I'm in need of help. My mom says I can't go to Disney unless I lose 80 lbs before November... :(.

SO I am looking for a friend to help me lose lbs...
any tips would be appreciated.

But it's hard for me right now. I just feel down and depressed and it's snowing and i just can't see that "Light" everyone sees at disney. :(. I just feel like I lost the "magic" of Disney. :(

So I'm looking for a Disney Pal to lose weigh with.
like check in one day a week and give tips to the other one.

That is a LOT of weight in that amount of time. I would suggest visiting your doctor and having the doctor set a realistic goal and a sensible diet. I am pooh sized and have been on every diet known to man. I know how tough it can be. Hang in there and know there is a light and better health at the end of the tunnel.

Sounds like a rather unrealistic goal for your mother to set, its a proven fact that more than 1-2 lb weight loss per week is not safe for you. I have been pooh sized for all my adult life and I can assure you that pressure from anyone to lose weight would only make me do the opposite of what they wanted, I can only loose weight for myself!
I agree with the PP, go to an MD and get his/her opinion of a realistic goal for you, they can also help with a referral to a nutritionist if necessary. Walking is great for weight loss and if you can't do that due to the weather try some of the "walking" DVD's that are available, most run about $10 or less, can be done in the privacy of your house and will at least jump start your exercise program until its nicer outside. Pool walking is great for you if you have access to a pool, I spend many hours walking in my pool and reading a book, and have done it in public pools too - talk about some ODD looks but its what I like to do and its good for me. I have to say that the lifeguards at the Y used to worry about me treading water in the deep end while reading but after a while they realized that I was fine and they didn't have to watch me constantly thus letting them watch the others in the pool more:rotfl:

And lastly, if your mother is making such a dramatic wt loss a criteria to going to WDW, then she might be going alone. If you were my daughter I would be happy to see you trying to become healthier, that will be accomplished by healthy eating and increasing your activity. Those reasons alone would be sufficient reason to celebrate with a trip to WDW and might spur you to continue trying to help yourself become the person YOU want to be, not the person SHE wants you to be!

If this is really something you want to do, I would start by smaller goals with rewards. Such as, when I lose 10 pounds, I get to buy that pair of shoes I have been wanting. Or when I lose 20 lbs, I get to have that full body massage. Think of things you can work toward in a easy time frame, that will take a couple of months. Starting with a goal of 80 lbs is huge, and hard to view the reward at the end. WDW being a reward is great, but have rewards that work up to it as well.

As pp's have said, it is recommended that you only use 1-2 lbs a week. December is less then 40 weeks away, and you cannot set a reasonable goal of losing the most every week. Some weeks you will only lose 1/2 a pound. I would say set a goal of 1 lb a week for 40 weeks (gets you to December) would be a healthy goal to set. Whenever you need to lose this much weight, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor first. If you want to lose weight, you really want it to be done in a healthy way and to last.

Good luck, I hope things turn around for you.

It is difficult to lose weight and I think it is even more difficult to have a loved one tell you that you have to do ____ in order for you to get a chance to do something.

I agree completely that you should speak with a doctor about the weight loss and even more about your depression.

I am overweight, but with my height I can carry more weight than someone who is 5'5". My sister is shorter than me and Pooh shaped. She lost 35 pounds this past year. It took her about 10 months and she has health problems that slow down her metabolism. Working with her doctor, therapist and trainer together helped her immensely. Could she lose more weight? Maybe, if she is going to become a magazine model. But, her doctor is content and she is HAPPY with HERSELF.

This is going to upset some folks, but I have to ask this question...If you do lose this weight, is the trip really going to happen? Sometimes people force us to do things with rewards that won't ever materialize or the goal line keeps being moved and the rules keep changing.

I have long suffered with depression. I have been on antidepressants for a little over a year. My weight did go up after I started them. Not really because of the meds, but because I was eating more. I also wasn't changing my environment that affects my mood. Now that the environment is better, I can still eat the candies, I feel better and my weight is coming off! I also read the beginning of a book that is called The Animal Kingdom Diet. I thought it was going to be about the snacks in WDW.

