My mom and Aunt & Uncle are meeting my DH and I in Orlando in January. I think all 3 are eligiable for a military discount- if they're still avilable. Can someone please tell me what the qualifications are and what the military deals are? And how do we get them? My dad was a retired Naval Officer and my Uncle served in the military as well- just not sure which. Everyone has military ID and Post privledges (PX , Commissary etc.) They all also happen to be FLORIDA residents- so if you know any deals there- I'd appreciate that too! Thanks !

Military discounted tickets can be found most likely at their nearest military base.....

OR.....

they can be bought at Shades of Green near the magic kingdom. here is their website http://www.shadesofgreen.org/

currently the whole "resort" is located at the contempory resort due to a major remodel of the hotel.

Shades of Green is a few $ cheaper then buying the tickets on post.
If they are retired military, they do qualify for the discounts.

So if we buy thw tickets at SofG... do we actually buy them at the Contemporary and where do we get them there?

I would follow the link that was posted, it should help answer all your questions. But, to answer your questions, you go to the Contemporary and ask at the front desk, someone there will be able to help you. :)

When I click on the link I get a blank page. ANy other way to access it?

http://www.armymwr.com/shades/

try that link.... (note: when the site opens, dont close the pop-up window.... it tells about their Tempoary stay at the Contempoary resort)

Shades of Green is a few $ cheaper then buying the tickets on post.

as long as they have a military ID then they should be fine

I have just a general question for you experienced Disney people.
Does Disney increase their prices every January?

If that is the case it might be cheaper for those military (retired) members to go to their local military base and buy the tickets now rather then wait till January for Shades of Green after the increase.

I was able to get on board with the Salute to Savings program this year but our next trip I will have to hunt the best deal.

Thanks for your help!

the last price increase BY Disney was in June 2003, the increase in Jan. was because of the Sales tax increase from 6 to 6.5%. They are somewhat whimsical about when and if they will raise their prices.

Pass prices vary from base to base. Last year, my brother-in-law and his wife accompanied us on our WDW trip. He bought passes at Eglin Air Force Base. The passes thru Paramount were actually cheaper! Be sure you to do a thorough check of all your options if you are looking for the best price.

Shades of Green attractions office is currently at the Contemporary Resort, North Garden Wing, 3rd floor, Room 7346. They can sell you discounted Disney tickets, as well as discounted tickets for most attractions in the area. There is a spreadsheet of all the prices posted on their website. You can also call for information (407) 824-1403 or toll free 888-593-2242 (although I usually have a LONG wait when using the toll free number for some reason). Military folks can buy discounted tickets for anyone in their party, even if they're not military--so they can buy your passes. We do it all the time.

That said, they may get better deals for being Florida residents. A FL resident annual pass is $299, although it is slightly discounted at the Shades of Green office as well! That may make sense for your relatives if you're staying many days or will make repeat trips. Resident tickets are only available to people with a valid FL ID or driver's license, or military ID based in FL--so good for your relatives but maybe not for you.

Each eligible person (military/govt id, active, guard, or retired) may reserve up to 3 rooms at Shades of Green, or whereever they're putting their guests. (So I can get 3 rooms, DH can get 3 rooms, etc.) In January the new SofG won't be open so they were putting folks at the Comtemporary and a few other spots. If they have no Shades of Green rates left, ask for overflow rates at other resorts. These may or may not be better than FL resident rates, so be sure to check both! In my experience, FL resident has always been the best rate, except for the Shades of Green at the Contemporary during construction. (In December we have 9 rooms...the first 6 at FL resident (DH and I were allowed 3 each) and 3 at the Shades of Green overflow rate...all at AKL. FL resident was $109 +tax, SofG overflow was $124 +tax).

HTH! Let me know if you have any other military/Disney ?'s!
Katie
