I Need Ideas For School Baskets To Auction Off

Our school did this last year. Each class did one, and each student was supposed to either supply an item for the basket, or contribute 8.00 toward it. Some of the popular baskets were:

Scrapbook basket - filled with an album, and various tools, embellishments, stickers, ect. - this one was very popular. Many of the items were donated by a Creative Memories consultant, and the other stuff purchased at Joanns and Michaels

Game basket - filled with various games - Cranium, Yahtzee, Sorry, Kadoo - this one was a BIG HIT! It must of had at least 20 different games in it!

Movie Basket - filled with DVD's, popcorn, candy, and a couple of movie rental certificates

Nascar Basket - filled with various Nascar stuff, including an autographed picture or something

Candle Basket - filled with various candles and holders

A Fire/EMS basket (great for kids) - filled with toy fire, police and ambulance cars, patches and shirts from the local fire department, stickers, coloring books, ect.

Wine basket - glasses, various cookies and cheeses, and a gift certificate to a local winery

Spa basket - various spa things, lotions, bath gels, candles

Holiday basket - filled with holiday scented candles, home decor type stuff, stocking holders, ornaments, santa plate, mugs, ect.

Starbucks basket - all things Starbucks (I think somebody worked there and got the items donated)

Cooks basket - many cooking gadgets, cookbooks, ect. I remember seeing some Pampered Chef stuff in there, so a lot of it was probably donated.

I'll try to remember more!

I LOVE these ideas. Thanks!!!

Oh my! Run! Run away!! ;)

I am co-chairing this basket booth at our school bazarre this year. We have the following categories:

baby basket
preschool toys basket
coffee/tea basket
art supplies basket
movie basket
girlie-girl basket
big boy toys basket
gourmet basket
pamper yourself basket

The ones we had to remove because they didn't sell much in previous years were the gardening basket, the ice cream basket, and the scrapbooking basket. Our bazaare is Nov. 19th...I'll let you know how the categories did if you want....

The cash basket sounds like a great idea if you are raffling them off instead of pricing them to sell!

We do this for our spring fling and auction them off. Some of ours were:

Fishing basket: ice chest, fishing pole, baits etc.
Girls basket: for kids
Boys basket: for kids
Game baskets: all types of board games, cards
Absolute vodka baskets: all the flavors plus garnishes, martini shaker set
Candle basket:
Family night out basket: movie tickets, popcorn, gift certificates to restaraunts

Restaraunt gift certificate basket: The teachers bid on these
Ice cream basket: sundae cups, toppings etc.
Barbque basket:
Crawfish boil basket:
Women's pamper basket:
LSU Football basket: This included tickets for 4 to a game, tailgating party supplies, rental of rv. (this was a big one)

Hope these give you some ideas. We try to have some really nice baskets and some smaller ones, so that there is something for everyone's budget.

Whoops! I forgot we have a family game/book basket, too! :)

Is this an adults only auction? Our school has an auction every year and it is the biggest fundraiser of the year. Our auction is a themed auction and dinner with a different theme every year. Last year we did the Roaring Twenties and that was a lot of fun. We had a few ladies dresses up as cigarette girls and they went around the room selling chocolate cigars for $5 each and each cigar had a number attached. At the end of the night the winning number won a gift certificate to spa which was donated to the auction. The basket that brought the most money was a wheel barrow full of different kinds of liquor. It was the auction committee's basket and we each donated a bottle or two of liquor. There was everything from nice wine to beer and whiskey in there. I think it went for $350. This would not go over at an auction with kids but ours is an adults only RSVP event. We also had a lot of small $5-$15 gift certificates donated by local businesses. We put several of those in balloons filled with helium and charged $10 a balloon. People got to pop the balloon and find out what their "prize" was. We had 30 balloons and sold out within an hour.

Pool basket-towels, sun screen, pool toys, goggles

Weekend Road Trip basket- (pick a weekend getaway desitination from your area) maps, guide book, kid's road games, fun music CDs, snacks, ice chest, sodas. Gift certificate or coupons to local hotel and resturant.

BBQ Basket-BBQ sauce, grilling tools, napkins, corn on cob handles, BBQ recipe books, apron, hat.

Chinese cooking basket-wok, cooking utensils, chopsticks, recipe book, chinese sauces, rice sticks, canned vegetables(ie. bamboo shoots, water chestnuts), fried noodles.

Just to update.... that was "my" thread that robinb provided the link. Just wanted to add that several friends have suggested a chocolate themed basket. I hit the motherlode of chocolate clearance at Target a few weeks ago.... Lindt, Perugina, Hershey's, Ghiradelli and Russel Stovers (plus a few others) all in one basket!! I also got a few things together for a kids Pooh themed backpack (I had a backpack I had bought a while back at Walmart on clearance for $1~!), while at the Disney store a week or so ago.

I'd love to do some of the more elaborate ideas suggested here, but since I am funding this myself, I have to keep the cost down.

So right now I will be having a chocolate basket, a coffee basket, a winter basket, a scrapping basket, a baby basket, a spa basket, and a movie night basket. Wow... more than I thought. Guess I better quit before I go broke!.....................P

Our pre-school had class baskets at their silent auction. The biggest money maker was the Golf basket with a gift certificate for a round of golf, along with a putter and other accessories. The family fun night basket with games, movie, popcorn, etc., was also very popular. I liked the cooks basket and home organizing basket.

Tupperware basket if you have someone who is a TW consultant. Fill a Mega That's a Bowl with different products and goodies.
Knitting or crochet basket.
Sign language basket sign language books and videos to learn ASL. nice if you have deaf students in the school.
Something we had in a recent auction although it wasn't a basket was a decorative quilt. HAve had one for the last few years and it always brings in a good amount of money

Our school just started doing this last year. I have a notice of all the basket themes....

Nursery Rhymes, rainforest animals, boys birthday party, princesses, "block" heads, army pirate & knights, girls birthday party, winter wonderland, planes trains & automobiles, feline friendzee, ultimate girly toy chest, ultimate boy toy chest, needle and thread quilting bee, wonderful world of disney, thanksgiving gobble, I love to read, movie night, car care kit, dogs only, sounds of music, photo & frames, just a note, ladies only, holiday cheer, men only, new england patriots,a day at the spa, around the campfire, Kiss me I'm irish, Italian gourmet, Mexican fiesta, weekend garderner, outdoor fun and games, home improvements, for the birds, family game night, arts & crafts, vermont lovers, bathroom fun, time for a snack, backpack of fun for the kids, candle scents, star wars, Red Sox,Gift certificate giving tree, bakers delight.

Hope those help!!
Melissa