Hang in there. Feel free to PM if you need more info or support. But, again, go to the doctor first. Make sure you are cleared to begin any exercise program or life changing plans. (I don't do diets--way too negative)

:grouphug:

BTW, I'm willing to be your friend to keep your spirits up. Like I said, just PM.

In fact, I think everyone here would be willing to do the same. But those of in this virtual place are not the same as someone who you can actually see weekly.

Hi there. I am not sure how old you are, but I would always check in with a Doctor first. Take it from there.. Get the clear healthwise, and perhaps see a dietician?

I think a professional opinion is crucial, especially at a young age, it can set a nice tone for your future..

First off, as everyone has been saying. Please see a MD first to help you make a realistic goal and give you some advice.
.5-2 pounds is average per week to lose depending on your starting weight. It may not seem like a lot, but everything counts.
I'm sure you've heard it before, but write down everything you eat. Its crazy to see what you actually eat compared to what you think you eat.
Drink lots of water!
Remember losing weight isnt a simple fix, it takes time!
Good luck!!

I am with everyone else here on seeking medical advice and doing this the right way. I'm not sure how old you are, but I would either make a dr. appt. or have your mom make one, and then have her go with you so she can hear what is realistic.

As a mom myself, I am sure your mom wants you to be healthy, and that is probably her goal in this...I'm sure she knows how much you love Disney and that it might be a good incentive. But unless you want to lose the weight, it will be next to impossible to do.

A few things you could do in the meantime...if you have a smart phone (or you could do it on your computer too, but the phone is easiest) download the "my fitness pal" app. It's a great program where you can input your height and weight and how much you want to lose. Then you plug in what you eat each day and if you do any exercise. It will tell you how many calories you can have and keep track of it all for you. It even has a bar code scanner for packaged foods. That would be a good way to start to keep track of everything you eat and how much it is affecting your weight.

There are a bunch of threads on the DIS boards about my fitness pal so do a search there too.

You can also start to look into some exercise as well. A simple couch to 5k type program is good for beginners if you haven't been doing any exercise. Of course if you know you have any medical issues, def. ask your dr. first! But again, there are a lot of DISers on here who do this too and are very encouraging.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing. We will all be here to :cheer2: you on!!

Thanks for everyone's support. Yeah. When they tell me to do something I just want to the opposite. The way they tell me to do something or tell me not to say this or that it just made me change my view of them and everyone. I just feel stressed when they tell me (boss me) to do something. my view of the world has changed drastically over my years since I have graduated college. I just want to be my old happy self. :(.

I told my parents that i lost 10 lbs but they didn't care they just was upset how much i got myself up to. My stress is from them but i can't move out because i just feel alone... :( and i'm $$-less.

I don't know if you have a smartphone, but if you do, an app that might help you is MyFitnessPal. It's free and lets you out in your goals and helps you track calories.

But I'm going to agree with everyone. 80 lbs by November is probably neither healthy or realistic. Life isn't like the biggest loser. Telling your mom that is probably like talking to a brick wall.

Lose weight for YOU, not for your mom and not to go to Disney. If you don't meet her criteria to go, fine. It will suck not to go to Disney, but it will be a personal achievement for you to have list weight the healthy way even if it is only 40 lbs.

Good luck!

It sounds to me like you need to do some things to make you feel good, and get you out of the house more. I know that when I was stressed and depressed, I found that serving others helped me lots. I would suggest that you look for volunteer opportunities. I worked in the children's area of our local science museum once a week for a year. It really helped me feel better about myself, got me out of the house, and looked great on my résumé.

A big part of losing weight and dealing with depression is feeling better about yourself. Finding things that will take you away from stress and make you feel good about yourself are great tools to have in your life. I hope all these suggestions from everyone help light a spark and give you some momentum. Heaven knows I need some these days.
