPhone photo editor. I swear my iPhone pics look better than my expensive point and shoot!)
Bookworm (such a fun game)
Crash Kart
The Weather Channel
Ricky
Sally’s Spa
Bejeweled (of course)
Toki Tori
Evernote (I agree---LIFEsaver)
Fandango (LOVE! Find movie times in an instant for whatever area you are in! and free!)
Shoutcast
AppMiner
AIM
MySpace
Urbanspoon
Phone Flicks (must have for Netflix users!)
Shazam
Mouse Memo (great Disney trip organizer)
Forums Lite

And that’s all for now. But truly I love this thing….and you’ll love it too!

I am so jealous.....I want it now :rotfl:

I didn't get the iPhone, but choose the EnV-Touch instead. *Hopefully*, there will be more apps for it and Disney-ishness. :goodvibes

I really don't like AT&T, so the Touch was my best option.

What are your monthly bills for service like with the Iphone? I've heard a WIDE range ??
THANKS!

Mine runs $88 a month. That's the cheapest plan and a $5 text pack added. The price does vary depending on what plans are offered in your area ( found this out in another thread here on the Dis)

We got a discount on AT&T service because I am taking a class at our local community college. The cost of the class was $27 and AT&T now charges $36 to activate our college discount. With the discount, I get 15% off of the monthly bill, so I save $16.50 off a 550 minute family plan with 2 iphones. Going back to school and saving a few bucks is definitely a Win-Win! -- Suzanne

Waiting to get my iphone in Oct when current contract runs out.

thanks for all the great info, will be sure to ask about the 3G/5gig thing.

If you have unlimited, even if u exceed 5 gig how can they charge you, isn't unlimited unlimited????:confused3

how can you tell when you are on a 3G network?

AT&T did away with the unlimited data plans for the iphone and their data cards for laptops and netbooks. They both are now 5 gig before you start acruing charges. I upgraded from the original iphone which was on the unlimited data plan to the 3GS and I was told this by both the AT&T store and the business rep from my company. I gave my original iphone to my son and had them transfer his plan to the same plan I had on it, so he has unlimited data for $20 a month and I have 5 gig for $30 a month. I am glad I got the 3GS because there is a huge difference between the original Iphone and it as far as speed.

Prices for the plans must vary a lot from area to area. Our plan is 550 min. family plan w/ 2 phones for $59.99/mo and unlimited data for $30/mo but no texting at all (we really don't text at all anyway) unlimited texting is an extra $20/mo

My hub has the iphone and me the touch. We've never been charged for using additional downloading or streaming either. Maybe it's a test in some regions? Anyway we're appaholics. My must haves are as follows:

Occasions
AlarmTunes
Ebay
Facebook
TwitterFon
Beejive IM
ToDos
Grocery iQ
TPremium
MW Radio
StoneLoops
ABC News

We spend a bunch of time looking as new ones come out. Be careful you'll never want to be without it! Also, we found a great new dock for the iphone. It's the Griffin air curve, check it out it's amazing!!!!

Our first bill was double what we expected. When we called them they said that you prepay your bill. The first month is actually a double bill because you have to pay for your first month and than you prepay for the next month.

Are you sure this isn't what happened to you?

the iphone plan price is the same everywhere. The price is the price.

Not sure where the other poster got the info that the data was now limited. I have never seen it to be anything but unlimited

I got the info that the data was limited directly from two sales people at AT&T and our business rep through work. Now that everyone is saying it is unlimited, I will check with AT&T again although I have never had additional charges applied.

actually the price plans are not the same. I could search but hate searching Dis for threads lol But a few months back there was a thread on plans offered and there were differences. Even in this thread, the 550 family plan someone mentioned is not available for me. The lowest family plan for my zip code is 700 min for $70.
